Brightline Launches Loyalty Program with One Million-Point Giveaway

by Porthole Cruise and Travel April 4, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Brightline, the fast passenger-rail service connecting the key cruise-port cities of Miami (PortMiami), Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades), and Orlando (Port Canaveral) on Thursday announced the launch of its first-ever loyalty program, Brightline Rewards.

Members can earn points for purchases made through the Brightline app or GoBrightline.com, and redeem them on purchases including train fares, upgrades, parking, baggage, and more. They also have early access to sales, announcements, and events, as well as member-only exclusives.

“Our guests have always been at the center of everything we do, and Brightline Rewards is the next step in recognizing their loyalty,” says Patrick Goddard, CEO of Brightline Florida, announcing that the program aims to reward guests for every trip they take and every dollar they spend. “It’s not just about earning points,” he says. “It’s about deepening the connection with our guests as we continue to grow.”

Enrollment in Brightline Rewards is free and available to all guests via their Brightline account. The new program is designed to attract first-time riders as well as to reward repeat guests, who already make up a significant portion of Brightline’s business — 66 percent and 72 percent of ridership, respectively.

To celebrate the launch, Brightline held an event at its MIamiCentral station and unveiled a One Million Point Giveaway & Sweepstakes. Enroll in Brightline Rewards by May 30 and you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to win from hundreds of prize packages, ranging from 500 to 100,000 points.

A second promotion, the Brightline Rewards Traveling Wall, will visit each Brightline station by April 14. Guests will be invited to select envelopes containing prizes such as bonus points or food and beverage discounts.

As an added incentive, the company is offering an introductory triple-point bonus for all qualifying purchases made for rides booked and taken through June 3. Riders will earn 15 points per dollar, compared to the standard five.

Friday’s launch event featured a Travel in the Sunshine State panel of industry insiders moderated by former NBC News and Today Show correspondent Kerry Sanders. The panel included representatives from major Florida tourism bureaus including Greater Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and the Palm Beaches, who discussed seasonal travel trends and offered tips for travelers.

MSC World America and LEGO® Unite to Set a New World Record

by Julie Bouchner April 2, 2025
written by Julie Bouchner

MSC Cruises has set a new record for the longest line of LEGO® ships aboard its flagship, MSC World America, during its journey from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, to Miami, Florida. This milestone precedes the ship’s naming ceremony at the MSC Miami Cruise Terminal on April 9, with its inaugural Caribbean season starting on April 12.

Steve Leatham, MSC Cruises VP Entertainment, said: “MSC Cruises’ entertainment team is committed to expanding onboard experiences and taking them to the next level. We partner with the world’s top entertainment brands to create something truly magical. It’s fantastic to see the collaboration between GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ and LEGO® on MSC World America come to life in this way.”

More About the Event

Over 1,000 crew members, led by Captain Dino Sagani, constructed a 291-foot display of LEGO® ships along Deck 6’s World Galleria. Each ship took approximately five minutes to build, totaling around 116 hours of effort. Remarkably, the entire assembly of the LEGO® ships was completed in under two hours, with a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ adjudicator overseeing the process to ensure compliance with guidelines. This achievement highlights MSC Cruises’ entertainment partnership with LEGO® and GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™, requiring significant teamwork among the crew.

In the past year, MSC Cruises announced plans to implement a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ entertainment program fleetwide. Since the program’s introduction in 2023, guests have had opportunities to break official records, such as the fastest to pull 328 feet of rope and the quickest to complete 20 chair rotations in under 21 seconds. To date, the program has enabled MSC Cruises’ guests and crew to set 40 records, with plans to expand this initiative to 16 ships by May and to the entire fleet by the end of the year.

This new record will be added to the 13,000 longest line records in the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ database and featured in the 2026 edition of the Guinness World Records book. As recognition for their participation, each crew member involved in the attempt received a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ certificate and a LEGO® ship as a keepsake.

MSC Cruises’ Family-Friendly Offerings

MSC Cruises, a family-owned company, is known for its family-friendly offerings and longstanding partnership with LEGO®. The cruise line features a variety of LEGO® programs across its fleet. Matteo Mancini, Family Entertainment Development Director at MSC Cruises, added, “On MSC World America, we will offer three weekly, multigenerational and unmissable entertainment experiences with GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ and will have the first LEGO® Parade and LEGO® Game Show in the cruise industry. Our teams have come together to create a fun, immersive, and unforgettable family entertainment program, ensuring that there is something for guests of all ages to enjoy.”

In partnership with the LEGO® Group, MSC World America will introduce several exciting features, including the first LEGO® themed parade at sea, a LEGO® Family Game Show, and a LEGO® Family Zone builder area for guests of all ages.

Tropic Air Rescue: Elevating Emergency Medical Services in the Bahamas

by Porthole Cruise and Travel April 2, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

The Bahamas is known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant culture. However, the region has a significant gap in effective emergency medical services. To address this need, Tropic Air, a trusted name in aviation since 1993, established Tropic Air Rescue.

This specialized service is a Concierge Membership-based critical care air ambulance program that operates Sikorsky S-76 helicopters and employs certified critical care paramedics and nurses. Tropic Air Rescue focuses on medical emergencies, removing service delivery obstacles and enhancing patient outcomes while ensuring quality care is accessible when needed.

History of Tropic Air

Tropic Air has operated since 1993, when Tropic Air Charters Inc. was established as a leading fixed-wing air carrier in Florida and the Bahamas. In 2021, Anthony Marinello, a former New Jersey State Trooper and experienced helicopter pilot, recognized the region’s lack of emergency evacuation services. After 28 years of service, including 21 years as a helicopter pilot, he purchased Tropic Air Charters to improve medical response capabilities across the islands.

“Prior to the establishment of this service in 2024, there was no dedicated helicopter ambulance program in the Bahamas, which comprises approximately 700 islands,” said Marinello. “We have the capability to access any location and provide assistance to anyone, without exception. While many cruise lines operate private islands for their guests, they lacked helicopter services—apart from those provided by the U.S. Coast Guard. Recognizing a significant gap in the system, I am committed to filling this void and enhancing emergency response capabilities across the region.”

Each flight performed by 2 experienced pilots and 2 certified critical care nurses/paramedics | Photo: Tropic Air

The Launch of Tropic Air Rescue

In 2023, Tropic Air Rescue was officially launched, becoming the first FAA Certified Helicopter Air Ambulance focused explicitly on the Bahamas. The service is designed to provide critical medical care through a membership program covering Florida and the Bahamas.

With the acquisition of two Sikorsky S-76B helicopters, known for their reliability and medical capabilities, Tropic Air Rescue is equipped to respond to emergencies effectively.

What Services Do They Offer?

Tropic Air Rescue focuses on emergency medical transport and patient care.

Emergency Air Evacuation: In a medical emergency, members can promptly arrange helicopter transport to the nearest medical facility.

Critical Care Transport: Patients receive care from certified critical care paramedics and nurses during the flight, ensuring continuous monitoring and support.

Coverage Area: The service covers Florida and the Bahamas, offering peace of mind to residents and visitors.

Improved Patient Outcomes: Tropic Air Rescue prioritizes getting patients the care they need quickly by reducing barriers to timely emergency response.

Safety and Care at the Core

Safety is a priority at Tropic Air Rescue. The entire team is committed to planning and preparation for every mission, ensuring the safety of both patients and crew members.

All staff members take pride in their work and strive for excellence. This commitment fosters a culture of strong leadership within the organization, improving the responsiveness and effectiveness of their services.

Mr. Marinello finalized by saying, “We maintain a constant state of readiness, 24/7, dedicated to providing exceptional service. This level of operational capability entails considerable investment in aircraft and personnel. Our approach is unprecedented, and I have determined that a membership model best supports our mission. As a private entity, we are not a government agency. When assistance is needed, we respond immediately and follow up with billing afterward. Your safety and well-being are our top priorities.'”

If you’re interested in learning more or considering a membership, Tropic Air Rescue invites you to explore how it can be an essential part of your emergency medical preparedness.

Windstar Cruises Announces 2nd Solar Eclipse Cruise

by Julie Bouchner April 1, 2025
written by Julie Bouchner

Windstar Cruises is providing another chance to view a total solar eclipse from a yacht at sea during sunset, following the success of a previous eclipse cruise. They have announced a second eclipse cruise for August 2026 aboard Wind Spirit, which accommodates 148 guests.

Setting sail from Rome on August 6, 2026, the seven-night Mediterranean Sunset Eclipse cruise includes stops in Bastia and Calvi, Corsica; Alghero, Sardinia; and Mahon, Menorca, along with two days at sea. On August 12, the yacht will position itself north of Mallorca for an unobstructed view of the eclipse, weather permitting. Guests will enjoy an onboard watch party and receive eclipse glasses. The cruise concludes in Barcelona on August 13.

The path of totality for the 2026 solar eclipse will cross Spain and Portugal, lasting two minutes and 18 seconds. At 8:30 PM, the sun will be just above the horizon in Mallorca when the moon fully covers it, making a ship at sea the perfect vantage point.

“Eclipse cruises are popular because ships at sea can position for clear views,” said Jess Peterson, Windstar’s director of destination experiences and itinerary planning. “Our first cruise to coincide with the 2026 eclipse in Iceland sold out quickly. We then looked at our deployment plans to see what other ships we had nearby the path of totality and the Wind Spirit made sense.”

RELATED: Sea Island & The Broadmoor Launch Honeymoon with Windstar Cruises

Before the eclipse, guests aboard Wind Spirit will visit four ports across three Mediterranean islands:

  • Bastia, Corsica: This lively town features historical neighborhoods, 18th-century buildings, a central market, a citadel, and Jardin Romieu gardens.
  • Calvi, Corsica: A popular vacation spot, Calvi is surrounded by fortified walls and overlooks the bay. Guests can enjoy the beach, tour local vineyards, explore the countryside, and visit historic streets, including the home of Christopher Columbus.
  • Alghero, Sardinia: Known as “little Barcelona,” this small-ship exclusive destination has an old town with ancient walls, shops, and restaurants. Scenic beaches and Neptune’s Grotto, a sea cave, are highlights.
  • Mahon, Menorca: Famous for one of the longest natural harbors in the world, Mahon features white sand beaches and opportunities to explore historic churches, palaces, archaeological sites from the Talayotic culture, and Sant Patrici Farm, known for its local cheese.

Windstar Cruises is celebrating 40 years of yacht-style cruising and is expanding its fleet with the all-suite Star Seeker, a 224-guest yacht set to launch in December 2025. It will be followed by the sister ship Star Explorer in December 2026. These vessels will join the Star Class fleet, which includes five upscale yachts and three Wind Class sailing yachts, accommodating between 148 and 342 guests. Star Seeker will be christened in Miami on January 15, 2026.

Aliens on the Great Lakes? Ancaster Cruise Lines Unveils 2025 Conspiracy-Themed Itineraries

by Porthole Cruise and Travel April 1, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

A new cruise brand, Ancaster Cruise Lines, has announced a lineup of shore excursions linking historic landmarks across the Great Lakes region to decades of government secrecy, alien encounters, and hidden technology suppressed by the military-industrial complex.

“Through our extensive network of contacts, we’ve curated excursions that expose the heart of this region’s suppressed history,” said Ian Carbadder, Ancaster Cruise Lines’ chairman and former military intelligence analyst. “From historic sites to incredible eyewitness experiences, our Great Lakes cruises should have something for every seeker of truth.”

Excursion Highlights: Alien Tech and Government Cover-ups

    • Cleveland – Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: Artifacts from The Beatles, David Bowie, and Prince are displayed, artists who allegedly received otherworldly inspiration and may have been silenced for revealing too much. Fortean researchers will lead discussions on how the CIA, through the MK-ULTRA program, used rock music to implant subliminal messages.
    • Detroit – The Henry Ford Experience: Officially billed as a museum tour, this visit will shine a light on suppressed Tesla technologies and their connection to the Majestic-12 intelligence group. The exhibit includes the infamous “Monarch Greyhound”— a bus which some claim was an early test site for Project Blue Beam’s holographic technology. The museum’s collection of presidential limousines is also of interest, given theories that several U.S. leaders were aware of — or perhaps replaced by — human-alien hybrids.

    • Sault Ste. Marie – The Soo Locks Mystery: Officially a historic engineering marvel, the Soo Locks are believed by some to be a gateway for submerged alien craft traveling beneath the Great Lakes. The tour will visit the Museum Ship Valley Camp, where strange metallic debris, believed to be from the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, has been stored away from public view. The ship’s demise is widely suspected to have involved an encounter with unidentified submerged objects (USOs), a theory investigated by researchers Jay Gourley, Greg Warwick, and Vic Kristol.
    • Mackinac Island – Carriage Ride to the Unknown: Why are automobiles banned on Mackinac Island? Some say it’s for “historical charm,” but insiders suggest the ban was enacted to prevent detection of electromagnetic disturbances caused by an underground alien base. A horse-drawn carriage ride through the island will take guests past locations where multiple abductees have reported missing time incidents, as well as historic buildings, like the Grand Hotel, said to be linked by secret tunnels to a submerged UFO facility in Lake Huron. Bottles of fluoridated and ionized water for neurological protection will be available upon request.
    • Green Bay – Lambeau Field’s Underground Bunkers: Sports fans think of this as the home of the Packers, but researchers suggest it was built over an ancient network of tunnels later used by secretive government agencies to house weather-affecting technologies. A behind-the-scenes tour will take passengers through the Player’s Tunnel. Guests will visit the Packers Hall of Fame, which contains artifacts allegedly linked to an MK-ULTRA subproject aimed at manipulating mass consciousness through televised sports.

    • Milwaukee – Harley-Davidson and the Occult Connection: The Harley-Davidson Museum claims to be about motorcycles, but insiders know it houses artifacts linked to early 20th-century government experiments with advanced propulsion. The infamous “Serial Number One” bike was reportedly fitted with classified anti-gravity technology by scientists from Jack Parsons’ “Babalon Working” laboratory before being hidden in plain sight.

Onboard Enrichment: Military Whistleblowers Speak Out

Replacing the standard historical enrichment program, Ancaster Cruise Lines will feature daily onboard briefings from Fortean researchers and former military intelligence officers. Special guests will include retired operatives who claim to have worked with Richard Doty in psychological warfare programs, as well as researchers analyzing the impact of disinformation campaigns on UFO disclosure.

New Ship Initiations

A NOAA weather map from Nov. 10, 1975 showing the Great Lakes at the time of the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Public DomainThe line’s first ship, Ancaster Quesent, will be christened in Tobermory on May 3, an event timed to coincide with a seasonal surge in anomalous energy in the area. The ship will then embark on a 10-day voyage to Chicago, passing directly over sites where pilots have reported UFO sightings and researchers have isolated tell-tale signs of weather-control technology. Ancaster Quabal will be christened at Port Burwell on June 11 before setting sail across all five Great Lakes — passing through the reputed “Great Lakes Triangle” three times. Ships lost in the area under strange circumstances number at least 100, including Eliza Quinlan (1883), Bavaria (1889), George A. Marsh (1917), and Star of Suez (1964). When each ship makes first contact with Chicago, festivities will include a Grant Park picnic brunch, where attendees and guest lecturers will debate whether certain public figures have been replaced by shape-shifting entities.

Ancaster Cruise Lines’ all-inclusive packages feature accommodations with “unobstructed water views” (a possible code for surveillance-free rooms), gourmet cuisine, unlimited beverages, and high-speed Wi-Fi with restricted access to certain government websites. Both Quesent and Quabal will feature onboard expedition-style “marinas” with plexiglass-bottomed inflatables for open-water excursions over famous shipwrecks and other underwater mysteries.

Passengers booking select Tobermory-Chicago or Chicago-Tobermory departures before April 30 will receive a $523 shore excursion credit — rumored to be part of a hush fund used to keep certain revelations quiet.

Those interested in joining the search for the truth are encouraged to book before Ancaster Cruise Lines is forced to scrub these excursions from its itinerary under pressure from unnamed agencies.

A PERFECT PAIRING: Artistry II and Bordeaux

by Judi Cuervo April 1, 2025
written by Judi Cuervo

I’m not certain when I first realized that Avalon Waterways’ Bonjour Bordeaux: Chateaux, Wineries, and Charming Villages genuinely does have something for everyone. It could have been as I was boogying enthusiastically to David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” at the Panorama Lounge … or maybe while I cycled through the picturesque vineyards of Saint-Emilion. Perhaps it was as I explored the curves and cuvées of Bordeaux’s iconic wine museum, La Cité du Vin … or strolled the colorful food market of Libourne, sampling local strawberries, cheese and chocolate along the way.

Maybe it was simply while sailing past the lush scenery along the Garonne River, sipping an exquisite French rosé on the Sky Deck of the lovely 128-guest Artistry II … or enjoying the best filet mignon I’ve ever had in the ship’s open-seating dining room.

I was one of the first to sample this latest addition to Avalon Waterways’ award-winning river-cruise program, a program which includes 79 itineraries across 13 rivers in 23 countries, and came away dazzled. This is no sleepy, laid-back river cruise — unless, of course, you’d prefer it that way. And there lies the beauty of Avalon Waterways: An alternative approach to river cruising that begins aboard and continues ashore with innovative excursions and immersive experiences designed to appeal to a wide variety of tastes.

The Ship: A Work of Artistry

At first glance, the 361-foot, four-deck Artistry II doesn’t seem so very different from other river ships. Board her and you’ll discover the magic: innovations and simple-though-ingenious touches that, I suspect, have made more than a few Avalon Waterways competitors slap their heads and wonder why they never thought of them.

An exciting new cocktail menu and, of course, wine! Photo: Avalon Waterways

Artistry II’s public spaces reflect a tasteful color scheme of neutrals punctuated by splashes of color and homey touches like table and floor lamps, throw pillows, and floral arrangements. The Panorama Lounge, the social heart of the ship, features a full bar with a stylish new cocktail menu and superb French wines (drinks are complimentary at lunch, dinner, and happy hour) while the Club Lounge is a restful spot with self-serve coffees, teas, hot chocolate, and snacks—and don’t miss that remarkable water station that dispenses a variety of flavored and vitamin-infused waters. On pleasant days, guests head to the open-air Sky Deck with its ample supply of sun loungers, covered seating, Sky Grill, and deck-game area to mingle or simply soak in the ever-changing vistas.

Suite Surprises

Panorama Suite | Photo: Avalon Waterways

Eighty percent of Artistry II’s accommodations are Panorama Suites which, at 200 square feet, are 30 percent larger than those found on the average riverboat. Avalon Waterways has accomplished this impressive feat (aboard all of their river ships) through the creation of the “open-air balcony,” a sliding floor-to-ceiling window that is the widest window opening in river cruising! The fully seven-foot opening not only creates the feel of a balcony without robbing the suite of precious living space but also allows Artistry II to position the bed to face the view outside—the only river cruise line with suites large enough to allow this. Picky about your bed’s firmness? Artistry II offers very soft, soft, firm, or very firm mattress pads that not only do the trick, but do so without that annoying seam you often find when two single beds are joined to create a double. And my favorite suite surprise of all just might be Artistry II’s bath linen: Two different colors to eliminate that “whose towel is whose?” moment entirely.

Cruisers Can be Choosers

It’s not surprising that Avalon Waterways guests are an average of 10 years younger, at 60 years old, than those sailing other river lines. In 2017, the company added a series of Active experiences to its shore-excursion program and Artistry II continues the popular trend. Experiences might include a multi-mile stroll through the vineyards and chateaux of the Medoc region or a tour to Bordeaux’s most iconic landmarks atop one of the ship’s e-bikes. (The line’s commitment to cycling includes a fleet of e-bikes in a variety of sizes for shorter or taller guests.)

Those looking to experience an area’s culture and traditions might prefer a Discovery excursion while those wishing to visit an area’s best-known sites might stick to a Classic tour, likely aboard one of Avalon Waterways’ motorcoaches — spankin’ new vehicles that, during my sailing, still had that “new-car” smell.

Best of all, aboard Avalon Waterways’ Bonjour Bordeaux cruise, guests may choose from a staggering 20 complimentary excursions, some including a lavish lunch, oyster, or wine tasting. An additional five optional experiences, priced individually, include Chef for a Day Baking Class and A Visit to a Cognac House and Tasting. And since Avalon Waterways is geared exclusively to English-speaking guests, tour-guide communication is outstanding, with many guides being “locals” who originally hail from an English-speaking country but who have resided in Bordeaux for decades.

Cheers! | Photo: Judi Cuervo

With Bonjour Bordeaux: Chateaux, Wineries, and Charming Villages, Avalon Waterways has created an elevated river-cruise experience that is casual, comfortable, and, most important, filled with options that make it perfect for anyone.

I’ll drink to that!

A free two-night Paris extension is available on select Bonjour Bordeaux sailings.

The 8-day itinerary is also available in two- and three-week options: the 15-day French Masterpiece with Paris, Normandy, and Bordeaux; the 22-day France Uncorked sailing along the Rhone, the Seine, and Bordeaux or another 22-day itinerary, France Uncorked, which sails the Rhine, Seine, Garonne, and Dordogne Rivers.

MSC Cruises Celebrates Milestones for Three World Class Ships in Saint-Nazaire

by Julie Bouchner March 27, 2025
written by Julie Bouchner

On Thursday in Saint-Nazaire, France, MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique marked significant milestones for three World Class ships: the delivery of MSC World America, a coin ceremony for MSC World Asia, and the steel cutting for MSC World Atlantic.

Attendees included Captain Gianluigi Aponte, Founder and Group Chairman of MSC; Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Group’s Cruise Division; Laurent Castaing, General Manager of Chantiers de l’Atlantique; and Marc Ferracci, the French Minister for Industry and Energy, along with MSC Cruises’ new build team and shipyard workers involved in the project over the past 30 months.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman, Cruise Division, MSC Group, said: “Today is a proud moment for all of us at MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique as we mark these major milestones in the development of our fleet. Our new flagship is a testament to our long-standing, innovative partnership spanning over 20 years, resulting in five groundbreaking prototypes and 19 ships. Together, we continue to push boundaries, combining cutting-edge design, the latest technologies, and a richness of experiences to set new standards in cruising and always striving to further improve the environmental performance of each ship. We look forward to raising the bar even higher with the upcoming MSC World Asia and MSC World Atlantic.”

MSC World America is the 23rd ship in the cruise line’s fleet and will be officially named on April 9, 2025, at the MSC Miami Cruise Terminal. The ship features new venues and concepts designed for the North American market, blending European style with American comfort.

MSC World Asia Coin Ceremony

  • MSC World Asia held its coin ceremony, where commemorative coins were placed inside the ship’s hull for blessings and good fortune during construction.
  • Godmothers Marialuisa Iaccarino, VP of Shore Excursions for MSC Cruises, and Flavie Biondo, Chargé d’affaires for Chantiers de l’Atlantique, performed the honors.

MSC World Atlantic Steel Cutting Ceremony

MSC Cruises celebrated the steel cutting for its fourth World Class ship, newly named MSC World Atlantic, which will begin service in 2027. This ship will operate cruises from Port Canaveral to the Caribbean, starting in winter 2027-28.

Laurent Castaing, General Manager, Chantiers de l’Atlantique, added: “It is with great emotion that we are marking today not one, but three MSC World Class ships. Continuous improvement of the onboard experience, ever more optimized energy performance—what a journey MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique teams have accomplished so far. To date, MSC World America has the best energy efficiency design index (EEDI) from the IMO, and therefore the lowest carbon footprint of the entire cruise industry… and we will go even further with the two sisterships we are celebrating today!”

The World Class platform set a new standard in cruising with MSC World Europa in 2022 and continues to evolve through design, technology, and guest experience innovations. These ships are named after continents and oceans, reflecting MSC Cruises’ global presence.

Thanks to the privileged relationship with world leader MSC Cruises and with the support of the State, the Saint Nazaire shipyards continue to make France and Europe shine across the seas. I pay tribute to the commitment and expertise of the men and women who work in this industrial sector essential for our sovereignty.”
