Steve Leland’s Suite Pleasures of Anantara

by Steve Leland January 6, 2026
written by Steve Leland

From the moment you arrive, Bangkok captivates you with a rhythm where frenetic energy meets Asian harmony. Sleek skyscrapers rise beside gold-tipped temples, while festive street life weaves everything together in a living tapestry of color, culture, and motion.

I’ve previously experienced the city on several occasions, each time exploring its storied markets and animated streets. This time, however, I surrendered to personalized indulgence with consecutive stays at two properties from the Anantara collection of ultra-luxe hotels and resorts.

For years, I had admired the brand from afar. As fortune would have it, a rare opening at both Anantara Riverside Bangkok and Anantara Siam Bangkok aligned perfectly with our brief five-day stay in Thailand.

For those unfamiliar with the Anantara brand, its name comes from the Sanskrit, meaning “without end,” an ethos that extends far beyond a beautifully appointed room in which to rest your head. Each property is thoughtfully designed to deliver authentic cultural experiences that reflect the spirit of its destination. Even before arrival, guests are invited to share their personal interests, allowing the team to curate and arrange cultural, culinary, and active experiences tailored to individual preferences.

Down By The Riverside

For our first three nights, we were embraced in the serenity of Anantara Riverside Bangkok. The resort occupies an enviable spot. Nestled amid lush tropical gardens along the gently lapping banks of the Chao Phraya River, it offers a sublime balance between calming retreat and adventurous exploration.

Having flown in from a 10-day expedition in Indonesia, we decided to spend our first day surrendering to the resort’s secluded pool, swaddled in tropical foliage, surrounded by floating lotus flowers under sun filtered by swaying palms. Our agenda was to perfect the art of doing absolutely nothing. Mission accomplished!

RELATED: WHAT ARE THEY SNIFFING IN THAILAND?

With our mental reset complete, what could be more appropriate than a traditional Thai massage from the Anantara Spa. A short walk through a bamboo lined pathway led to this pleasure-infused sanctuary. Once I reclined, skilled hands worked in a slow, methodical rhythm, leaving my travel-worn muscles relaxed and ready for whatever would come next.

Taking the suggestion of the property’s very helpful concierge, we embarked on an easygoing river journey with the resort’s shuttle boat, delving head first into the heart of the city’s Chinatown.

Although Bangkok’s street-food scene holds undeniable appeal, nothing compares to the exquisite dining experience at Seen, the resort’s signature restaurant. Showcasing South American flavors crafted into plates of pure passion, it surpasses all expectations. The transition from culinary delight to late-night allure is seamless with a nightcap at Sin, the resort’s chic rooftop bar with views of the city’s spellbinding lights.

After a deeply satisfying night cocooned in a snuggly duvet, convincing the body to rise was a challenge. Still, the promise of fresh discoveries won out as we once again hopped aboard the complimentary river shuttle, gliding our way to Icon Siam Mall. Shopping rarely tops my travel wish list, but this destination truly earns its must-see status with over 7,000 shops and 100 restaurants.

Lunchtime arrived surprisingly quickly, and the midday meal at the resort’s Benihana proved to be an experience in itself, delivering far more than anything the brand back home has ever offered.

For a change of pace, the guidance of the concierge was invaluable; he arranged for a private driver to take us outside the city to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ayutthaya, a ruined city incorporating over a dozen magnificent temples. As one of Thailand’s true cultural gems, it provides a glimpse into the Siamese kingdom’s ancient history.

Siamese Luxury

After three dreamy days at the Riverside resort, we traded tranquility for urban elegance at Anantara Siam Bangkok. This ultra-luxe sanctuary captures the heartbeat of the modern city with traditional Thai charm. Outside, the pulse of Bangkok hums; inside a hushed elegance prevails. The lobby is more than a grand entrance. It’s a welcoming, convivial space, perfect for lingering over a coffee or indulging in a refined afternoon tea ceremony.

Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel Recreation facility | Photo: Anantara

The courtyard is the hotel’s undeniable showstopper, a lush, green space that brings the outdoors inside. Come morning, a sumptuous breakfast unfolds with casual charm beside koi ponds and waterfalls spilling into a gurgling stream. By evening, the mood shifts as lights twinkle, glasses clink, and the courtyard slips into the chic AQUA bar.

Three distinct doorways each lead to its own sublime culinary experience:

  • Free of guilt yet rich in flavor, Guilty artfully blends Indian, Mexican, and Mediterranean influences.
  • Step into the timeless ambience of Madison, where the enduring legacy of the iconic New York steakhouse is brought to life in the heart of Bangkok.
  • Completing this trifecta of gastronomic experiences, The Spice Market serves regional Thai favorites, thoughtfully reimagined with contemporary flair.

Yet despite these exceptional dining options, nothing surprised this wanna-be Italian more than lunch at Biscotti, the hotel’s Italian restaurant. Quite simply put, a standout experience.

Two nights barely scratch the surface here.

My initial Anantara experience stands apart, distinctly anti-chain, anti-same, and crafted for the well-traveled who appreciate originality and thoughtful luxury.

A Relaxing Port Stop at Resorts World Bimini Beach

by Julie Bouchner January 5, 2026
written by Julie Bouchner

Cruise days in port often come with a familiar challenge. You only have a limited amount of time at the destination, so it is important to choose an excursion that is easy to get to and allows you to actually enjoy the day without rushing. For my husband’s 30th birthday, we found the perfect solution at Resorts World Bimini Beach.

We were sailing with Celebrity Cruises alongside a few other couples and wanted a way to celebrate without overcomplicating the day. Resorts World Bimini Beach stood out as a destination that made logistics simple and the experience enjoyable.

Right after arriving in Bimini, we hopped on a complimentary trolley from the port that took us directly to the resort. Upon arrival, staff greeted us and escorted us straight to our cabana, setting the tone for a smooth and relaxed day.

The cabana served as our base. Located near the beach and pool, it offered a comfortable place to settle in between swims, meals, and drinks. We ordered food and beverages throughout the day and never felt rushed.

What made this experience work particularly well as a port stop was how effortless it felt. Transportation was easy, the setup was ready when we arrived, and the layout of the day allowed us to enjoy ourselves without watching the clock. Instead of feeling like a stop squeezed between schedules, it felt like a complete experience. The DJ and music added a fun energy to the day while still keeping the atmosphere easygoing.

Before we knew it, it was time to close out our tab and head back to the ship.

For cruise travelers looking for a simple and enjoyable port day, Resorts World Bimini Beach offers an easy option. Everything from arrival to cabana was straightforward, allowing us to focus on enjoying the day.

I am often asked how to make a port day stand out. This visit to Resorts World Bimini Beach is now one I reference often. It offered an easy arrival, a comfortable place to settle in, and a day that was well worth stepping off the ship for.

Jill Whelan Christens Star Princess Tournament of Roses Float

by Julie Bouchner December 24, 2025
written by Julie Bouchner

Princess Cruises held a symbolic christening of its Rose Parade® float at Artistic Entertainment Services’ Pasadena facility, where the float was built. The ceremony followed maritime tradition with the breaking of a bottle of Pantalones Organic Tequila and marked the float’s introduction ahead of its New Year’s Day debut in the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Princess Cruises Celebration Ambassador Jill Whelan led the christening, saying, “I name this float Star Princess. May God bless her and all who cruise down Colorado Boulevard on her.”

The float is inspired by Princess Cruises’ newest ship, Star Princess, and its Sphere Class design. Featured elements include The Dome, a relaxation and entertainment space at the top of the ship, and the sphere-shaped Piazza at the ship’s center. The overall design reflects the experience of sailing Alaska’s Inside Passage and highlights the ship’s inaugural Alaska season in 2026.

RELATED: Princess Cruises’ Discovery Princess Named the “Coolest Way To See Alaska”

As the leading cruise line in Alaska, Princess brings the destination to the parade with scenes of glaciers, bald eagles, humpback whales, and bears fishing for salmon. The float is constructed using thousands of fresh flowers, seeds, bark, and other natural materials to reflect Alaska’s landscapes and wildlife.

Held annually in Pasadena, the Rose Parade draws about 800,000 spectators along its 5½-mile route and more than 28 million U.S. television viewers, with millions more watching worldwide. The parade features floral floats, marching bands, and equestrian units.

Designed and built by Artistic Entertainment Services, the Princess Cruises float measures approximately 55 feet long and 21 feet high and will feature more than 300,000 flowers and natural elements.

Steve Leland’s All Thai-ed Up with A Chef’s Tour

by Steve Leland December 18, 2025
written by Steve Leland

With Bangkok being the food paradise that it is, I had fully intended to eat my way through its streets. From humble food stalls to Michelin-starred dining, the choices are both endless and delightfully overwhelming — presenting a delicious dilemma: Where to begin? Past experience, however, guided me back to the experts at A Chef’s Tour, a company that has consistently satisfied my appetite for authenticity and genuine cultural immersion in the local dining scene.

Their Bangkok Backstreets journey is a deep dive into the origins of local cuisine, where bold, vibrant flavors burst from every plate. This procession of street-food classics goes far beyond the expected pad Thai and curries, revealing dishes and stories that define the soul of the city after dark. Meeting up with our guide, Pang, in the heart of Bangkok’s Chinatown, she sketches out a loose itinerary of the city’s lesser-known food spots, places favored by locals rather than tourists.

BRING ON THE HEAT

Our first stop sets the tone: watching a humble sidewalk stall worker fry chive pancakes in a single wok, to later be paired with a simmering plate of stewed pork leg, glossy with sauce and served on a vinyl-covered table. Around us, the steady chatter of Bangkok locals provides the soundtrack that eases us into the night’s adventure.

Shifting toward more familiar flavors, we duck into a bustling side street where pork satay sizzles over hot coals. Each skewer is dipped into a rich, irresistible peanut sauce, perfectly complemented by a comforting bowl of Thai-style sukiyaki soup.

Slipping down a shadowed alleyway, Pang guides us to a hidden gem: a tiny, tucked-away café where shrimp dumplings reign supreme. The modest walls are adorned with photos of Thai royalty and celebrities who quietly frequent this culinary secret.

You might expect the ubiquitous pad Thai to make an appearance on a food tour, but why settle for the familiar on a journey of discovery? With a clever twist, we do make a stop at a family-run hole-in-the-wall where we savor green curry chicken served over fermented rice noodles, a flavor far removed from the ordinary.

The bustling streets are crowded with mobile kiosks offering all manner of mysterious dishes, but thanks to Pang, we avoid leaving our taste buds to luck. She leads us to a streetside table where we dive into a steaming bowl of crispy fried pork belly, tender and golden, nestled in a rich, flavorful broth.

Every culinary parade deserves a brief intermission, so we pause at an ice cream shop to refresh. Forget pistachio, vanilla, or chocolate; we’re here to discover the unexpected. A scoop of black soy-sauce ice cream surprisingly evokes the rich, sweet notes of salted caramel, a daring twist.

Far from over, it’s about time for main course action. Winding up a narrow staircase, we’re seated and immediately served a plate of gigantic prawns. Peeling into these marine crustaceans is only the beginning. Turning up the heat is a steaming hotpot of tom yum seafood soup packing the punch of chilies and lemon grass along with a side of morning-glory greens.

Just when your stomach signals “no vacancy,” another dessert is only a few steps away. Freshly fried Thai-style donuts are drizzled with a plant-based sweet paste and served alongside mango sticky rice. It’s the perfect moment to wave the gastronomic surrender flag. As if it were a national pastime, the streets are packed with locals and tourists, all indulging in everything imaginable.

PALATE CLEANSER

This marks our third experience with A Chef’s Tour, and it’s absolutely everything we’ve come to expect from the organization.

A Chef’s Tour offers food experiences in other major Asian cities — Chiang Mai, Hanoi, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Delhi, Mumbai, Yangon, Phuket, Penang, and Bali — plus Cairo and Marrakech in Africa and Bogota in Latin America, with plans to further expand globally.

A World of Wow: MSC Cruises Adds Ports to 2028 Global Adventure

by Porthole Cruise and Travel December 18, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

MSC Cruises has opened sales for its 2028 World Cruise, a 115-night voyage designed to tempt devoted cruise fans with a globe-spanning itinerary and a newly refurbished ship packed with upgraded amenities.

The sailing will take place aboard MSC Magnifica, which recently emerged from a major refit that added the exclusive MSC Yacht Club, the line’s ship-within-a-ship luxury concept. The upgrade brings enhanced suites, private dining, dedicated lounge and pool areas, and personalized service for guests seeking a more elevated experience on a long-haul voyage.

Departing from the Mediterranean in early January 2028, the itinerary spans multiple regions, carrying passengers through the Caribbean, the Pacific, Australasia, Asia, and the Arabian Peninsula before returning to Europe. The cruise also includes a full transit of the Panama Canal.

RELATED: MSC Cruises Opens Bookings for MSC World Atlantic

MSC said the 2028 sailing introduces seven new destinations to its world cruise portfolio. In the Pacific, the ship will call at Nuku’alofa, Tonga, offering access to Polynesian culture, beaches, and island traditions. Along South America’s coast, Manta, Ecuador adds a stop tied to maritime heritage and seafood traditions, with excursions to Montecristi, the birthplace of Panama hats.

Further south, Arica, Chile becomes the northernmost Chilean port on the itinerary, set amid desert landscapes near archaeological sites linked to ancient Andean civilizations. Callao, Peru, the historic port of Lima, offers access to the capital’s architecture and internationally recognized culinary scene.

New Southeast Asia ports include Chan May, Vietnam, a gateway to the former imperial city of Hue and the Hai Van Pass, and Sihanoukville, Cambodia, which serves as a coastal access point for excursions to cultural landmarks, including Angkor Wat. In the Caribbean, Grand Turk Island in the Turks and Caicos adds snorkeling and coral reef-diving opportunities.

The itinerary retains several fan-favorite destinations, including Hanga Roa on Easter Island, home to the UNESCO-listed moai statues, and Puerto Limón, Costa Rica, a jumping-off point for rainforest excursions and the Tortuguero Canals.

Guests can join the voyage from four Mediterranean embarkation ports: Civitavecchia, Italy, on Jan. 4; Genoa, Italy, on Jan. 5; Marseille, France, on Jan. 6; or Barcelona, Spain, on Jan. 7.

The cruise fare includes 15 shore excursions, a beverage package covering house wine and beer during meals, and discounted laundry service. Members of the MSC Voyager Club at Classic level and above receive a 5 percent booking discount, along with triple loyalty points credited before departure.

For world-cruise enthusiasts, MSC’s latest offering blends long-distance adventure with refreshed onboard luxury, promising a journey as memorable as the destinations themselves.

Regent Seven Seas Charts New Course with First Winter Med Season

by Porthole Cruise and Travel December 18, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Regent Seven Seas Cruises has announced a new collection of global voyages for Seven Seas Navigator, marking the luxury cruise line’s first full winter season in the Mediterranean and an expanded slate of long-distance sailings spanning five continents.

The 32 new itineraries will operate between Nov. 1, 2026, and Nov. 20, 2027, with voyages ranging from nine to 27 nights. The schedule introduces winter sailings in the Mediterranean — a first for the ultra-luxury brand — followed by extended journeys through Africa, Asia, Australia and the South Pacific.

Regent officials said the winter Mediterranean season is designed to offer travelers a quieter, more immersive experience in iconic destinations, with fewer crowds and cooler temperatures. Ports of call include cities in Italy, Malta, Tunisia, France, Spain and Greece, allowing guests to explore historic neighborhoods, museums and regional cuisine at a more relaxed pace.

“The launch of this new season marks an exciting evolution for Seven Seas Navigator and for Regent,” said Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “From quieter winters in the Mediterranean’s most beloved destinations to adventures in the Asia-Pacific and rare overnight stays in iconic ports of call, this collection reflects our commitment to delivering immersive and effortlessly luxurious travel experiences.”

Following a scheduled dry dock in late 2026 in Genoa, Italy, Seven Seas Navigator will reenter service as an intimate, all-suite vessel accommodating 496 guests. The ship features 244 suites and a crew of 365, offering a high staff-to-guest ratio. Onboard amenities include multiple lounges and bars, Italian marble finishes, crystal chandeliers, contemporary artwork and specialty dining venues such as Compass Rose, Prime 7, and Sette Mari at La Veranda.

Among the highlighted sailings is a 10-night voyage from Rome to Barcelona beginning Nov. 1, 2026, launching the winter Mediterranean season. A 14-night Eastern Mediterranean cruise from Istanbul to Athens in January 2027 includes overnight stays in Cyprus and Egypt. In February 2027, a 25-night transcontinental voyage will sail from Lisbon to Cape Town, tracing Africa’s Atlantic coast.

Later itineraries include a 12-night round-trip cruise from Tokyo in April 2027, a 10-night South Pacific sailing round-trip from Lautoka, Fiji, in August, and a 14-night journey from Sydney to Bali in September.

Regent’s voyages are marketed as all-inclusive, with fares covering shore excursions, dining, beverages, gratuities, Wi-Fi and onboard amenities, with optional upgrades that include air travel and private transfers.

Windstar Cruises Launches Richest Wave Season Offer in Company History

by Porthole Cruise and Travel December 17, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Windstar Cruises has launched what it is calling the richest Wave Season promotion in the company’s history, rolling out a value-driven offer aimed at boosting bookings for 2026 and beyond.

The promotion, called “Beyond Inclusive,” runs from Dec. 17, 2025, through March 31, 2026, and applies to select voyages departing through March 31, 2027. Windstar said the limited-time offer is designed to appeal to cruise fans looking for strong value while giving travel advisors added tools to close sales.

The Wave Season package includes a complimentary all-inclusive upgrade covering select beverages, Wi-Fi, and gratuities, valued at up to $99 per guest per night. Guests booking eligible sailings also receive a free pre-cruise hotel night, where available, hotel-to-yacht transfers, and up to $1,000 in onboard credit per guest. No promotional code is required, and the offer automatically applies when qualifying voyages are viewed.

“This is one of the strongest value-driven promotions we’ve ever created,” said Janet Bava, chief commercial officer for Windstar Cruises. “Especially for guests considering small-ship luxury for the first time.”

Windstar operates a fleet of small ships carrying between 148 and 342 guests, a size that appeals to travelers seeking a more intimate experience, personalized service, and destination-focused itineraries. The cruise line has built its reputation on combining yacht-style cruising with year-round value, recently earning recognition from our Readers’ Choice Awards as the Most Romantic Cruise Line.

The Wave Season offer applies across many of Windstar’s most popular regions. In Europe, the line sails year-round, including Local Season Mediterranean voyages during late fall, winter, and early spring, when ports are typically less crowded. In Tahiti, Windstar draws on nearly four decades of experience in the region, offering itineraries that emphasize cultural immersion and natural history. Other eligible destinations include Costa Rica and the Panama Canal, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

Windstar offers two distinct styles of ships: Wind-class sailing yachts and Star-class all-suite motor yachts. The fleet is set to expand with the addition of two new Star-class vessels. Star Seeker is scheduled to debut Dec. 28, 2025, followed by Star Explorer on Dec. 28, 2026. Both ships will feature new suite categories and a modernized design.

Windstar said the combination of onboard amenities, pre-cruise benefits, and onboard credit makes the Wave Season promotion one of its most compelling value propositions to date.

Jamaica Cruise Tourism Returns as Major Ports Reopen

by Julie Bouchner December 15, 2025
written by Julie Bouchner

Jamaica’s cruise industry is back up and running, with all four major cruise ports reopened after Hurricane Melissa. Port Royal, Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, and Falmouth have all welcomed ships again, marking the return of cruise activity across the island.

This quick turnaround was made possible through the combined efforts of the Ministry of Tourism, its agencies, JAMVAC/Jamaica Cruising, the Port Authority of Jamaica, Destination Assurance Councils, local authorities, emergency teams, and industry partners. While some restoration work is still underway, cruise operations have officially resumed and core systems are in place.

The restart of cruise operations also came with a notable milestone: the arrival of the Vasco da Gama as the first homeporting vessel to operate out of Kingston since the reopening of the Port Royal/Kingston gateway.

The Vasco da Gama is a mid-sized cruise ship known for longer itineraries and premium onboard offerings. Its arrival marks Jamaica’s move into cruise homeporting, where ships begin and end their voyages in the destination rather than stopping only as a port of call.

Homeporting brings added economic benefits, from increased spending by passengers and crew to higher demand for flights, hotels, transportation, restaurants, and tours. It also supports port services such as bunkering, provisioning, waste removal, and technical operations, while encouraging visitors to spend more time in the destination before or after their cruise.

With all four ports now open and homeporting underway in Kingston, Jamaica is strengthening its role as a competitive cruise destination in the region. Despite recent challenges, the cruise sector is moving forward with steady momentum.

MSC Cruises has placed an order for four next-generation cruise ships with MEYER WERFT, with options for two additional vessels, launching a new ship class under the New Frontier platform. The agreement secures long-term production capacity at the Papenburg, Germany, shipyard into the next decade.

The announcement was made at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy by Federal Minister Katherina Reiche, Lower Saxony Minister-President Olaf Lies, MSC Cruises Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago, and MEYER WERFT CEO Dr. Bernd Eikens.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises, said: “MEYER WERFT’s track record, expertise and proud history make it a true beacon of European shipbuilding. Together, we will create vessels that redefine the cruise experience while preserving the craftsmanship that keeps Germany at the forefront of maritime engineering. The New Frontier class will enable us to design new and exclusive itineraries, offer exceptional guest experience and will feature next-generation environmental technologies that will advance our net-zero 2050 commitment.”

The New Frontier vessels will have a maximum passenger capacity of approximately 5,400 and a gross tonnage of about 180,000, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2030 at a rate of one ship per year.

For MEYER WERFT, the agreement represents a long-term commitment that supports employment and continued investment at the shipyard and across its supplier network.

Dr. Bernd Eikens, CEO of MEYER WERFT said: “This new order marks a significant milestone in the 230-year history of MEYER WERFT. We are delighted to welcome MSC Cruises as a new customer and strategic partner, and we are truly honored by the trust they have placed in us. This long-term partnership with MSC Cruises ensures sustainable growth and job security for many years to come. Today is a truly positive and significant day for everyone at MEYER WERFT—our employees and our partners alike.”

The order is expected to secure thousands of jobs in Germany, particularly in Lower Saxony and Papenburg. MEYER WERFT employs more than 3,200 people directly, with over 20,000 additional jobs in the region linked to its operations.

With deliveries extending into the 2030s, the agreement reinforces Papenburg’s position as a key hub for global cruise shipbuilding and supports the long-term strength of Europe’s maritime manufacturing sector.

MSC Cruises Unveils New ‘Let’s Holiday’ Campaign

by Julie Bouchner December 15, 2025
written by Julie Bouchner

Drew Barrymore and Orlando Bloom will return in a new commercial for MSC Cruises’ “Let’s Holiday” campaign as the cruise line rolls out its winter 2027–2028 deployment.

MSC Cruises on Monday announced its full lineup of ships and itineraries for the season and shared a behind-the-scenes preview of the upcoming ad, which is set to debut next year during Wave Season.

Drew Barrymore said: “It was amazing to be back on board MSC World America—my god daughter!—to shoot another ‘Let’s Holiday’ commercial. I love doing this job, I love working with Orlando, and I love enjoying all the ways European style and American comfort come together when you’re sailing with MSC Cruises. I got to dine at Eataly and of course there’s the Cliffhanger ride, but what I love the most is how you can choose your own holiday adventure. MSC Cruises has so many ships setting sail from so many places, and they all offer their own cool features to discover!”

Winter 2027–2028 Deployment Overview

MSC Cruises will offer a range of Caribbean itineraries sailing from three U.S. homeports during the winter 2027–2028 season. The schedule includes the inaugural sailing of MSC World Atlantic from Port Canaveral, operating alternating seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. MSC Grandiosa will also sail from Port Canaveral with three- and four-night cruises to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve and The Bahamas.

From PortMiami, MSC World America will anchor a four-ship lineup that includes short cruises aboard MSC Seaside, six- and eight-night itineraries on MSC Seashore, and longer 10- and 11-night sailings on MSC Poesia. In Galveston, MSC Seascape will operate seven-night Western Caribbean cruises.

Campaign Details

Barrymore and Bloom first appeared together in MSC Cruises’ “Let’s Holiday” campaign earlier this year, which debuted during the Big Game. The new commercial continues the campaign with updated creative highlighting MSC’s blend of European style and American comfort. Filming recently took place aboard MSC World America, and the cruise line has released a preview along with an interview featuring the two stars.

Bloom said: “MSC Cruises really does have something for everyone. Being back on MSC World America for this new commercial was great because I was able to see what the full cruising experience is like. I went from a quiet spa day on board to a gorgeous beach day at Ocean Cay. Drew and I have great chemistry, and we loved working together again. I can’t wait for people to see the next chapter of ‘Let’s Holiday’ and watch us discover more of MSC Cruises’ European style and American comfort.”

The new commercial is scheduled to debut in early 2026, ahead of several milestones for MSC Cruises, including its first Alaska season from Seattle aboard MSC Poesia beginning in May and the debut of MSC World Asia in the Mediterranean later in the year.

Steve Leland’s Crossing the Atlantic with Azamara

by Steve Leland December 11, 2025
written by Steve Leland

My friends looked completely bewildered when I told them we were flying from Miami to Lisbon just to cruise back home. “Why go to all that trouble?” they asked. To me, the answer was effortless: How could I possibly turn down 14 days aboard Azamara Onward? It was a chance to unwind, savor incredible food, and let someone else take care of every detail. Enjoying nearly two weeks of comfort, discovery, and ocean views wasn’t a question. It was the only sensible choice.

Dining at Sea

Photo: Azamara Cruises

There’s something about repositioning cruises with the unhurried days at sea that encourages you to settle into the rhythm of the ship, savor its amenities, and appreciate great service. It’s completely opposite to the vibe of port-intensive itineraries.

But on this sailing, my motivation went beyond the serenity of sea days. As a fervent foodie, there was an entirely different temptation at play that promised its own kind of indulgence and ultimately became the real hook for me.

Azamara Cruises | Destination Immersion

Destination Immersion | Photo: Azamara Cruises

As an extension of Azamara’s Destination Immersion ethos, this specific voyage placed emphasis on the line’s evolving culinary prowess. Our crossing became a taste-bud treasure hunt, infused with regional aromas, textures, and traditions of the Atlantic … and the rest of the world.

A tone of gastronomic celebration was set almost immediately. On our first night, the ship unveiled a seafood extravaganza in the Windows Café Buffet serving up cold, briny oysters, glistening prawns, and delicately prepared fish, with each dish echoing the ocean we were crossing. Meanwhile, the dining room offered an Indonesian-inspired menu that felt like a personal invitation. As someone who adores Indonesian cuisine, I couldn’t resist the crisp freshness of a gado-gado salad, its vegetables snapping with every bite beneath a spicy peanut dressing. The beef rendang that followed was slow-cooked to tenderness, and rich with coconut, chili, and warm aromatic spices that lingered long after the last bite.

Day on Shore

I hadn’t come for destinations, but having missed the opportunity to view the inside of the Hassan II Mosque on previous visits to Casablanca, I jumped at the chance to enter one of Africa’s largest mosques with its 689-foot minaret, the second tallest in the world.

Once the lone port of call was complete, the ship aimed itself toward ten open-ocean days across the Atlantic. It may seem like a leap for first-timers, but believe me, there’s nothing quite like the serenity of a trans-Atlantic crossing.

Mosaic Cafe | Photo: Azamara Cruises

Before long, the daily rituals just felt natural. Mornings began with a proper caffeine fix at the ship’s specialty coffee bar, the Mosaic Cafe. That was followed by a mile-long walk around the deck and a stop at the gym, just long enough to justify the temptations of the themed lunch buffets.

Afternoons unfolded at an easy pace with enrichment lectures, trivia sessions, and seminars exploring red and white wine varietals, topped off with a restorative dip in the poolside hot tub before dinner.

Evenings invited guests to explore a world of flavors through regionally inspired menus, with Asian, German, Italian, Mexican, and French themes all taking their turn in the spotlight. Azamara enhanced these offerings even further with its specialty venues: the Italian-inspired elegance of Aqualina and the refined, classic steakhouse ambience of the Prime C Restaurant.

For guests looking to elevate their culinary journey even further, Azamara’s Chef’s Table options turned dinner into a truly memorable affair. One evening may showcase the rich, layered flavors of an Indonesian rijsttafel, a feast perfectly suited for those eager to explore beyond the familiar. Another might present a refined procession of French classics, each course vibrant, generous, and paired with top-shelf wines, all to the delight of the most curious of palates.

An open-air Latin American street-food festival brought the sizzle of grills into a spirited showcase of bold regional flavors.

The highly celebrated White Night dinner transformed the entire deck into a brilliant outdoor party with dining under the stars. twinkling lights, live music, and a contagious energy that pulled everyone onto the dance floor.

Choosing where to dine became a pleasant dilemma: full-service elegance in the beautiful Discoveries Restaurant, or the relaxed ease of the Windows Café buffet. Alfresco options beckoned poolside at the Patio … or we could ease into a front-row seat to the horizon slipping away in the ship’s wake on the Sunset Veranda.

Beyond the Belly

Okay, I know it sounds like food is the only thing rattling around in my head. While it does occupy significant mental real estate, why should my taste buds be the only sense receptors having all the fun?

So I sprinkled in a different kind of  personal indulgence in an attempt to convince my aging body that it’s still a finely tuned machine. Luckily, Azamara’s Sanctuary, the ship’s full-service spa, was perfectly equipped to keep the illusion alive … and the perfect excuse to be pampered into a state of bliss.

A chat with the spa’s expert therapists revealed the perfect remedy for my ever-persistent back grumble. A gentle massage, enhanced with warm herbal poultices that felt like tiny pillows of enchantment, was exactly what the situation required. The relief was so immediate that I followed up the next day with a full-body Thai massage, an experience that proved these therapists possess a kind of professional wizardry that can coax even the creakiest traveler back to life.

With each day’s blend of memorable flavors, thoughtful enrichment, and restorative moments, I found my cravings for nourishment, insight, and renewal fully met. All that remained was Azamara’s engaging lineup of evening entertainment. Talented singers took the stage with spirited musical revues, while a magician–mentalist and a special guest vocalist added variety through intimate spotlight performances. In the Living Room Lounge, the Sensasia Quartet stood out as a true gem, one of the finest lounge bands I’ve heard in more than 40 years of cruising.

By the time Miami’s skyline appeared on the horizon after being at sea for 14 days, the trip had delivered exactly what I’d hoped for. My friends may still shake their heads at the idea of flying across an ocean just to sail back, but for me, this wasn’t trouble, it was the reward. If given the choice, I’d do it again in a heartbeat (and I will).

by Julie Bouchner December 9, 2025
written by Julie Bouchner

Regent Seven Seas Cruises marked a major milestone for Seven Seas Prestige as the ship floated from dry dock on November 27, 2025.

As Regent’s first new ship class in 10 years, Seven Seas Prestige sets a new standard for ultra-luxury cruising.

“Seven Seas Prestige touching water for the first time marks an extraordinary moment for Regent Seven Seas Cruises, representing the culmination of years of planning and collaboration with our long-standing partners at Fincantieri,” said Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer for Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “The overwhelming response to this vessel affirms that discerning travelers recognize something truly exceptional is on the horizon; emphasized by the ship’s launch day which became our biggest single booking day for a new ship in our history. From the unprecedented Skyview Regent Suite to every thoughtfully designed detail, Seven Seas Prestige embodies our dedication to redefining ultra-luxury travel.”

More about the float-out ceremony

  • The float-out took place at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard in Italy. Brunetta Casara served as Madrina, breaking a champagne bottle against the hull and cutting the ceremonial ribbon after a prayer by the shipyard chaplain.
  • Marco Spiga, Senior Director, Project Manager, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, thanked Fincantieri for their partnership in bringing the ship to life.
  • The ship will now move to the outfitting pier for final construction.

About Seven Seas Prestige

Set to debut in December 2026 as Regent’s seventh ship and first of three Prestige-class ships, Seven Seas Prestige will carry 822 guests with 630 crew, offering one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in the industry. The ship is 40 percent larger than previous Regent vessels but accommodates only 10 percent more guests, delivering Unrivaled Space at Sea.

During its inaugural season, Seven Seas Prestige will sail 13 voyages across Europe and the Caribbean, including two transatlantic crossings. Itineraries of 10 to 15 nights highlight destinations such as Regent’s private island, Harvest Caye, Belize, the Panama Canal, and overnight stays in London, Lisbon, and Bordeaux.

A second Prestige-class ship is planned for 2030 and a third for 2033.

Whither Adventure?

by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine December 9, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine

How close does your cruise bring you to the real Alaska — and how close do you really want to be? That felt like the right question to ask as I almost stepped in a pile of bear poop.

I was hiking near the head of the line of about fifteen passengers from Alaskan Dream Cruise’s Admiralty Dream — about half the passenger roster for our 7-night, 8-day sailing on the “Alaska’s Ultimate Adventure” itinerary, which launched just this year. It was at least the fourth or fifth poo-pile we’d seen on that trail, each one more recently deposited than the last. That meant we were not far behind the bear, heading the same direction and getting closer. We never did see it, but no doubt it saw us, or at least heard us, as it melted into the forest.

That easy, mile-long ramble through the tall trees and mossy, sound-dampening understory of the temperate rainforest gave us a gentle introduction to hiking in Southeast Alaska. And it was the first of many opportunities during the trip for us passengers to put our heads together and chatter about what we’d seen — something that would, ultimately, become one of the hottest topics for our wide-ranging dinner discussions, as we abandoned any pretense of dining at separate tables. With the help of the stewards, pushed the four-tops into long, banquet-style tables that ran the length of the dining room and made it easier to visit with one another.

How many miles would an Alaskan hiker?

When I first signed up for this trip, I was content to wait and see just how much adventure it takes to reach that”’ultimate” label. Alaskans tend to go hard in the adventure category, but it’s still true that one person’s ultimate adventure up here could be another person’s boring Tuesday, and vice versa. Add in the fact that most cruise adventures tend to exist within their own realm, and it was hard to guess what I was getting into.

So I didn’t even try to figure it out — until I suffered a serious knee injury that will take at least a year to heal. It left me fretting whether I’d be able to participate in the cruise activities — especially the hiking.

Happily, I needn’t have worried. Although there is no clear label of how many miles you’ll hike on this cruise, how many boat landings you’ll do, or how long you’ll spend in a kayak, from day one, the crew is taking your measure and tailoring the activities to meet your desires and mobility levels. There were easy, medium and hard — or in one case, “extreme” — options for every hike, and plenty of crew on hand to escort passengers in every group.

Never leave your wing…kayak?

The sole admonition when kayaking was to not paddle out of sight of the Admiralty Dream. But as long as we didn’t stray too far from the mothership we were free to explore. So we promptly scattered in the mild, rippling waves of the protected bay we’d been deployed in.

Some of us homed in on a nearby salmon stream, ducking our heads to spot groups of fish congregating before they forged their way upstream. Others scooted along the cliff edges, alternately gazing down into the water then….
