Atlas Ocean Voyages Announces Atlas Adventurer

by Julie Bouchner January 20, 2026
written by Julie Bouchner

Atlas Ocean Voyages announced it is building its first luxury expedition sailing yacht, marking an expansion of its expedition cruise offerings.

Atlas Adventurer is a hybrid-powered sailing yacht built for global travel. It features modern marine systems, comfortable guest spaces, and three carbon masts with solid sails that improve efficiency and allow for quiet, zero-emission sailing when wind conditions permit. The 26,000-gross-ton, 690-foot yacht is powered by dual-fuel engines and an electric-hybrid system with a 9-megawatt battery, ensuring efficient, quiet operation even in light wind. It also includes stabilizers, a reinforced hull, and Ice Class 1B (Polar Category C) certification, enabling safe travel to a wide range of destinations worldwide.

“This new Atlas-class sailing yacht represents the next step in our growth,” said James A.  Rodriguez, President & CEO of Atlas Ocean Voyages. “It allows us to expand our destination  footprint into regions our guests have been asking us for, while further solidifying Atlas’ position within the luxury expedition cruise category. As our brand continues to evolve, this vessel is a  powerful expression of where we are headed: thoughtful growth, intentional design, and deeper  global exploration.”

Atlas Adventurer will accommodate up to 400 guests with a crew of 275. The yacht will feature all-suite accommodations, larger public spaces, and a broader range of dining, wellness, and social venues, while keeping the personalized service that defines Atlas Ocean Voyages.

“Atlas Ocean Voyages has always been driven by innovation in how we explore the world,” said  Mario Ferreira, Chairman, Founder and Owner of Mystic Invest Holding, Atlas’ parent company.  “With Atlas Adventurer, we are introducing a new generation of luxury expedition sailing yachts.  This vessel serves as a bridge between the wind mastery of the 15th century and the solid sails  and electric propulsion of the 21st century. The yacht is designed to comply with future zero  emission port regulations and can navigate silently, allowing access to some of the most  exclusive and restricted small ports around the world. This vessel combines modern design  with advanced technology, featuring carbon-fiber masts and solid sails, along with a powerful 9- megawatt battery system that enables near-silent operation when sailing under wind power. These advancements highlight our ongoing commitment to sustainable and innovative tourism,  while also expanding the destinations we can explore and enhancing the onboard experiences  our guests have come to expect. Atlas Adventurer represents the next evolution in responsible,  highly technological, comfortable, and safe yacht design.”

Beginning in late 2028, Atlas Adventurer will sail to destinations across Asia, including Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, as well as Africa, including Seychelles, Madagascar, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa.

Additional details, including suite designs, onboard experiences, dining venues, and itineraries, will be announced in the coming months.

Royal Caribbean Group Launches Points Choice Loyalty Program

by Julie Bouchner January 15, 2026
written by Julie Bouchner

Royal Caribbean Group has introduced Points Choice, a new loyalty program that lets guests earn points across all three of its brands and use them where they choose, no matter which ship they sail on.

Royal Caribbean Group is expanding benefits for its most loyal guests and making rewards work across brands. Points Choice reinforces the company’s focus on rewarding repeat travelers and ensuring every trip and every point count across Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea.

“Points Choice is designed with our guests at the center,” said Jason Liberty, chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group. “Our guests are exploring more of our brands than ever before, and we believe our loyalty experience should grow with them. Points Choice gives every guest the power to direct their loyalty points within our family of brands where they will have the biggest impact for them.”

Launching in January 2026, Points Choice links Royal Caribbean Group’s loyalty programs, including Royal Caribbean’s Crown & Anchor Society, Celebrity Cruises’ Captain’s Club, and Silversea’s Venetian Society. Guests can earn points with one brand and apply them to any of the three programs, allowing them to continue building status where they choose or move points to explore another brand.

RELATED: Royal Caribbean Opens Royal Beach Club Paradise Island

Points Choice builds on the Status Match program introduced in May 2024, which lets members receive equivalent tier status across all three brands. This ensures guests keep their benefits when sailing within the Royal Caribbean Group portfolio.

Points Choice highlights include:

  • Flexibility: Guests can apply earned points to the loyalty program of their choice while maintaining status match across brands.
  • Earning points: Members earn points as they do today and can move points up to 14 days after sailing through an online portal.
  • Effective date: Available for sailings departing on or after January 30, 2026.

Additional details, including point conversions and FAQs, are available online.

Steve Leland Eats His Way Through The Streets Of Singapore

by Steve Leland January 14, 2026
written by Steve Leland

With fond memories of our recent food experiences with A Chef’s Tour in Bangkok, it was only natural to sign up with them again, this time to eat our way through the streets of Singapore. Beginning just as the city’s heat started to soften in the mid-afternoon, we stepped into Maxwell Hawker Centre. The food court was alive with the clatter of plates, the sizzle of woks, and the easy chatter between locals. Rows of brightly lit signs promised dishes passed down through generations, each stall carrying a story of its own.

The first bite to launch the adventure was a Fuzhou oyster cake. A small, golden fritter of rice-flour batter, it’s packed with briny oysters, then fried in round molds until crisp outside and soft and custardy within. This single mouthful was a perfect snapshot of what would become an unforgettable journey.

RELATED: 5 Faves: Must-Try Cambodian Street Foods.

Dozens of hawker centers are scattered across the city, and what makes them so special is the ease of tasting the world in one place. Within a few steps, you move effortlessly between cultures: Malaysian curry empanadas and richly spiced dry curry, delicate Chinese soup dumplings (xiao long bao), Indonesian turnip spring rolls dipped in peanut sauce, and crisp Thai fried spring-roll cups. This walkable feast is proof that the city’s greatest diversity is often found at one shared table.

Proof that greatness doesn’t need tablecloths, Hawker Chan is tucked into a humble stall at the Chinatown Complex, famous for a single dish: soy sauce chicken rice. Awarded one Michelin star, it became one of the most affordable Michelin-recognized meals in the world. No theatrics, no reservations, just a queue, a tray, and a masterclass in Singapore’s hawker culture, where flavor, value, and tradition reign supreme.

Wandering the streets, it quickly becomes apparent that eating may well be the national pastime. Everywhere, street vendors, hawker centers, and cafés serve flavors shaped by centuries of seafarers arriving from around the world.

We take the subway to Little India. Surrounded by Hindu temples, we arrive at the Tekka Centre food market, making room for a blistered shrimp fritter, crisp dosa with coconut chili, and a satisfying wedge of mutton “pizza” murtabak.

As the tour draws to a close, it offers one final lesson in the city’s remarkable diversity. We finish with side-street tea and a syrup-soaked Turkish dessert, enjoyed beside one of Singapore’s grandest mosques.

Eating felt like learning — not from a textbook, but from the city itself. By the end of the night, we were full but reluctant to leave. As the sounds and smells of the hawker center faded behind us, the flavors lingered through final goodbyes, our gaze fixed on the glow of the impressive Marina Bay Sands.

A Chef’s Tour isn’t just about tasting dishes; it’s about understanding Singapore through what it cooks, shares, and proudly serves every day.

Explora Journeys Hosts Exclusive Melbourne Event With Jannik Sinner

by Julie Bouchner January 14, 2026
written by Julie Bouchner

Ahead of the Australian Open, Explora Journeys hosted a small event with tennis player and Global Brand Ambassador Jannik Sinner at Stokehouse in St Kilda on January 13. The evening marked the next step in their partnership and included an early look at a new onboard wellness program being created with Sinner and his performance team for Explora Journeys guests.

Sinner spoke about the training, recovery and mental focus that support his performance on court, and how important balance is to his routine. Those ideas are shaping the new program, which will be offered across all Explora Journeys ships beginning with the Mediterranean season in March 2026.

The program, called In Balance: A Jannik Sinner Ocean Wellness Program, will include movement, breathwork and recovery-focused experiences designed to help guests reset physically and mentally while at sea.

During a Q&A, Sinner shared how he manages pressure, stays focused during competition and builds recovery into his daily life. Guests were given a preview of how those practices will translate into onboard experiences.

The event also tied into Explora Journeys’ broader involvement in global sporting events. In 2025, guests watched the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix from EXPLORA II in Monte Carlo, with access to curated onshore and onboard experiences. The brand will return in 2026 with EXPLORA I docked in Monaco during the race.

Through its partnership with Sinner, Explora Journeys continues to develop onboard experiences focused on wellness, recovery, and slower, more intentional travel.

Meet Dr. Dolphin

by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine January 14, 2026
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine

It’s midafternoon on our tour boat, now bobbing gently in the calm, cobalt waters situated just outside of  ʼŌpūnohu Bay on Moorea’s famed north coast. For our shore excursion for Day 2 of a week-long Dreams of Tahiti (Papeete-to-Papeete) Windstar Cruise on Star Breeze in March 2024 — about 12 of us in all — we’re setting out to see the island’s resident spinner dolphins in action.

Our guide? Only the one of the world’s foremost experts, American marine biologist Dr. Michael Poole, aka Dr. Dolphin.

The first scientist to study dolphins and whales in French Polynesia beginning in 1987, Poole started offering eco-tours in 1992 (also the first of their kind in the country) to help fund his research. Eager to share his knowledge, his tours were popular with locals and tourists from the start.

“We’ve got dolphins up ahead, 12 o’clock, between us and that boat!” he says, animated, as if he, too, is seeing spinner dolphins for the first time.

We follow his gaze toward a tight formation of dark-gray dorsal fins rising and falling in unison, their tiny bodies catching sunlight with each rhythmic resurfacing.

Agile and compact like a gymnast, they’re among the smallest oceanic dolphin species, Poole says — up to 7 feet and 200 pounds. Bottlenose dolphins like Flipper, by comparison, are two times longer and up to six times heavier.

“Spinner dolphins are the most aerially acrobatic species of dolphin in the world, and do more jumps and more types of jumps than any other species,” he says. “And they are the only ones to spin like a ballerina.”

A spinner dolphin leaps into the air near the front of our boat, a twirling flash of gray, then splashes into the water. With each pirouette that follows, so does our chorus of “ooohs” and “aaahs.”

Nocturnal hunters, these dolphins spent last night diving 300 to 400 meters deep — 100 stories below the surface — and now, Poole says, this is their socialization period. It’s basically a victory dance, much like we did in high school after winning the big game.

“We had a victory celebration. ‘We’re the champions! We won the big game last night!’” he says. “Then we crashed out afterwards.”

Following a midday siesta, he says, they boost their adrenaline with yet more activity to prepare for the next “big game.”

“These dolphins have a pep rally before heading out to sea for that nighttime feeding,” he says. “They’re going to be spinning up in the air and jumping all over each other.”

“A very successful tour, folks!” he jokes, having just started the tour.  “We’ll head back!”

“Wait. How long is this?” one woman asks.

“It’s a three-hour tour,” Poole says. “The name of this boat is the Minnow.”

Everyone chuckles save for my two teenage sons, ages 18 and 16, too young to appreciate Gilligan’s Island and the antics of seven madcap characters trying to survive on a deserted island. I think to myself that Gilligan, Skipper, and the others would’ve happily gotten “stuck” in a place like Moorea.

Nicknamed “Tahiti’s Little Sister,” just a 35-minute ferry ride away, Moorea may have less brand recognition than Tahiti or Bora Bora. But if Tahiti is the bigger, more sophisticated sister who’s eager for bustling streets, cultural centers, and fine dining, Moorea is the athletic one wearing board shorts and flip flops who’s ready for adventure.

A heart-shaped island roughly one-eighth the size of Tahiti, Moorea’s iconic north coast spans the arched “lobes” of the heart with twin notches for each bay: Cook’s on the east of the sacred mountain, Mount Rotui; ʼŌpūnohu to the west.

Poole is everything you’d expect of a marine biologist who’s lived for nearly 40 years in Moorea: barefooted and wearing a white t-shirt and swimming trunks, a sun-faded baseball cap concealing shoulder-length, brown hair.

We pepper him with questions, and he answers them like an old friend while keeping an eye out for spinner dolphins.

How did you learn French? Why do spinner dolphins spin?

Answers: He courted his Tahitian wife using an English-French dictionary, who eventually admitted she studied English in school. (They married in 1990.) We don’t know why spinner dolphins spin, but we have an idea that it’s wired into their genome, like a male dog that instinctively….

Norwegian Cruise Line Launches New Brand and TV Campaign

by Julie Bouchner January 12, 2026
written by Julie Bouchner

Today, Norwegian Cruise Line unveiled a refreshed brand identity inspired by its 1990s tagline, “It’s Different Out Here,” along with a first look at its new national TV campaign.

The update builds on NCL’s history of innovation, including the introduction of Freestyle Cruising, which removed fixed dining times and structured entertainment schedules. NCL was also the first cruise line to offer weekly Caribbean sailings and to launch a private island, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas.

The new brand direction targets travelers who want flexibility and a more relaxed experience, with time to enjoy where they are and who they’re with.

Created with agency partner Arnold Worldwide, the platform moves away from overpacked itineraries and attraction-heavy vacations, focusing instead on simpler moments and time well spent.

“This is a pivotal moment for Norwegian Cruise Line. We’re not just launching a campaign – we’re re-anchoring our brand in the values that have always set us apart: freedom and flexibility,” said Kiran Smith, chief marketing officer of Norwegian Cruise Line. “For nearly 60 years, NCL has been an innovator, and this transformation honors that legacy while meeting the expectations of today’s guests. Delivering on this vision takes trusted partners who understand our DNA, and Arnold has helped us bring it to life in a way that is authentic, and unmistakably NCL.”

For All Maritime: The New TV Campaign

The national rollout is led by a new TV campaign, “For All Maritime.” The spot highlights travelers who don’t follow traditional cruise rules and prefer more freedom and flexibility. Drawing on maritime history, the film showcases sailors who have always done things their own way.

The campaign runs across TV, digital, social, radio, and out-of-home, introducing a new look that focuses on the traveler’s experience rather than just onboard amenities. Across channels, the creative sets NCL apart in a category where many brands have started to look the same.

The platform, “It’s Different Out Here,” launches as NCL enters a milestone year. In March, the company will debut its 21st ship, Norwegian Luna, and this summer it will add new features to its private island in the Bahamas, including the Great Tides Waterpark.

For more information on NCL’s fleet and itineraries or to book a cruise, contact a travel professional, call 888-NCL-CRUISE (625-2784), or visit www.ncl.com.

Delivered by the Lemartec-NV2A Joint Venture in partnership with Perez & Perez Architects & Planners, the state-of-the-art terminal is designed for Royal Caribbean Group, targeting LEED certification and the capacity to handle up to 7,000 passengers. The project includes a multi-level parking garage, an intermodal facility, and other infrastructure to support large ships such as the Icon-class vessels.

“This world-class facility will enhance Miami-Dade County’s skyline while marking another milestone in PortMiami’s evolution. Our modern terminals are transforming how we do business and move people, delivering greater efficiency through innovative technology.” – Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

The $345 million terminal will be dedicated to Royal Caribbean Group while maintaining multi-vessel functionality. As a single-berth terminal, it will enable faster embarkation and disembarkation through advanced construction, energy-efficient design, and passenger-focused planning.

Beyond improving passenger operations, the terminal’s iconic architecture will contribute to PortMiami’s evolving skyline and strengthen Miami’s position as the Cruise Capital of the World. The terminal is expected to be completed by late 2027.

“Cruise Terminal G will be a world-class gateway to the sea, creating jobs and driving economic growth. This iconic addition to PortMiami secures Miami’s place as the Cruise Capital of the World® for generations to come.”

Cruising for a Brew-sing

by Elizabeth Martinez January 8, 2026
written by Elizabeth Martinez

Every beer lover knows that first cold sip of a favorite lager, pilsner, or IPA just hits differently, especially when paired with ocean breezes or peaceful river views. It’s no surprise, then, that cruise lines are leaning into opening breweries on board, pouring exclusive small-batch or exclusive-to-them creations, and even hosting beer-themed sailings for dedicated enthusiasts. From pints to ports, your next great beer adventure may be waiting on the water.

Brewery On Board

Carnival Cruise Line made history when it launched North America’s first craft brewery at sea aboard Carnival Vista in 2016. The RedFrog Pub & Brewery, created in partnership with Miami’s Concrete Beach Brewery (which became Dogfish Head), brought the art of small batch brewing to the open ocean. Using a custom-built system, brewmasters crafted signature beers right on board, allowing guests to enjoy freshly poured pints not available anywhere else.

Building on that success, breweries are now featured on several other Carnival ships including Carnival Celebration, Carnival Horizon, Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Mardi Gras, and Carnival Panorama, located within venues such as RedFrog and Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse.

Following suit and recently minted in April 2025, MSC Cruises’ MSC World America also created a signature microbrewery-on-board at their Masters of the Sea pub. Brewing American-style lagers, IPAs, and pilsners, the brewery uses processed seawater as the base for its beers. The ship’s advanced desalination system purifies ocean water and combines it with carefully selected hops and malts to create unique flavors. The brews are served at the pub — where guests can see the copper kettles brewing behind glass — and at other venues on the ship. This wasn’t the company’s first frothy facility, however. Previously partnering with Italian brewmaster Teo Musso of Italy’s Baladin Brewery, MSC actually debuted the same concept aboard MSC World Europa in spring 2023.

Sailing for Suds

Beyond the growing selection of craft or exclusive brews at sea, enthusiasts can also book specialty beer cruises that turn the entire voyage into a fun hopportunity.

Get ready to raise a glass and malt and mingle aboard your favorite ocean or river cruise with any of these exciting trips for 2026 and beyond:

  • Avalon Waterways – Enchanted Europe for Beer Enthusiasts, Tulip Time Cruises for Beer Enthusiasts, and More: Guests are immersed in Europe’s beer culture and enjoy expert-led talks with a dedicated regional beermeister, brewery tours, behind-the-scenes experiences, and guided tastings at no extra cost to travelers.
  • Riverside Luxury Cruises – Hops and Heritage: Explore Europe’s historic brewing regions while enjoying tastings and learning about the continent’s rich beer culture.
  • AmaWaterways – Celebration of Beer River Cruises: Sip, savor, and learn with curated tastings, expert lectures, and excursions to local breweries along scenic rivers.

  • Celebrity Cruises – Craft Beer Cruise: In partnership with Cruisin’ with Friends, this voyage highlights craft beer culture with tastings and special events onboard.
  • Margaritaville at Sea – St. Patrick’s Day Sailing: Celebrate the holiday with beer specials and themed menu pairings, perfect for fans of Irish brews and festivities.
  • Maple Leaf Adventures – Craft Beer & Culinary Cruise (British Columbia): Discover the flavors of the Pacific Northwest with brewery tours, tastings, and food pairings designed to complement each brew.
  • Holland America – Experience Oktoberfest: Bring the Bavarian festival to the ocean with themed events, authentic brews, and traditional Oktoberfest fun.

Brews for Your Cruise

For those ships without their own brewhouse, the taproom experience continues with cruise lines that pour standout small-batch or limited-availability favorites specific to that ship or brand.

Aside from the brewed-on-board flavors, Guests sailing on MSC World America can also enjoy an authentic taste of its home port of Miami with special selections from South Florida’s celebrated Cerveceria La Tropical. Originally Cuba’s oldest brewery (established in 1888), La Tropical was reimagined in Miami and serves the community – and the cruise line – with flavors reminiscent of the historic Cuban beer brand.

On the Carnival fleet, their brewed-aboard brands include the ParchedPig collection featuring a West Coast IPA, a Toasted Amber Ale and a Beach Lager as well as the ThirstyFrog Caribbean Wheat Ale. Canned and served as portable pints, these brews are available  across the Carnival fleet on ships without a brewhouse. As a special selection, Carnival also offers an exclusive tap of Heroes American Pale Ale, the refreshing, tropical salute to military personnel that supports Operation Homefront with a $1 donation for every pint they pour.

Royal Caribbean also boasts a private‐label beer collaboration, partnering with South Florida’s Funky Buddha Brewery. Their Chilla Thrilla, a blonde ale brewed with mango and guava flavors, was originally — and exclusively — available at CocoCay, their private island destination. After a short distribution issue during covid was resolved, the tropical brew became available aboard all US sailings as well as on the island port of call.

Virgin Voyages also has a real craft-beer presence with Cooperstown, New York’s Ommegang’s Virgin Craft Beer, an English pale ale that’s bright and citrusy. It gets a touch of herbal heat and spice from grains of paradise, a small reddish-brown seed in the ginger family originating from West Africa. The line also partnered with Miami’s much-missed Wynwood Brewing Company to produce their Stray the Course beer, another EPA now brewed by Veza Sur Brewing. This hoppy blend has some fun nuances of fruit and toffee and is found primarily at Virgin’s Draught Haus venue, but it’s also part of the line’s Rockstar-level in-room minibar.

NCL’s District Brew House, a craft-beer hall also created in partnership with Wynwood Brewing Company, features a rotating line-up of 24 draft beers and 50-plus bottled beers, many of them specialty craft brews, including a signature District Pale Ale available only on NCL ships. Pairing well with burgers, pizza, and wings, it’s known to be very drinkable and one of the best sellers on board. The Brew House also serves craft macro-brands like the Funky Buddha Hop Gun IPA and IPAs on tap from Dogfish Head Brewery.

The Microcation Trend

by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine January 7, 2026
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine

One of the newest trends travel experts are tracking is a rise in “microcations” — brief getaways of no more than three or four days.

If the pandemic years saw a rise in “staycations” (taking time off just to chill out at home), this newer vacation mode combines low-impact planning with the little pleasures of a temporary change in scenery.

One of the microcation pioneers has been Margaritaville at Sea, a cruise line born from a partnership between Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville resorts and Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line. The line specializes in short-duration cruises: 2- and 3-night cruises sailing from Palm Beach and 5- and 6-night itineraries sailing from Tampa.

Other microcations can consist of long weekends at spas, mountain cabins, or visits to nearby cities. The idea caught on with busy execs who can’t be out-of-pocket for a full week, and with families who find it hard to juggle schedules to maximize quality time.

The concept has grown legs … or wings … recently with Bahamasair offering nonstop flights from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to North Eleuthera (ELH) every Wednesday and Sunday over the holiday season for less than $320.

More airlines offer quick and affordable flights from Florida to other Bahamian destinations, including Nassau, Marsh Harbour, and Cat Island. Some are on major carriers, others are serviced by smaller or newer carriers like Western Air, Makers Air, and Tropic Airways.

“Microcations are having a major moment,” says Francisco Perdomo, of Finn Partners. “More people are prioritizing their budgets but still want a reset and change of scenery, and a bite-sized getaway provides the best of both worlds.”

Pros recommend looking for destinations with lots of things to do in easy reach of each other, picking a theme for your microcation activities (a museum crawl? a fishing weekend?), planning travel to maximize your daytime hours in your destination (if flying, landing late at night or early in the morning at an airport close to your hotel), consciously limiting your connectivity, and being open to spontaneous diversions. It’s a vacation, after all!

“Guests told us they wanted more ways to make the most of their time in The Bahamas, and that’s exactly what we created with Royal Beach Club Paradise Island,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean. “From quiet beach time to the ultimate poolside party, this destination offers something for every mood and marks the start of our Royal Beach Club portfolio.”

The beach club has three distinct areas. Family Beach features The Shallow End zero-entry pool, shaded and sunny seating, casual lawn games, and the Ultimate Family Cabana, a two-level private space with a whirlpool, wet-dry slide, frozen drink machine, and dedicated attendant service. Chill Beach offers a quieter setting with white-sand lounging and poolside relaxation at The Deep End, with optional cabanas. Party Cove delivers the most energetic experience, anchored by DJ music and The Floating Flamingo, the world’s largest swim-up bar, with reservable space on the second-level Party Deck for up to 12 guests, including dedicated food and beverage service and ocean views.
