by Julie Bouchner January 12, 2026
written by Julie Bouchner

MSC Cruises will bring Dirty Dancing: In Concert to MSC Poesia for her summer season in Alaska, starting May 11, 2026.

The live-to-film show, created by Lionsgate and GEA Live, has already been a hit on MSC World America from Miami and MSC Virtuosa from Southampton, and will continue on Virtuosa during her winter season in the Southern Caribbean. The 90-minute performance features a live band, singers, and dancers performing in perfect sync with the classic 80s film.

Steve Leatham, Vice President of Entertainment at MSC Cruises, said: “We are thrilled to have Dirty Dancing: In Concert aboard MSC Poesia for MSC Cruises’ first-ever sailings to Alaska this summer season. Following the incredible response we have seen since the launch on MSC World America and MSC Virtuosa, we’re excited to offer it on more of our ships for our guests to enjoy this truly one-of-a-kind experience at sea.”

In addition to Dirty Dancing: In Concert, MSC Poesia will offer a wide range of entertainment this summer, including:

  • Live music: MSC Dueling Pianos every evening, jazz, party bands, salsa, and Latin music throughout the ship, plus an exclusive music program in the Top Sail Lounge for MSC Yacht Club guests.
  • Themed parties and shows: Large-scale performances like Divas, comedy from experienced U.S. comedians, and more.
  • Activities and enrichment: Wellness sessions, sports, arts and crafts, plus expert-led talks and workshops on Alaska’s geography and nature.

MSC Poesia recently underwent one of MSC Cruises’ biggest upgrades, adding the MSC Yacht Club, two specialty restaurants (Butcher’s Cut and Kaito Sushi Bar), All-Stars Sports Bar, a refreshed MSC Aurea Spa, and an enhanced MSC Gym powered by Technogym.

Guests can enjoy these new features on 7-night Alaska sailings from Seattle, visiting destinations like Ketchikan, Icy Strait Hoonah, Tracy Arm, Juneau, and Victoria.

Norwegian Cruise Line Launches New Brand and TV Campaign

by Julie Bouchner January 12, 2026
written by Julie Bouchner

Today, Norwegian Cruise Line unveiled a refreshed brand identity inspired by its 1990s tagline, “It’s Different Out Here,” along with a first look at its new national TV campaign.

The update builds on NCL’s history of innovation, including the introduction of Freestyle Cruising, which removed fixed dining times and structured entertainment schedules. NCL was also the first cruise line to offer weekly Caribbean sailings and to launch a private island, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas.

The new brand direction targets travelers who want flexibility and a more relaxed experience, with time to enjoy where they are and who they’re with.

Created with agency partner Arnold Worldwide, the platform moves away from overpacked itineraries and attraction-heavy vacations, focusing instead on simpler moments and time well spent.

“This is a pivotal moment for Norwegian Cruise Line. We’re not just launching a campaign – we’re re-anchoring our brand in the values that have always set us apart: freedom and flexibility,” said Kiran Smith, chief marketing officer of Norwegian Cruise Line. “For nearly 60 years, NCL has been an innovator, and this transformation honors that legacy while meeting the expectations of today’s guests. Delivering on this vision takes trusted partners who understand our DNA, and Arnold has helped us bring it to life in a way that is authentic, and unmistakably NCL.”

For All Maritime: The New TV Campaign

The national rollout is led by a new TV campaign, “For All Maritime.” The spot highlights travelers who don’t follow traditional cruise rules and prefer more freedom and flexibility. Drawing on maritime history, the film showcases sailors who have always done things their own way.

The campaign runs across TV, digital, social, radio, and out-of-home, introducing a new look that focuses on the traveler’s experience rather than just onboard amenities. Across channels, the creative sets NCL apart in a category where many brands have started to look the same.

The platform, “It’s Different Out Here,” launches as NCL enters a milestone year. In March, the company will debut its 21st ship, Norwegian Luna, and this summer it will add new features to its private island in the Bahamas, including the Great Tides Waterpark.

For more information on NCL’s fleet and itineraries or to book a cruise, contact a travel professional, call 888-NCL-CRUISE (625-2784), or visit www.ncl.com.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, the Board of County Commissioners, PortMiami Director and CEO Hydi Webb, and Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO Jason Liberty today led the groundbreaking for the new Cruise Terminal G at PortMiami.

Delivered by the Lemartec-NV2A Joint Venture in partnership with Perez & Perez Architects & Planners, the state-of-the-art terminal is designed for Royal Caribbean Group, targeting LEED certification and the capacity to handle up to 7,000 passengers. The project includes a multi-level parking garage, an intermodal facility, and other infrastructure to support large ships such as the Icon-class vessels.

“This world-class facility will enhance Miami-Dade County’s skyline while marking another milestone in PortMiami’s evolution. Our modern terminals are transforming how we do business and move people, delivering greater efficiency through innovative technology.” – Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

The $345 million terminal will be dedicated to Royal Caribbean Group while maintaining multi-vessel functionality. As a single-berth terminal, it will enable faster embarkation and disembarkation through advanced construction, energy-efficient design, and passenger-focused planning.

“Cruise Terminal G represents a major investment in Miami’s future. Built with advanced technology and sustainable design, this new facility will deliver a smarter, faster, more seamless experience for guests sailing with our industry-leading brands: Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea. It reflects what matters most to us: innovation, collaboration, and delivering the world’s best vacations responsibly – while creating jobs and supporting the local economy for years to come.” – Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO Jason Liberty.

Beyond improving passenger operations, the terminal’s iconic architecture will contribute to PortMiami’s evolving skyline and strengthen Miami’s position as the Cruise Capital of the World. The terminal is expected to be completed by late 2027.

“Cruise Terminal G will be a world-class gateway to the sea, creating jobs and driving economic growth. This iconic addition to PortMiami secures Miami’s place as the Cruise Capital of the World® for generations to come.”
Lemartec-NV2A Joint Venture.

Funding comes through a partnership between Miami-Dade County and Royal Caribbean Group. The project is designed to meet growing demand, accommodate next-generation cruise ships, and deliver a streamlined, passenger-focused experience.

Cruising for a Brew-sing

by Elizabeth Martinez January 8, 2026
written by Elizabeth Martinez

Every beer lover knows that first cold sip of a favorite lager, pilsner, or IPA just hits differently, especially when paired with ocean breezes or peaceful river views. It’s no surprise, then, that cruise lines are leaning into opening breweries on board, pouring exclusive small-batch or exclusive-to-them creations, and even hosting beer-themed sailings for dedicated enthusiasts. From pints to ports, your next great beer adventure may be waiting on the water.

Brewery On Board

Carnival Cruise Line made history when it launched North America’s first craft brewery at sea aboard Carnival Vista in 2016. The RedFrog Pub & Brewery, created in partnership with Miami’s Concrete Beach Brewery (which became Dogfish Head), brought the art of small batch brewing to the open ocean. Using a custom-built system, brewmasters crafted signature beers right on board, allowing guests to enjoy freshly poured pints not available anywhere else.

Building on that success, breweries are now featured on several other Carnival ships including Carnival Celebration, Carnival Horizon, Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Mardi Gras, and Carnival Panorama, located within venues such as RedFrog and Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse.

Following suit and recently minted in April 2025, MSC Cruises’ MSC World America also created a signature microbrewery-on-board at their Masters of the Sea pub. Brewing American-style lagers, IPAs, and pilsners, the brewery uses processed seawater as the base for its beers. The ship’s advanced desalination system purifies ocean water and combines it with carefully selected hops and malts to create unique flavors. The brews are served at the pub — where guests can see the copper kettles brewing behind glass — and at other venues on the ship. This wasn’t the company’s first frothy facility, however. Previously partnering with Italian brewmaster Teo Musso of Italy’s Baladin Brewery, MSC actually debuted the same concept aboard MSC World Europa in spring 2023.

Sailing for Suds

Beyond the growing selection of craft or exclusive brews at sea, enthusiasts can also book specialty beer cruises that turn the entire voyage into a fun hopportunity.

Get ready to raise a glass and malt and mingle aboard your favorite ocean or river cruise with any of these exciting trips for 2026 and beyond:

  • Avalon Waterways – Enchanted Europe for Beer Enthusiasts, Tulip Time Cruises for Beer Enthusiasts, and More: Guests are immersed in Europe’s beer culture and enjoy expert-led talks with a dedicated regional beermeister, brewery tours, behind-the-scenes experiences, and guided tastings at no extra cost to travelers.
  • Riverside Luxury Cruises – Hops and Heritage: Explore Europe’s historic brewing regions while enjoying tastings and learning about the continent’s rich beer culture.
  • AmaWaterways – Celebration of Beer River Cruises: Sip, savor, and learn with curated tastings, expert lectures, and excursions to local breweries along scenic rivers.

  • Celebrity Cruises – Craft Beer Cruise: In partnership with Cruisin’ with Friends, this voyage highlights craft beer culture with tastings and special events onboard.
  • Margaritaville at Sea – St. Patrick’s Day Sailing: Celebrate the holiday with beer specials and themed menu pairings, perfect for fans of Irish brews and festivities.
  • Maple Leaf Adventures – Craft Beer & Culinary Cruise (British Columbia): Discover the flavors of the Pacific Northwest with brewery tours, tastings, and food pairings designed to complement each brew.
  • Holland America – Experience Oktoberfest: Bring the Bavarian festival to the ocean with themed events, authentic brews, and traditional Oktoberfest fun.

Brews for Your Cruise

For those ships without their own brewhouse, the taproom experience continues with cruise lines that pour standout small-batch or limited-availability favorites specific to that ship or brand.

Aside from the brewed-on-board flavors, Guests sailing on MSC World America can also enjoy an authentic taste of its home port of Miami with special selections from South Florida’s celebrated Cerveceria La Tropical. Originally Cuba’s oldest brewery (established in 1888), La Tropical was reimagined in Miami and serves the community – and the cruise line – with flavors reminiscent of the historic Cuban beer brand.

On the Carnival fleet, their brewed-aboard brands include the ParchedPig collection featuring a West Coast IPA, a Toasted Amber Ale and a Beach Lager as well as the ThirstyFrog Caribbean Wheat Ale. Canned and served as portable pints, these brews are available  across the Carnival fleet on ships without a brewhouse. As a special selection, Carnival also offers an exclusive tap of Heroes American Pale Ale, the refreshing, tropical salute to military personnel that supports Operation Homefront with a $1 donation for every pint they pour.

Royal Caribbean also boasts a private‐label beer collaboration, partnering with South Florida’s Funky Buddha Brewery. Their Chilla Thrilla, a blonde ale brewed with mango and guava flavors, was originally — and exclusively — available at CocoCay, their private island destination. After a short distribution issue during covid was resolved, the tropical brew became available aboard all US sailings as well as on the island port of call.

Virgin Voyages also has a real craft-beer presence with Cooperstown, New York’s Ommegang’s Virgin Craft Beer, an English pale ale that’s bright and citrusy. It gets a touch of herbal heat and spice from grains of paradise, a small reddish-brown seed in the ginger family originating from West Africa. The line also partnered with Miami’s much-missed Wynwood Brewing Company to produce their Stray the Course beer, another EPA now brewed by Veza Sur Brewing. This hoppy blend has some fun nuances of fruit and toffee and is found primarily at Virgin’s Draught Haus venue, but it’s also part of the line’s Rockstar-level in-room minibar.

NCL’s District Brew House, a craft-beer hall also created in partnership with Wynwood Brewing Company, features a rotating line-up of 24 draft beers and 50-plus bottled beers, many of them specialty craft brews, including a signature District Pale Ale available only on NCL ships. Pairing well with burgers, pizza, and wings, it’s known to be very drinkable and one of the best sellers on board. The Brew House also serves craft macro-brands like the Funky Buddha Hop Gun IPA and IPAs on tap from Dogfish Head Brewery.

The Microcation Trend

by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine January 7, 2026
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine

One of the newest trends travel experts are tracking is a rise in “microcations” — brief getaways of no more than three or four days.

If the pandemic years saw a rise in “staycations” (taking time off just to chill out at home), this newer vacation mode combines low-impact planning with the little pleasures of a temporary change in scenery.

One of the microcation pioneers has been Margaritaville at Sea, a cruise line born from a partnership between Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville resorts and Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line. The line specializes in short-duration cruises: 2- and 3-night cruises sailing from Palm Beach and 5- and 6-night itineraries sailing from Tampa.

Other microcations can consist of long weekends at spas, mountain cabins, or visits to nearby cities. The idea caught on with busy execs who can’t be out-of-pocket for a full week, and with families who find it hard to juggle schedules to maximize quality time.

The concept has grown legs … or wings … recently with Bahamasair offering nonstop flights from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to North Eleuthera (ELH) every Wednesday and Sunday over the holiday season for less than $320.

More airlines offer quick and affordable flights from Florida to other Bahamian destinations, including Nassau, Marsh Harbour, and Cat Island. Some are on major carriers, others are serviced by smaller or newer carriers like Western Air, Makers Air, and Tropic Airways.

“Microcations are having a major moment,” says Francisco Perdomo, of Finn Partners. “More people are prioritizing their budgets but still want a reset and change of scenery, and a bite-sized getaway provides the best of both worlds.”

Pros recommend looking for destinations with lots of things to do in easy reach of each other, picking a theme for your microcation activities (a museum crawl? a fishing weekend?), planning travel to maximize your daytime hours in your destination (if flying, landing late at night or early in the morning at an airport close to your hotel), consciously limiting your connectivity, and being open to spontaneous diversions. It’s a vacation, after all!

Steve Leland’s Suite Pleasures of Anantara

by Steve Leland January 6, 2026
written by Steve Leland

From the moment you arrive, Bangkok captivates you with a rhythm where frenetic energy meets Asian harmony. Sleek skyscrapers rise beside gold-tipped temples, while festive street life weaves everything together in a living tapestry of color, culture, and motion.

I’ve previously experienced the city on several occasions, each time exploring its storied markets and animated streets. This time, however, I surrendered to personalized indulgence with consecutive stays at two properties from the Anantara collection of ultra-luxe hotels and resorts.

For years, I had admired the brand from afar. As fortune would have it, a rare opening at both Anantara Riverside Bangkok and Anantara Siam Bangkok aligned perfectly with our brief five-day stay in Thailand.

For those unfamiliar with the Anantara brand, its name comes from the Sanskrit, meaning “without end,” an ethos that extends far beyond a beautifully appointed room in which to rest your head. Each property is thoughtfully designed to deliver authentic cultural experiences that reflect the spirit of its destination. Even before arrival, guests are invited to share their personal interests, allowing the team to curate and arrange cultural, culinary, and active experiences tailored to individual preferences.

Down By The Riverside

Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort Exterior View Drone |  Photo: Anantara

For our first three nights, we were embraced in the serenity of Anantara Riverside Bangkok. The resort occupies an enviable spot. Nestled amid lush tropical gardens along the gently lapping banks of the Chao Phraya River, it offers a sublime balance between calming retreat and adventurous exploration.

Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort Guest Room Deluxe River View Room | Photo: Anantara

Having flown in from a 10-day expedition in Indonesia, we decided to spend our first day surrendering to the resort’s secluded pool, swaddled in tropical foliage, surrounded by floating lotus flowers under sun filtered by swaying palms. Our agenda was to perfect the art of doing absolutely nothing. Mission accomplished!

RELATED: WHAT ARE THEY SNIFFING IN THAILAND?

With our mental reset complete, what could be more appropriate than a traditional Thai massage from the Anantara Spa. A short walk through a bamboo lined pathway led to this pleasure-infused sanctuary. Once I reclined, skilled hands worked in a slow, methodical rhythm, leaving my travel-worn muscles relaxed and ready for whatever would come next.

Taking the suggestion of the property’s very helpful concierge, we embarked on an easygoing river journey with the resort’s shuttle boat, delving head first into the heart of the city’s Chinatown.

Although Bangkok’s street-food scene holds undeniable appeal, nothing compares to the exquisite dining experience at Seen, the resort’s signature restaurant. Showcasing South American flavors crafted into plates of pure passion, it surpasses all expectations. The transition from culinary delight to late-night allure is seamless with a nightcap at Sin, the resort’s chic rooftop bar with views of the city’s spellbinding lights.

After a deeply satisfying night cocooned in a snuggly duvet, convincing the body to rise was a challenge. Still, the promise of fresh discoveries won out as we once again hopped aboard the complimentary river shuttle, gliding our way to Icon Siam Mall. Shopping rarely tops my travel wish list, but this destination truly earns its must-see status with over 7,000 shops and 100 restaurants.

Lunchtime arrived surprisingly quickly, and the midday meal at the resort’s Benihana proved to be an experience in itself, delivering far more than anything the brand back home has ever offered.

For a change of pace, the guidance of the concierge was invaluable; he arranged for a private driver to take us outside the city to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ayutthaya, a ruined city incorporating over a dozen magnificent temples. As one of Thailand’s true cultural gems, it provides a glimpse into the Siamese kingdom’s ancient history.

Siamese Luxury

Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel Exterior View Hotel Entrance | Photo: Anantara

After three dreamy days at the Riverside resort, we traded tranquility for urban elegance at Anantara Siam Bangkok. This ultra-luxe sanctuary captures the heartbeat of the modern city with traditional Thai charm. Outside, the pulse of Bangkok hums; inside a hushed elegance prevails. The lobby is more than a grand entrance. It’s a welcoming, convivial space, perfect for lingering over a coffee or indulging in a refined afternoon tea ceremony.

Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel Recreation facility | Photo: Anantara

The courtyard is the hotel’s undeniable showstopper, a lush, green space that brings the outdoors inside. Come morning, a sumptuous breakfast unfolds with casual charm beside koi ponds and waterfalls spilling into a gurgling stream. By evening, the mood shifts as lights twinkle, glasses clink, and the courtyard slips into the chic AQUA bar.

Three distinct doorways each lead to its own sublime culinary experience:

  • Free of guilt yet rich in flavor, Guilty artfully blends Indian, Mexican, and Mediterranean influences.
  • Step into the timeless ambience of Madison, where the enduring legacy of the iconic New York steakhouse is brought to life in the heart of Bangkok.
  • Completing this trifecta of gastronomic experiences, The Spice Market serves regional Thai favorites, thoughtfully reimagined with contemporary flair.

Yet despite these exceptional dining options, nothing surprised this wanna-be Italian more than lunch at Biscotti, the hotel’s Italian restaurant. Quite simply put, a standout experience.

Two nights barely scratch the surface here.

My initial Anantara experience stands apart, distinctly anti-chain, anti-same, and crafted for the well-traveled who appreciate originality and thoughtful luxury.

A Relaxing Port Stop at Resorts World Bimini Beach

by Julie Bouchner January 5, 2026
written by Julie Bouchner

Cruise days in port often come with a familiar challenge. You only have a limited amount of time at the destination, so it is important to choose an excursion that is easy to get to and allows you to actually enjoy the day without rushing. For my husband’s 30th birthday, we found the perfect solution at Resorts World Bimini Beach.

We were sailing with Celebrity Cruises alongside a few other couples and wanted a way to celebrate without overcomplicating the day. Resorts World Bimini Beach stood out as a destination that made logistics simple and the experience enjoyable.

Right after arriving in Bimini, we hopped on a complimentary trolley from the port that took us directly to the resort. Upon arrival, staff greeted us and escorted us straight to our cabana, setting the tone for a smooth and relaxed day.

The cabana served as our base. Located near the beach and pool, it offered a comfortable place to settle in between swims, meals, and drinks. We ordered food and beverages throughout the day and never felt rushed.

What made this experience work particularly well as a port stop was how effortless it felt. Transportation was easy, the setup was ready when we arrived, and the layout of the day allowed us to enjoy ourselves without watching the clock. Instead of feeling like a stop squeezed between schedules, it felt like a complete experience. The DJ and music added a fun energy to the day while still keeping the atmosphere easygoing.

Before we knew it, it was time to close out our tab and head back to the ship.

View from cabana | Photo: Julie Bouchner

For cruise travelers looking for a simple and enjoyable port day, Resorts World Bimini Beach offers an easy option. Everything from arrival to cabana was straightforward, allowing us to focus on enjoying the day.

I am often asked how to make a port day stand out. This visit to Resorts World Bimini Beach is now one I reference often. It offered an easy arrival, a comfortable place to settle in, and a day that was well worth stepping off the ship for.

Jill Whelan Christens Star Princess Tournament of Roses Float

by Julie Bouchner December 24, 2025
written by Julie Bouchner

Princess Cruises held a symbolic christening of its Rose Parade® float at Artistic Entertainment Services’ Pasadena facility, where the float was built. The ceremony followed maritime tradition with the breaking of a bottle of Pantalones Organic Tequila and marked the float’s introduction ahead of its New Year’s Day debut in the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Princess Cruises Celebration Ambassador Jill Whelan led the christening, saying, “I name this float Star Princess. May God bless her and all who cruise down Colorado Boulevard on her.”

The float is inspired by Princess Cruises’ newest ship, Star Princess, and its Sphere Class design. Featured elements include The Dome, a relaxation and entertainment space at the top of the ship, and the sphere-shaped Piazza at the ship’s center. The overall design reflects the experience of sailing Alaska’s Inside Passage and highlights the ship’s inaugural Alaska season in 2026.

RELATED: Princess Cruises’ Discovery Princess Named the “Coolest Way To See Alaska”

Steve Leland’s All Thai-ed Up with A Chef’s Tour

by Steve Leland December 18, 2025
written by Steve Leland

With Bangkok being the food paradise that it is, I had fully intended to eat my way through its streets. From humble food stalls to Michelin-starred dining, the choices are both endless and delightfully overwhelming — presenting a delicious dilemma: Where to begin? Past experience, however, guided me back to the experts at A Chef’s Tour, a company that has consistently satisfied my appetite for authenticity and genuine cultural immersion in the local dining scene.

Their Bangkok Backstreets journey is a deep dive into the origins of local cuisine, where bold, vibrant flavors burst from every plate. This procession of street-food classics goes far beyond the expected pad Thai and curries, revealing dishes and stories that define the soul of the city after dark. Meeting up with our guide, Pang, in the heart of Bangkok’s Chinatown, she sketches out a loose itinerary of the city’s lesser-known food spots, places favored by locals rather than tourists.

BRING ON THE HEAT

Our first stop sets the tone: watching a humble sidewalk stall worker fry chive pancakes in a single wok, to later be paired with a simmering plate of stewed pork leg, glossy with sauce and served on a vinyl-covered table. Around us, the steady chatter of Bangkok locals provides the soundtrack that eases us into the night’s adventure.

Shifting toward more familiar flavors, we duck into a bustling side street where pork satay sizzles over hot coals. Each skewer is dipped into a rich, irresistible peanut sauce, perfectly complemented by a comforting bowl of Thai-style sukiyaki soup.

Slipping down a shadowed alleyway, Pang guides us to a hidden gem: a tiny, tucked-away café where shrimp dumplings reign supreme. The modest walls are adorned with photos of Thai royalty and celebrities who quietly frequent this culinary secret.

You might expect the ubiquitous pad Thai to make an appearance on a food tour, but why settle for the familiar on a journey of discovery? With a clever twist, we do make a stop at a family-run hole-in-the-wall where we savor green curry chicken served over fermented rice noodles, a flavor far removed from the ordinary.

The bustling streets are crowded with mobile kiosks offering all manner of mysterious dishes, but thanks to Pang, we avoid leaving our taste buds to luck. She leads us to a streetside table where we dive into a steaming bowl of crispy fried pork belly, tender and golden, nestled in a rich, flavorful broth.

Every culinary parade deserves a brief intermission, so we pause at an ice cream shop to refresh. Forget pistachio, vanilla, or chocolate; we’re here to discover the unexpected. A scoop of black soy-sauce ice cream surprisingly evokes the rich, sweet notes of salted caramel, a daring twist.

Far from over, it’s about time for main course action. Winding up a narrow staircase, we’re seated and immediately served a plate of gigantic prawns. Peeling into these marine crustaceans is only the beginning. Turning up the heat is a steaming hotpot of tom yum seafood soup packing the punch of chilies and lemon grass along with a side of morning-glory greens.

Just when your stomach signals “no vacancy,” another dessert is only a few steps away. Freshly fried Thai-style donuts are drizzled with a plant-based sweet paste and served alongside mango sticky rice. It’s the perfect moment to wave the gastronomic surrender flag. As if it were a national pastime, the streets are packed with locals and tourists, all indulging in everything imaginable.

PALATE CLEANSER

This marks our third experience with A Chef’s Tour, and it’s absolutely everything we’ve come to expect from the organization.

A Chef’s Tour offers food experiences in other major Asian cities — Chiang Mai, Hanoi, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Delhi, Mumbai, Yangon, Phuket, Penang, and Bali — plus Cairo and Marrakech in Africa and Bogota in Latin America, with plans to further expand globally.

A World of Wow: MSC Cruises Adds Ports to 2028 Global Adventure

by Porthole Cruise and Travel December 18, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

MSC Cruises has opened sales for its 2028 World Cruise, a 115-night voyage designed to tempt devoted cruise fans with a globe-spanning itinerary and a newly refurbished ship packed with upgraded amenities.

The sailing will take place aboard MSC Magnifica, which recently emerged from a major refit that added the exclusive MSC Yacht Club, the line’s ship-within-a-ship luxury concept. The upgrade brings enhanced suites, private dining, dedicated lounge and pool areas, and personalized service for guests seeking a more elevated experience on a long-haul voyage.

Departing from the Mediterranean in early January 2028, the itinerary spans multiple regions, carrying passengers through the Caribbean, the Pacific, Australasia, Asia, and the Arabian Peninsula before returning to Europe. The cruise also includes a full transit of the Panama Canal.

MSC said the 2028 sailing introduces seven new destinations to its world cruise portfolio. In the Pacific, the ship will call at Nuku’alofa, Tonga, offering access to Polynesian culture, beaches, and island traditions. Along South America’s coast, Manta, Ecuador adds a stop tied to maritime heritage and seafood traditions, with excursions to Montecristi, the birthplace of Panama hats.

Further south, Arica, Chile becomes the northernmost Chilean port on the itinerary, set amid desert landscapes near archaeological sites linked to ancient Andean civilizations. Callao, Peru, the historic port of Lima, offers access to the capital’s architecture and internationally recognized culinary scene.

New Southeast Asia ports include Chan May, Vietnam, a gateway to the former imperial city of Hue and the Hai Van Pass, and Sihanoukville, Cambodia, which serves as a coastal access point for excursions to cultural landmarks, including Angkor Wat. In the Caribbean, Grand Turk Island in the Turks and Caicos adds snorkeling and coral reef-diving opportunities.

The itinerary retains several fan-favorite destinations, including Hanga Roa on Easter Island, home to the UNESCO-listed moai statues, and Puerto Limón, Costa Rica, a jumping-off point for rainforest excursions and the Tortuguero Canals.

Guests can join the voyage from four Mediterranean embarkation ports: Civitavecchia, Italy, on Jan. 4; Genoa, Italy, on Jan. 5; Marseille, France, on Jan. 6; or Barcelona, Spain, on Jan. 7.

The cruise fare includes 15 shore excursions, a beverage package covering house wine and beer during meals, and discounted laundry service. Members of the MSC Voyager Club at Classic level and above receive a 5 percent booking discount, along with triple loyalty points credited before departure.

For world-cruise enthusiasts, MSC’s latest offering blends long-distance adventure with refreshed onboard luxury, promising a journey as memorable as the destinations themselves.

Regent Seven Seas Charts New Course with First Winter Med Season

by Porthole Cruise and Travel December 18, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Regent Seven Seas Cruises has announced a new collection of global voyages for Seven Seas Navigator, marking the luxury cruise line’s first full winter season in the Mediterranean and an expanded slate of long-distance sailings spanning five continents.

The 32 new itineraries will operate between Nov. 1, 2026, and Nov. 20, 2027, with voyages ranging from nine to 27 nights. The schedule introduces winter sailings in the Mediterranean — a first for the ultra-luxury brand — followed by extended journeys through Africa, Asia, Australia and the South Pacific.

Regent officials said the winter Mediterranean season is designed to offer travelers a quieter, more immersive experience in iconic destinations, with fewer crowds and cooler temperatures. Ports of call include cities in Italy, Malta, Tunisia, France, Spain and Greece, allowing guests to explore historic neighborhoods, museums and regional cuisine at a more relaxed pace.

“The launch of this new season marks an exciting evolution for Seven Seas Navigator and for Regent,” said Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “From quieter winters in the Mediterranean’s most beloved destinations to adventures in the Asia-Pacific and rare overnight stays in iconic ports of call, this collection reflects our commitment to delivering immersive and effortlessly luxurious travel experiences.”

Following a scheduled dry dock in late 2026 in Genoa, Italy, Seven Seas Navigator will reenter service as an intimate, all-suite vessel accommodating 496 guests. The ship features 244 suites and a crew of 365, offering a high staff-to-guest ratio. Onboard amenities include multiple lounges and bars, Italian marble finishes, crystal chandeliers, contemporary artwork and specialty dining venues such as Compass Rose, Prime 7, and Sette Mari at La Veranda.

Among the highlighted sailings is a 10-night voyage from Rome to Barcelona beginning Nov. 1, 2026, launching the winter Mediterranean season. A 14-night Eastern Mediterranean cruise from Istanbul to Athens in January 2027 includes overnight stays in Cyprus and Egypt. In February 2027, a 25-night transcontinental voyage will sail from Lisbon to Cape Town, tracing Africa’s Atlantic coast.

Later itineraries include a 12-night round-trip cruise from Tokyo in April 2027, a 10-night South Pacific sailing round-trip from Lautoka, Fiji, in August, and a 14-night journey from Sydney to Bali in September.

Regent’s voyages are marketed as all-inclusive, with fares covering shore excursions, dining, beverages, gratuities, Wi-Fi and onboard amenities, with optional upgrades that include air travel and private transfers.

Windstar Cruises Launches Richest Wave Season Offer in Company History

by Porthole Cruise and Travel December 17, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Windstar Cruises has launched what it is calling the richest Wave Season promotion in the company’s history, rolling out a value-driven offer aimed at boosting bookings for 2026 and beyond.

The promotion, called “Beyond Inclusive,” runs from Dec. 17, 2025, through March 31, 2026, and applies to select voyages departing through March 31, 2027. Windstar said the limited-time offer is designed to appeal to cruise fans looking for strong value while giving travel advisors added tools to close sales.

The Wave Season package includes a complimentary all-inclusive upgrade covering select beverages, Wi-Fi, and gratuities, valued at up to $99 per guest per night. Guests booking eligible sailings also receive a free pre-cruise hotel night, where available, hotel-to-yacht transfers, and up to $1,000 in onboard credit per guest. No promotional code is required, and the offer automatically applies when qualifying voyages are viewed.

“This is one of the strongest value-driven promotions we’ve ever created,” said Janet Bava, chief commercial officer for Windstar Cruises. “Especially for guests considering small-ship luxury for the first time.”

Windstar operates a fleet of small ships carrying between 148 and 342 guests, a size that appeals to travelers seeking a more intimate experience, personalized service, and destination-focused itineraries. The cruise line has built its reputation on combining yacht-style cruising with year-round value, recently earning recognition from our Readers’ Choice Awards as the Most Romantic Cruise Line.

The Wave Season offer applies across many of Windstar’s most popular regions. In Europe, the line sails year-round, including Local Season Mediterranean voyages during late fall, winter, and early spring, when ports are typically less crowded. In Tahiti, Windstar draws on nearly four decades of experience in the region, offering itineraries that emphasize cultural immersion and natural history. Other eligible destinations include Costa Rica and the Panama Canal, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

Windstar offers two distinct styles of ships: Wind-class sailing yachts and Star-class all-suite motor yachts. The fleet is set to expand with the addition of two new Star-class vessels. Star Seeker is scheduled to debut Dec. 28, 2025, followed by Star Explorer on Dec. 28, 2026. Both ships will feature new suite categories and a modernized design.

Windstar said the combination of onboard amenities, pre-cruise benefits, and onboard credit makes the Wave Season promotion one of its most compelling value propositions to date.
