PortMiami Posts Record Cruise Passenger Numbers and Cargo Growth

by Porthole Cruise and Travel December 2, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

PortMiami had a strong year in Fiscal Year 2025, from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025, with record cruise passenger numbers and steady cargo growth. The port welcomed 8,564,225 cruise passengers, up 4 percent from 8,233,056 the year before, the highest number ever. Cargo also grew, with 1,115,058 TEUs handled, a 2.35 percent increase, marking the 11th year in a row the port moved more than one million TEUs.

“PortMiami’s achievements highlight its role as both a cruise and cargo powerhouse, contributing billions to the local economy while advancing a future-ready vision of innovation, resiliency, and global connectivity,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Through strategic investments in infrastructure and technology, the port is improving operational efficiency and ensuring long-term competitiveness.”

Hydi Webb, PortMiami Director and CEO, added, “These results reflect the dedication of our team and the strength of our partnerships with the cruise industry, cargo carriers, and the business community. As we expand and modernize our facilities, our focus remains on safe, efficient, and resilient operations that support Miami-Dade County’s economic growth and strengthen our position as a global gateway for travel and trade.”

The 2025-2026 cruise season will bring several new ships to PortMiami, including Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth and Virgin Voyages’ Brilliant Lady in October, Holland America’s Zuiderdam and Oceania Cruises’ Allura in November, MSC Cruises’ Grandiosa in December, Windstar Cruises’ Star Seeker in January 2026, Holland America’s Eurodam in February, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Luna in March, and Silversea Cruises’ Silver Nova in May.

PortMiami’s cargo growth is supported by upgrades to its facilities, including faster and more efficient container handling. The South Florida Container Terminal now has 18 Electric Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes, allowing higher stacking and quicker yard operations. Work is also ongoing at the Seaboard Marine yard to improve drainage and berths.

With new ships and continued upgrades, PortMiami is ready for more growth in cruise travel and cargo in 2026, maintaining its role as a major gateway for global travel and trade.

Aqua, Aqua Everywhere

by John Roberts December 2, 2025
written by John Roberts

Norwegian Aqua, the new resort-style ship from Norwegian Cruise Line, made its debut in Lisbon in mid-March. The new vessel is an enhanced version of sister ships Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva.

These Prima-class ships created considerable buzz when Prima launched in August 2022 and Viva joined a year later. They’re attractive because of the creative use of space that allows cruisers to enjoy a variety of experiences smartly placed throughout the ship while never feeling crowded.

Norwegian Aqua features a handful of new amenities and attractions that elevates this class even more, making it the first in what’s called the “Prima Plus” class for NCL.

Never a Dull Moment

The best part is all the exciting things you can do on board, making it popular for cruisers who think of the ship as a destination itself  —  ideal for a day at sea.

Tops on my list is the new Aqua Slidecoaster hybrid waterslide/rollercoaster, the first of its kind at sea. Even with the unseasonably windy and overcast conditions at the top of the ship creating less-than-ideal scenario for a waterslide outing, I braved a long line of cruisers waiting to try the Aqua Slidecoaster for the first time.

I stepped into the raft and was launched by a catapult up an inclined ramp and into the long tunnel filled with a swirl of lights. After the initial rush up the slope, it’s a gentle ride around the top of the ship and back down to the starting point.

The Slidecoaster is a thrilling and refreshing ride ideal for hot and sunny days in the Caribbean. This included attraction replaces the go-kart race tracks you’ll find on other NCL cruise ships.

Norwegian Aqua is packed with cool stuff that gives travelers a vacation that feels as if you’re at a floating boutique resort rather than on a megaship. You can find foods to satisfy any cravings, all kinds of games, activities and shows, and, of course, the relaxing spa and pool areas you would expect on a cruise voyage.

Also, at the top of the ship, you’ll find the Stadium with games like Ping-Pong, table shuffleboard, the Tee Time interactive and tech-immersive miniature golf course, and the Bull’s Eye Bar (complete with dartboards) at the back of the ship. The space includes a dedicated pickleball court, too.

Another new attraction great for families with kids is the Glow Court. This is a fun, interactive-LED sports court that features a variety of games such as basketball and soccer, as well as an interactive dance floor that transforms into a lively nightclub.

My wife and I tried some of the sports competitions one morning, and it was way more fun than I expected as our competitive natures kicked in.

Thrill-seekers can try The Drop dry slide, which does just what the name suggests, dropping riders from Deck 18 to a landing zone on Deck 8’s Ocean Boulevard promenade.

The fun doesn’t stop there  —  not even close.

Aqua Game Zone, a large indoor facility on Deck 17, is the ultimate hangout for gamers who can pick from an enticing mix of virtual reality and classic arcade games, as well as racing simulators and activities like Skee-Ball. This vibrant venue features free games and some that require a fee.

Blessed Relaxation

Cruisers love their down time to relax and rejuvenate, of course. Norwegian Aqua offers a few areas to seek out for quality pool time. The ship’s innovative Ocean Boulevard (the venue- and activity-filled promenade that encircles Deck 8) has two Infinity Beach pool areas, one on each side of the ship. You can settle into the refreshing pools, hit the hot tubs, or hang out in a sun lounger.

The best part of spending time here is that you are close to the Soleil Bar at the aft of the ship, as well as a variety of eateries with indoor and outdoor seating options that connect to the stylish promenade. So, you can chill out by the pool and easily pop over to the bar for a cocktail or into Indulge Food Hall or The Local Bar & Grill for lunch.

Indulge offers an exciting variety of foods, ordered from a tablet at your table and delivered quickly from stations. You can pick a range of international flavors, as the venue has kiosks serving Texas barbecue (Q Texas Smokehouse), Indian (Tamara), plant-based dishes (Planterie), Asian (Noodles), and Spanish bites (Tapas food truck). This is just one of more than a dozen eateries on board … more on that in a bit.

Vibe Beach Club is an adults-only area with loungers, a bar and two large infinity-style hot tubs off each side of the ship. This appeals to people who want a more chill spot to hang out, where you can guarantee yourself a lounge chair, more attentive service and some quiet time (priced around $229 for a weeklong pass).

The Lido Deck pool  —  which is noticeably bigger than on Viva and Prima  —  offers an LED big-screen (for showing sports and movies), Waves Pool Bar, and two infinity hot tubs. This popular spot is just outside the ship’s Surfside Cafe buffet eatery. The Aqua Park, perfect fun for families with kids who would love to splash around on a sunny day, is one deck up.

The ultimate way to relax, though, is with a spa treatment and/or securing a thermal suite pass at Mandara Spa. The thermal suite has a beautiful relaxation area with panoramic sea views, Vitality Pool, and Flotation Salt Pool, as well as a variety of sauna rooms.

Dinners and Shows

In addition to all these fab ways to spend your day on board, nighttime is the right time for delicious dinners and lively entertainment. Aqua offers specialty restaurants Onda by Scarpetta (Italian), Cagney’s Steakhouse, Palomar (Mediterranean), Nama Sushi & Sashimi, Hasuki (teppanyaki), and a new Thai restaurant concept called Sukhothai.

Then, you’ll have the chance to enjoy the brilliant show Revolution: A Celebration of Prince at the ship’s dynamic Aqua Theater & Club, or any number of live music performances at bars such as Syd Norman’s Pour House, Penrose Bar, Whiskey Bar, Swirl Wine Bar, and Metropolitan, where you can try the tasty sustainable craft cocktails and biodynamic wine offerings.

It’s stunning how much Norwegian Aqua has to offer, with so many experiences in thoughtfully designed spaces that never feel crowded.

The good news: NCL’s second Prima Plus–class ship, Norwegian Luna, is set to debut in April 2026.

MSC Foundation and UNICEF Launch Philippine Education Initiative

by Julie Bouchner December 1, 2025
written by Julie Bouchner

The MSC Foundation and UNICEF have announced the next phase of their 16-year partnership, which has contributed $17 million to date. The new initiative, The Learning Bridge, will support about 400,000 children in the Philippines over the next three years.

The program focuses on Mindanao, where poverty, past conflicts, and the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in some of the lowest school enrollment and literacy rates in the country. Ongoing challenges, including extreme weather, limited resources, and a shortage of qualified teachers, continue to widen the learning gap.

The Learning Bridge introduces innovative solutions, from new teaching methods to a floating school that keeps education going for an indigenous community during floods. The program aims to improve both foundational and socio-emotional learning for children and adolescents across the region.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of the MSC Group’s Cruise Division and Chair of the MSC Foundation Executive Committee, said:”Our relationship with UNICEF began more than 16 years ago and shaped the MSC Foundation when it was founded in 2018. Together, we have shown how innovation rooted in shared purpose can transform children’s lives. This new program in the Philippines is especially meaningful because many MSC employees and crew come from this country, reflecting both our partnership with UNICEF and our support for the communities our people call home.”

The program will strengthen disaster preparedness, expand digital learning, and provide resources for regional initiatives. In Caraga, a climate-smart floating school will keep children learning during floods, with teachers trained in targeted learning recovery. In BARMM, the focus is on early childhood education, play-based learning, and teacher training to improve school readiness, enrollment, and basic literacy and numeracy. The program is designed to be sustainable and scalable nationwide.

By building resilient educational systems and equipping children with essential skills, The Learning Bridge aligns with the Philippines’ National Development Plan and promotes lifelong learning. The partnership shows how the private sector can support government and UNICEF efforts to drive long-term social and economic progress.

Kitty Van der Heijden, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director, said: “Education is crucial for children to break cycles of inequality and poverty and build brighter futures. We are grateful for the MSC Foundation’s renewed support, which will help us deliver innovative and scalable solutions to improve access to quality education, including for children on the frontline of the climate crisis.”

UNICEF does not endorse any company, brand, product, or service.

Century Star, the newest ship in Century Cruises’ fleet, will begin sailing the Danube River on September 18, 2026. This follows the company’s recent growth, which includes four eco-friendly ships built over the past four years.

About Century Star

The ship features hybrid propulsion, a hull made from recycled steel, and meets EU sustainability standards aimed at net-zero carbon performance. Century Star is the result of a global collaboration combining Chinese leadership with Western shipbuilding, with its hull designed by Concordia Damen Shipbuilding.

The interiors, designed by MDesigns, are inspired by regions along the Danube:

  • Main Restaurant: Inspired by the Black Forest, named a CSI Awards 2025 Finalist for Concept of the Year

  • Bar and Lounge: Baroque elements and the musical heritage of Beethoven and Strauss

  • Lobby: Influenced by Bulgaria’s Rose Valley

  • Cabins: Comfortable, home-like feel with subtle regional details

Inaugural Blue Danube Cruise

The first sailing departs Budapest on September 18, 2026, and visits Esztergom, Bratislava, Vienna, Linz, and Passau. The eight-day voyage includes guided local experiences, port-to-landmark transportation, European dining, history lectures, and wellness activities such as Tai Chi and Yoga.

A second itinerary from Amsterdam to Basel will launch on the Rhine.

Leadership Perspective

Mr. David Fredericks, President and General Manager of The Americas, said, “Century Star, the first of many vessels planned for the Danube and Rhine, is a testament to the vision set by Chairman Mr. Peng 30 years ago on the banks of the Yangtze River. Through dedication and hard work, we have reached the heart of Europe, and we are incredibly proud. This is where Eastern elegance and hospitality meet Western style on the Danube River. Our maiden voyage is scheduled for September 18, 2026, on the Danube, and we eagerly look forward to introducing a Rhine itinerary on November 6, 2026. We are also excited about launching our vessels on the Nile in Egypt in 2027. The future of cruising is bright with Century Cruises.”

Be Unique Returns to ILTM: Where Italy Becomes an Experience

by Bill Panoff December 1, 2025
written by Bill Panoff

Italy is back at ILTM Cannes 2025 and it’s making noise. The acclaimed “Be Unique” pop-up is returning to the Croisette this December, once again turning Italy’s signature luxury style into a sensory experience no delegate can ignore.

Running Monday, December 1 through Thursday, December 4 at 2 Boulevard de la Croisette, the activation promises what ILTM insiders already know: this is not a booth. It is a full Italian immersion that blends culinary moments, cultural touchpoints, and a private clubhouse atmosphere.

Last year it became one of the most talked-about off Palais experiences. This year the team is raising the bar with the rallying cry “We did it… AGAIN!”

Expect chef crafted regional dishes, afternoon escapes, and intimate pre party dinners designed to cut through the ILTM chaos. Lunch sessions (13:00 to 14:30) give delegates a chance to reset, step away from the meetings, grab Italy by the fork, and recharge. Evenings transform the space into a high end Italian pregame built around one promise: “Come hungry. Leave Italian.”

Where Luxury Is Not a Limit® is more than a tagline. It is the operating system. The Be Unique team is positioning the pop up as the place for real conversations, real food, and real connection during the industry’s busiest week.

No lines. No noise. No FOMO unless you miss it.

Located directly across from the main ILTM pavilion, this Italian takeover is ready to steal the spotlight once again.

Setting Sail from Belém

by Steve Leland November 24, 2025
written by Steve Leland

Few European ports offer a more rewarding introduction than Lisbon. Before boarding Azamara Onward for a 14-day trans-Atlantic crossing, the city revealed itself in full autumn charm. We were welcomed by a cool November day, golden-hued hills, the tiled facades of buildings, and the silhouettes of ancient fortifications. I’d stayed downtown on previous visits, but this time we sampled the slower-paced neighborhood of Belém, a district steeped in history and quiet elegance.

With only 24 hours to spare, choosing where to stay shapes the tone of the entire visit. Lisbon offers everything from ultra-luxury icons to humble hostels, but seasoned travelers know that location is everything and few properties combine setting and sophistication with the effortless grace of Palácio do Governador, a five-star boutique hotel that feels like a whispered secret within the city.

Tucked into a serene pocket of Belém, the Palácio occupies a position where history, tranquility, and riverside charm converge. Approaching the hotel feels like stepping into an indulgent private world: centuries-old stone walls and manicured courtyards open into contemporary interiors grafted seamlessly into the bones of a former governor’s residence. Inside, soft lighting, polished textures, and a gentle hush encourage guests to slow down, breathe, and settle into the seductive rhythm of boutique luxury.

Luxury Lisbon Hotel - Palacio do Governador

Palacio do Governador | Photo: Palácio do Governador

Just steps from the Tagus River, the hotel is cooled by a salt-tinged breeze and warmed with an unmistakable glow of luxury, making it not only the perfect base for exploring Belém, but the ideal pre- or post-cruise sanctuary where Lisbon’s beauty feels close enough to touch.

Belém, a storied district on the banks of the Tagus River, is where Lisbon’s maritime soul feels most alive. This is the neighborhood that launched explorers toward the edges of the known world, including Vasco da Gama himself in 1497, and today it remains one of the city’s richest cultural enclaves.

Visitors can wander between two UNESCO World Heritage Sites — the ornate, river-facing Belém Tower and the magnificent Jerónimos Monastery, a masterpiece of Manueline architecture built to honor Portugal’s Age of Discovery. Just steps away, the Monument to the Discoveries offers sweeping views from its rooftop, while the waterfront promenade encourages an unhurried amble to take it all in.

Monument to the Discoveries | Photo: Steve Leland

And no visit is complete without a stop at Pastéis de Belém, where the original pastel de nata custard tarts have been baked to golden perfection since 1837.

Blessed with history, beauty, and irresistible treats, Belém serves them all in one easy-to-explore district.

Bartolomeu Bar | Photo: Steve Leland

After a leisurely Sunday stroll, we capped off our stay with dinner in the hotel’s elegantly appointed Bartolomeu Bar. Wrapped in décor that could make any interior designer swoon, we settled into a space where every detail radiated Old World charm. The menu leans into regional flavors with beautifully crafted entrées paired with a velvety Portuguese red wine that practically begged for slow sipping. And to sweeten the moment? A final flourish of local port wine and, naturally, a warm pastel de nata. A perfect ending, pure and simple.

For cruise visitors or anyone passing through, it’s the kind of place that doesn’t merely greet you, it cues up the upcoming journey, letting you taste, feel, and savor the promise of what’s to come.

A World Beyond All Expectations

by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine November 19, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine

“Return! Come back, now!” our guide shouts behind us, with panic in his voice. Oh dear. Suddenly, I see not one, not two, but three gigantic whales surrounding us. They lift their heads above the surface and then disappear — in my direction — diving right underneath me. My heart skips a beat. I scan the water beside me nervously: Where did they go? Then another one surfaces on my other side, its enormous tail nearly brushing my paddle. It’s so close I could touch it. Wow. Holy moly. Is this really happening?

“Go báck!” he screams again — but just then I spot a whale right behind me, leaving me nowhere to go. If I start paddling backward now and this giant unexpectedly surfaces, I’ll be launched 30 feet into the air. These creatures are up to 50 feet long and weigh 30 tons — I’m the weight of a fruit fly in my kayak by comparison. Okay then, I’ll stay put, surrender, and hope for the best.

Now that I’ve laid down my paddle and am sitting completely still, I can finally grasp how extraordinary this moment truly is. My breath, which moments ago was stuck high in my throat, slowly begins to settle. I stare in awe at the majestic, playful animals, who seem as curious about us as we are about them. They swim gracefully alongside the kayaks, make elegant movements, twirl their massive tails in the air, and glide silently beneath us again. These gentle giants are so composed, they don’t even cause a ripple in the water. They stay with us for a full hour. A surreal, magical encounter.

The End of the World

Every time I think this trip can’t possibly get more incredible, it does. Before I left, I had no real idea what to expect: Antarctica. Ice. Lots of ice. Cold. Snow. A rough sea. But what else?

This seventh continent is one of the most unknown, untouched places on Earth; a white, frozen realm ruled by nature and the elements, home to millions of penguins, seals, birds, and whales — and where humans are nothing more than humble, fleeting visitors.

And that’s exactly how I feel, constantly. It’s hard to believe it’s only been a week and a half since I boarded the French expedition ship Le Boréal in Ushuaia — the southernmost city in the world, also known as “the end of the world.” Even the departure felt momentous: standing at the very edge of the map, preparing to go even further. As we left the harbor and headed into the open sea, the realization sank in: This is the last scrap of civilization I’ll see for weeks. A completely surreal thought.

The first leg is the voyage to South Georgia: three-and-a-half days at sea. Thankfully, the start of the trip is smooth. The days on board are filled with fascinating lectures by the expedition team — about South Georgia’s wildlife, the formation of glaciers, the first polar explorers, and more. Documentaries about the region are shown, and we attend briefings that explain the strict guidelines designed to minimize human impact on nature.

Kingdom of Penguins

“Welcome to South Georgia!” the captain cheerfully announces over the intercom the next morning. When I excitedly pull open my curtain, it’s finally happening: land in sight! And not just any land. This glacier-covered island, with its steep cliffs, is one of the most remote and pristine nature reserves in the world — a true paradise for nature lovers.

Here lives the world’s largest colony of king penguins, along with macaroni, chinstrap, and gentoo penguins. The island is also home to elephant seals, fur seals, sea lions, whales, orcas, and birds such as the wandering albatross, snow petrel, and the South Georgia pipit — the southernmost songbird on Earth.

Then, for the first time, the Zodiac boats are lowered from the ship and we’re allowed to set foot on land. The first stop: Grytviken Bay. Once the heart of the whaling industry, this was where an estimated 175,000 whales were slaughtered between 1900 and 1965. The rusty remnants of the old whaling station and shipwrecks contrast sharply with the icy mountains behind them.

The next day is one of the absolute highlights of the journey: St. Andrews Bay. In this remote bay live over 300,000 king penguins in a single place. As soon as I step off the Zodiac, it feels as if I’ve walked straight into a wildlife documentary. All my senses are instantly….

Inuit Cool

by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine November 17, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine

Maybe it’s the stark contrasts of the icy north. Maybe it’s the long cultural continuity with old ways of seeing the world. Maybe it’s just the long winter nights. Whatever the reason, a wave of creation is coming out of studios in Canada, Greenland, Alaska, and Siberia.

ISAKSEN DESIGN

Greenlandic designer Niki Isaksen is the genius behind the Isaksen fashion brand. Born in Paamiut, raised in Nuuk, and educated at the London College of Fashion, she brings a global sensibility and spiritual inspiration to her sustainable, handmade designs. Stark reds, whites, and blacks combine in patterns pleasing to the eye: an abstract kayak, an ice-floe geometry, a polar bear line drawing. Some are simple, unadorned, and elegant.

INUK 360

Inuk is a designer, educator, master caribou-hair tufter, and sustainable-fur advocate in Yellowknife, the capital of Canada’s Northwest Territories. Her wearable artwork can include driftwood her mother gathered from the shores of the Mackenzie River or antlers from animals her brother hunts to feed his family.

HINAANI

An artists’ collective from the Kivalliq region of Nunavut, “Hinaani” means “the ice floe’s edge,” and creators here love being ahead of the pack. Lead designer Nooks Lindell makes clothing, handicrafts, and graphic art with a focus on reclaimed materials and finding intersections between traditional culture and modern life.

THIRD GENERATION ART

Golga Oscar, a fluent Yup’ik speaker, uses skills in photography and sewing as a way to keep his language and culture alive for future generations. All the elements used are 100 percent natural, including “revitalized” ancestral artwork that mix contemporary materials with traditional pieces. He uses authentic Yup’ik skills to create something never seen before.

Port of Québec Completes First Year as Year-Round Cruise Port

by Porthole Cruise and Travel November 17, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

In 2025, the Port of Québec hosted cruise ships across nearly the entire year, from late January through early November, showcasing its ability to operate in all seasons. Cruise calls occurred almost every month, reinforcing the city’s position as a year-round travel destination.

The season welcomed close to 140,000 passengers on 103 ship visits, representing 35 vessels from 22 cruise lines. Québec also served as the first or final stop for 21 cruises, reflecting strong confidence from cruise operators in the port’s services and experience.

“This first cruise season to stretch from the depths of winter to the peak of fall reflects the transformation of the Port of Québec,” said Olga Farman, CEO, Port of Québec. “By spreading the season out, we’re showing that our Port can be a major contributor to the development of winter tourism in the Capitale Nationale. Together, with our partners and teams, we’re shaping a port that lives up to our vision for Québec City: ambitious, with our eyes firmly on the horizon.”

Winter Season Kicks Off with Polar Highlight

The season opened in January with the polar icebreaker Ponant Commandant Charcot, giving passengers a rare winter perspective of Québec City. The ship is confirmed to return in 2027, reflecting strong partnerships and growing interest in winter cruising.

New Ships Make Their Debut

Virgin Voyages introduced its newest ship, Brilliant Lady, to Québec City, joined by first-time visits from Celebrity Silhouette, Seven Seas Splendor, Oceania Cruises’ Allura, and Princess Cruises’ Majestic Princess, demonstrating the city’s rising appeal to major cruise lines.

Québec Recognized Globally

For the third consecutive year, Québec City was named Best Canada/New England Cruise Destination in Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine’s Reader Choice Award, highlighting its stunning scenery and welcoming atmosphere.

Cruise Industry Boosts Local Economy

International cruises drive significant economic benefits for the Capitale-Nationale region, generating $172 million in 2024. Beyond direct spending, the industry supports the local supply chain.

“This first year -round cruise season was made possible by industry players working together to make tourism development more balanced and productive for the region,” said Lucie Charland, Chair of the Board of Destination Québec cité. “By spreading calls over the year, we are not only encouraging more stable economic spin-offs for our local businesses but also creating a better experience for visitors and residents alike. This 360° approach, built on collaboration and responsible performance, established Québec City as a premier destination on the St. Lawrence. ”

Next Generation Gets Onboard

The Port welcomed transportation and tourism students, offering behind-the-scenes tours of operations and docked ships, strengthening connections between education and the cruise industry.

Holland America Line Debuts New “Fosse and Verdon” Show on Koningsdam

by Porthole Cruise and Travel November 17, 2025
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Holland America Line has introduced a new show that’s already generating a lot of buzz on board. “Fosse and Verdon, The Duet That Changed Broadway” made its debut on Koningsdam last weekend, marking the first time guests can see this exclusive production at sea. Produced in partnership with RWS Global and reconstructed by The Verdon Fosse Legacy, the show brings an all-new live musical and multimedia tribute to the groundbreaking work of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon.

Staged in the World Stage theater, the 45-minute production uses 270-degree surround screens to display archival letters, audio, and footage while a cast of 12 performs musical numbers inspired by Fosse’s original choreography. The show features music from “Sweet Charity,” “Liza with a Z,” “Cabaret,” “Chicago,” and more, with live vocals from the cast.

“After months of collaboration and anticipation, it’s exciting to finally see ‘Fosse and Verdon, The Duet That Changed Broadway’ take the stage, creating a breathtaking fusion of Broadway and innovation at sea,” said Joe Chantry, vice president of entertainment and enrichment for Holland America Line. “It is an honor to share the artistry and legacy of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon with our guests in such an immersive, one-of-a-kind experience.”

The show also marks the start of an expanded partnership between RWS Global and The Verdon Fosse Legacy®, which has granted RWS Global exclusive rights to develop new performances inspired by Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon. Holland America Line will hold exclusive cruise rights to these productions for the next five years.

“The idea for this show started after conversations with Noah Fosse about how we could bring his family’s work to new audiences,” said Craig Laurie, Chief Creative Officer at RWS Global. “Because we work extensively in the cruise industry, a shipboard production was a natural direction, and Holland America Line was the right partner. Over the past six months, our team developed a documentary-style experience that combines Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon’s personal and professional stories, supported by never-before-seen memorabilia from the Fosse family. Our goal was to create a show that reflects their style and the partnership behind their work.”

Koningsdam is currently the only ship featuring the new production. Guests on board will also find a curated lineup of films on in-stateroom televisions showcasing Fosse’s work as a director, choreographer, or performer, including “Cabaret,” “Chicago,” “The Pajama Game,” and more.

As the partnership continues, additional entertainment offerings inspired by Fosse and Verdon are expected to roll out, expanding Holland America Line’s commitment to bringing world-class stage productions to sea.

Will you be sailing aboard Koningsdam to see this new production? Let us know in the comments!
