Ilma Welcomes Johanna Ortiz for Limited-Time Yacht Takeover

by Julie Bouchner February 17, 2026
written by Julie Bouchner

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is partnering with Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz for an exclusive collaboration, debuting February 17 aboard Ilma. Running from Ilma’s Winter 2026 Caribbean season through Summer 2026 in the Mediterranean, Decks 9 and 10 feature Ortiz’s prints and craftsmanship.

“Johanna Ortiz brings an unmistakable point of view that embodies culture, emotion, and beauty in motion,” said Gaby Aiguesvives, Chief Marketing Officer of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. “The brand’s vision aligns naturally with how we curate our voyages, where thoughtful design and storytelling enhance every moment on board. This collaboration invites guests to experience life at sea through a fashion-led lens that feels effortless and authentic.”

The takeover features Ortiz’s Tropical Exuberance prints, inspired by Caribbean flora and her signature sailing rope motif. Decks 9 and 10 showcase La Rumba and La Siesta: Deck 10 brings deep blues to the pool and bar, while Deck 9 uses tropical greens for a calm lounge. Bars offer cocktails and mocktails inspired by Ortiz’s favorite botanicals and fruits, and the onboard boutique carries a curated selection of her ready-to-wear.

“La Rumba and La Siesta reflect two moods I love when I travel, moments of celebration and moments of pause,” said Johanna Ortiz. “Both are deeply connected to nature, craftsmanship, and the joy of living life.”

The collaboration reflects Ortiz’s love of exploration and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s focus on connection and discovery, balancing social spaces with moments of pause.

“This collaboration speaks to a shared way of living. A community that embraces travel as a journey of discovery, where nature, connection, and the pleasure of being present come together in the decks of Ilma,” said Ortiz.

written by Julie Bouchner

Today, Brightline unveiled its Freedom Express train, featuring a new exterior design in partnership with America250, the nonpartisan organization leading the nation’s 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The 10‑coach Freedom Express is wrapped in a bold, patriotic design, with each coach representing a defining moment in U.S. history:

The Signing of the Declaration of Independence (1776): formally established the United States

Washington Crossing the Delaware (1776): boosted morale and helped turn the Revolutionary War

Lincoln at Gettysburg (1863): reshaped America’s commitment to equality and democracy

Golden Spike Ceremony (1869): completed the first transcontinental railroad

Statue of Liberty (1886): a symbol of freedom and welcome

Ellis Island Immigration (1892‑1954): millions of immigrants helped shape America

Wright Brothers’ First Flight (1903): marked the start of powered flight

Flag Raising at Iwo Jima (1945): symbolized sacrifice and victory in WWII

Martin Luther King Jr. at the Lincoln Memorial (1963):  a key moment in the Civil Rights Movement

Apollo 11 Moon Landing (1969): made the U.S. the first nation to land humans on the Moon

“America’s 250th anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on the moments that have shaped our nation and the people who continue to move it forward,” said Jen Condon, Executive Vice President at America250. “Brightline’s Freedom Express offers a compelling way to share that history with communities across Florida, and we’re proud to partner with them to commemorate this milestone.”

The Freedom Express will operate regularly through July 2026. The inaugural ride took place on Monday, Feb. 16, from Orlando to Miami, welcoming local community heroes, partners, and transportation advocates aboard.

Throughout the year, Brightline will partner with organizations celebrating America’s 250th, including HistoryMiami, which will give guests the chance to see the original Bill of Rights. More details are available at www.gobrightline.com/events/2026/america-250.

“Brightline is honored to help lead this national celebration and mark a pivotal moment in how America connects and moves,” said Patrick Goddard, CEO of Brightline Florida. “This is one of the most meaningful and visually powerful train wraps yet, and we’re proud to share it with communities across the state of Florida.”

Stay at Gale Miami Hotel Before Your PortMiami Cruise

by Bill Panoff February 16, 2026
    written by Bill Panoff

If you’re cruising out of PortMiami, staying close to the port the night before is one of the easiest ways to simplify your trip. Gale Miami Hotel & Residences offers a convenient Downtown location, modern accommodations, and easy access to both the cruise terminals and Miami’s top spots. The hotel is just steps from the new Miami Worldcenter for shopping, dining, and entertainment, two blocks from Brightline, and right at a Metromover stop that’s free and brings you to Brickell.

The hotel is located in Downtown Miami, just a short drive to PortMiami. On embarkation morning, that proximity makes a real difference. Instead of crossing the city or factoring in heavy traffic, you’re only minutes away from the terminals. You can wake up at a reasonable time, have breakfast, organize luggage, and head out without feeling rushed.

For travelers flying in the day before, this also provides peace of mind. If your flight arrives late or is delayed, you’re already positioned near the port and won’t need to navigate Miami first thing in the morning.

The hotel itself is modern and comfortable, with clean, spacious rooms that work well for couples, families, or small groups traveling together. There’s space to unpack, reorganize bags, and prepare for your cruise without feeling cramped.

Amenities include a rooftop pool with city views, on-site dining, and lounge areas. If you prefer to stay in after a travel day, you can relax at the property instead of searching for restaurants. At the same time, you’re steps away from plenty of dining options in Downtown.

Another advantage is the location. Bayside Marketplace is within walking distance, offering waterfront views, casual restaurants, and shops. Brickell is only a few minutes away and provides additional dining and nightlife options. If you arrive early, you can easily explore Miami without committing to a long commute across the city.

Transportation to PortMiami is simple, whether you use a rideshare service, private transfer, or hotel-arranged option. The short distance keeps transfer time and cost reasonable compared to staying farther out in areas like South Beach or Miami Beach.

For cruisers departing from PortMiami, Gale Miami Hotel & Residences offers a practical and well-located pre-cruise stay. It combines proximity to the port with access to Downtown attractions, making it easy to relax, explore, and prepare for embarkation day.

Staying at Gale Miami Hotel & Residences helps ensure your cruise begins smoothly, without unnecessary stress on the morning you set sail. Instead of rushing through traffic or worrying about timing, you can start the day calm, organized, and ready to board.

      Paddling with a Purpose

by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine February 11, 2026
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine

Under the bright Scandinavian sun, my family glided out onto the Copenhagen Harbour in our kayaks with a mission: to collect as much garbage as we could. Instead of renting boats to explore the city’s gorgeous canals, we spent a few hours giving back through GreenKayak.org, an environmental NGO that provides free two-person kayaks in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Germany in exchange for filling an onboard bucket with floating trash found during your paddling adventure.

The concept is simple yet brilliant: Enjoy a leisurely ride soaking up the city’s vibrant vibe while plucking debris with a long grabber tool along the way. Back at the dock, weigh your catch with a portable scale, register it in the GreenKayak app, and pose with your bounty for a social media send-off using #GreenKayak before tossing the trash in big bins — instead of it ending up clogging the ocean.

      Launching a movement

“The idea of giving people the opportunity to paddle for free in exchange for collecting trash came to me while I was out running,” explains GreenKayak’s founder, Tobias Weber-Andersen, a sea-kayaking instructor and former manager of the popular Kayak Bar restaurant who started cleaning up Copenhagen’s canals during private tours.

Frustrated to see trash reappearing every day, Weber-Andersen decided to think bigger: In April 2017, he introduced the first free kayak, originally called Miljøkajakken, which means “Environment Kayak.”

“It was an immediate success, which I honestly didn’t expect,” he recalls.

After adding two more kayaks, demand surged, with people booking weeks in advance. Then, on a surf trip, Weber-Andersen met Oke Carstensen, a business school graduate with start-up experience. Sharing a love for the ocean and convinced that local action could drive global change, the duo joined forces in 2018 to scale the organization into an international movement for cleaner water.

Since then, GreenKayak has worked with other NGOs and organizations in Denmark and across Europe, boosting ocean-friendly tourism and garnering international acclaim. In 2019, the organization received the Svend Auken Environmental Award, and it became a UNESCO Green Citizen project in 2020.

To date, 105,542 GreenKayak volunteers — half of them tourists — have removed 158 tons of waste from local waterways. GreenKayak is one of many voluntourism programs around the world tailored to travelers and cruisers of all ages. Beginners are welcome, and paddling is a family-friendly way to spend a port day.

      Small items, big impact

There are 68 GreenKayaks available at 41 locations in 19 cities, and they get snapped up fast so it’s best to book far in advance. We found it easy to book our water-based adventure through the GreenKayak app. We picked up our boats at Kayak Republic — one of 16 host locations on Copenhagen’s waterfront — where volunteers handed us life jackets and a map of the canals. They instructed us to stay near the shore away from boats.

“On average, each kayak collects three kilos (6.6 pounds) of waste during one trip,” says Weber-Andersen.

To fund its operations, GreenKayak has partnerships with companies that pay to feature their logo on the kayaks; sponsors receive monthly reports listing how many tourists and locals used their branded kayak and how much trash they picked up. We collected about 15 pounds’ worth of floating debris — mostly paper cups, plastic bags, and cigarette butts.

GreenKayak also plays a key role in CopenPay, an initiative introduced in 2024 by Wonderful Copenhagen, the city’s official tourism organization, to inspire visitors to act more sustainably by offering discounts to popular attractions in exchange for environmentally-friendly actions and activities — including.…

Seatrade Cruise Global Debuts First Wellness Oasis at Sea

by Porthole Cruise and Travel February 10, 2026
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Seatrade Cruise Global will debut its first Wellness Oasis at the 2026 event, April 13 to 16 in Miami. Created with Spark Cooperative, the space will feature wellness programming and activations for cruise lines, brands and wellness companies.

“Cruise is evolving quickly to meet the expectations of today’s traveler and wellness is at the center of that shift,” said Chiara Giorgi, Seatrade Cruise Global Brand Director. “The Wellness Oasis is designed as both a destination and a discovery platform: a place to recharge during a high-energy week, and a place to experience the new ideas shaping the future of the cruise guest experience.”

The program is structured around three themes:

Day One: Mind, focused on mindfulness and mental clarity
Day Two: Body, centered on fitness, recovery, and nutrition
Day Three: Spirit, highlighting ritual and connection

“We wanted The Wellness Oasis to feel like a genuine reset for people moving through the convention, while also opening the door to bigger ideas about wellness in cruise,” said Travis Brendle, Creative Director, Spark Cooperative. “It is a space where attendees can step out of the noise, experience wellness firsthand, and start imagining how these ideas could live onboard. This is just the beginning of what a more connected wellness ecosystem for our industry could look like.”

The Wellness Oasis will include six zones: The Reset Pod for mindfulness, The Mat for fitness, The Lab for recovery innovation, The Sip Bar for functional beverages and nutrition, Future of Beauty for treatments and technology, and Culture Corner for global wellness practices.

Programming will run throughout the conference and include mindfulness sessions, fitness demonstrations, recovery activations and product tastings.

Giorgi added, “Wellness now extends far beyond the spa. With the Wellness Oasis, we’re creating a platform for cruise lines and partners to share ideas, showcase innovation and help shape the future of wellness at sea.”

      Venus Lines for Cozy Cruising

by Lola Méndez February 10, 2026
      written by Lola Méndez

Astrocartography can help you plan your dream cruises. This branch of astrology generates a personalized map of the globe with lines that analyze how different places on Earth relate to your natal chart and how those locations may influence you. “Astrocartography shows your best places in the world due to the energies present in different locations,” astrocartographer Helena Woods says.

Your astrocartography map can help you decide where to cruise. “The lines on your map can help you avoid going on vacations where you have more challenging energies and instead travel to places that are more enjoyable,” Woods says.

Every year, Woods goes on a cruise along her Venus line, which runs through Norwegian fjords, to completely unplug. “Venus is the best place for people to travel for vacation,” Woods says, since Venus lines represent pleasure, food, enjoyment, and connecting with nature.

She recommends looking at destinations along your Venus lines for planning relaxation-focused cruise vacations. If your Venus line crosses Antarctica, book an expedition cruise and enjoy cozy activities on the ship, like relaxing in the sauna or enjoying hot chocolate as you take in the view from your balcony. Those with Venus lines in Asia should add a market visit or shore excursion to taste local foods.

by Julie Bouchner February 9, 2026
      written by Julie Bouchner

Princess Cruises announced that Alfredo’s Pizzeria on Sun Princess and Star Princess has earned the Ospitalità Italiana Certification, a global recognition for authentic Italian cuisine and hospitality!

Alfredo’s Pizzeria has earned the Ospitalità Italiana Certification, a distinction given to restaurants that preserve Italy’s culinary traditions. Guests on Sun Princess and Star Princess can enjoy authentic Neapolitan-style pizza, hand-stretched and baked in a stone Moretti Forni oven by skilled chefs using fresh ingredients.

The achievement coincides with National Pizza Day and highlights Princess Cruises’ collaboration with 13-time World Pizza Champion Tony Gemignani, who helps bring genuine Italian pizza expertise to Alfredo’s menu.

“Earning the Ospitalità Italiana Certification is a meaningful validation of our dedication to authentic Italian culinary excellence,” said Sami Kohen, Princess Cruises Vice President of Food and Beverage. “As we celebrate National Pizza Day, we’re proud to recognize this achievement and our partnership with Chef Tony Gemignani to showcase how we bring our guests closer to the tastes, traditions, and hospitality of Italy, one perfectly crafted pizza at a time.”

Chef Tony Gemignani has crafted five signature pizzas for Princess Cruises, available across the fleet of 17 ships. Each pizza features bold flavor combinations and premium ingredients, from Soppressata sausage and hot honey to Gorgonzola and sweet fig preserves, earning Princess Cruises recognition from USA Today for the “Best Pizza at Sea.”

Once Upon a Time Down Under

by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine February 6, 2026
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine

Pop quiz time: what was the bestselling English-language murder-mystery novel of the 19th century? If your answer, like mine, was something by Arthur Conan Doyle or Edgar Allan Poe, you would be wrong. The book, Mystery of a Hansom Cab, and the writer, Fergus Hume, are virtually unknown today, but in the London of 1887, they were all the rage. Half a million readers lapped up the story set in Melbourne, Australia’s, Chinatown, which the book described in lurid detail as a seedy jumble of alleys lined with boarding houses and opium dens.

Reading Hume’s book nearly 150 years after its publication, I was struck not by the mystery (it is highly unimpressive), but by the contrast between the Chinatown of then and now. I had been to some of the book’s locations on previous trips, but wanted to explore the area in greater depth to better understand the story of Melbourne’s Chinatown.

      A Neighborhood’s Back Pages

Dating back to the early 1850s, Melbourne’s Chinatown is among the oldest Chinatowns in the world. It started as a handful of boarding houses on Celestial Avenue, housing Chinese laborers who had arrived at Australian shores following the 1851 gold rush in Victoria, the state of which Melbourne is capital. With time, gambling houses, opium shops, and brothels popped up along Little Bourke Street, Swanston Street, and their surroundings, forming the basis of Hume’s descriptions of a slum.

The mining industry declined in the late 1800s, and the area transformed into a wholesale market for fruits and furniture run by Chinese migrants. However, the 1901 White Australia Policy barred non-Europeans from Australia, causing Chinatown to shrink in the 20th century. All the policy’s components were dismantled only in 1976, after which there was a focus on redevelopment of Chinatown to highlight its heritage.

      Walking Into the Story

I start at one end of Little Bourke Street near the Southern Cross train station. Hume’s slums have long been replaced by trendy cafés, offices, even an art gallery or two, forming the heart of downtown Melbourne. The street is narrow; Melbourne’s “little” streets were lanes originally added to service the main streets (so Little Bourke Street to service the larger parallel Bourke Street).

I reach the busy Swanston Street intersection, and spot the first of Chinatown’s four paifang, or traditional Chinese archways, at the intersections with four major streets. They were built in the 1970s by a Shanghai-born Australian city councillor who wanted to spruce up Melbourne’s Chinatown and make it a tourist attraction. Two rows of red lanterns line the street, which give it a slightly kitschy aura, but it distinguishes the area amid downtown’s malls and shops.

Some of the street’s buildings catch my eye. The Num Pon Soon building at 200 Bourke Street, built in 1861, is a gorgeous.…

This Is Why UnCruise Feels Nothing Like a Cruise

by Bill Panoff February 5, 2026
      written by Bill Panoff

There are cruises, and then there’s UnCruise Adventures in the Sea of Cortez.

From the moment you step onboard, it’s clear this is different. Not polished for show, but genuinely immersive. The crew and expedition team live what they do. They spot wildlife, jump in the water with you, and explain what you’re seeing and why it matters. It feels real because it is.

The itinerary exists, until it doesn’t. Plans shift based on weather, sea conditions, and what nature offers that day. You might set out for one activity and end up doing something better. That flexibility is the magic. Nothing feels forced or pre packaged. It’s responsive, intuitive, and human.

The guests complete the experience. Everyone is there to explore. No one rushing back to a pool chair. There’s a shared curiosity that creates an easy sense of community. You’re not just traveling together, you’re experiencing it together.

Each day feels unscripted. Kayaking untouched coastlines, snorkeling with sea lions, hiking landscapes that feel frozen in time. No crowds. No rush. Just nature, a passionate team, and people who want to be there.

That’s UnCruise. No box checking. No rigid plans. Just presence, connection, and real adventure. I’ve cruised a lot, and nothing else feels like this. Once you do it, everything else feels a little staged.

MSC Cruises and ORCA Partner for Alaska Season

by Julie Bouchner February 4, 2026
      written by Julie Bouchner

MSC Cruises is partnering with marine conservation organization ORCA for its inaugural Alaska season in summer 2026. The partnership was officially announced at CLIA’s Pacific Northwest Symposium in Anchorage, Alaska, where cruise and conservation leaders gathered to discuss sustainable operations. The announcement highlights MSC Cruises’ leadership in science-driven conservation and sets the tone for the company’s debut Alaskan season.

As part of the initiative, an ORCA-trained Marine Mammal Observer will be on board the MSC Poesia to watch whales and see how they respond to cruise ships. The observer will spend a month on the ship during peak whale season, from late July through late August, gathering detailed data on whale behavior in Alaskan waters. The information collected will be shared with the scientific community and used to support ORCA’s whale avoidance training for deck crews across the cruise and shipping industries, including MSC Cruises.

Linden Coppell, Vice President, Sustainability & ESG at MSC Cruises, said: “As we prepare for  our inaugural season in Alaska, it was important for us to take a proactive, science-led approach to  operating in one of the world’s most environmentally sensitive regions. Partnering with ORCA allows  us to combine expert research, enhanced crew training and meaningful guest engagement to better  understand how vessels interact with whales and how we can further reduce risk. This collaboration  reflects our broader commitment to protecting marine biodiversity while continuing to evolve how  our industry operates responsibly.”

ORCA will also provide guidance on Alaska experiences by reviewing whale watching excursions, identifying responsible operators, and offering ongoing feedback throughout the season to support sustainable wildlife tourism.

Steve Jones, COO at ORCA, said: “As ORCA enters it’s 25th year, we see more than ever before the  opportunity the cruise industry has to play a meaningful part in protecting whales. MSC Cruises is showing that they plan to go above and beyond to embed conservation as a part of the wonderful  program they are offering this summer. We’re proud to be a part of making their debut Alaskan season  an experience their guests will never forget.”

Guest education is another key part of the partnership. On each sailing, the ORCA observer will host onboard sessions to explain the research and introduce guests to ORCA’s citizen science programs, helping them connect more deeply with Alaska’s marine environment.

The partnership coincides with MSC Cruises’ first Alaska season, with the newly upgraded MSC Poesia sailing seven-night itineraries from Seattle. Strong demand has already prompted the company to open sales for its 2027 Alaska season, reflecting a long-term commitment to responsible operations in the region.
