Here’s How to Book Your First Cruise

by Porthole Cruise and Travel August 7, 2024
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Booking your first cruise can feel overwhelming with the options, prices, and promotions available. Understanding how cruise pricing works and knowing when to book can save you money and ensure you have a vacation you’ll cherish for years. Here are some essential tips to guide you through the booking process.

Know the Types of Cruises

Mainstream Cruises: These are offered by well-known cruise lines and target a vast audience. They often provide competitive prices and a variety of onboard activities.

Luxury Cruises: If you prefer a more upscale experience, these cruises offer premium services, finer dining, and excursions.

River Cruises: Smaller and often more intimate, river cruises typically focus on cultural experiences at various destinations.

Research Pricing Trends

Cruise prices can fluctuate significantly based on the season, the itinerary, and the ship’s size. Off-peak times, like late fall or early spring, often have lower prices than peak travel seasons.

Last-minute deals are common but may leave limited options, especially if you have specific requests (e.g., cabin type).

Keep an Eye on Promotions

Cruise lines frequently offer promotions that can include perks such as onboard credit, free excursions, beverage packages, or reduced fares. To stay informed, sign up for cruise line newsletters and follow them on social media.

Consider booking during wave season (January to March), when many lines incentivize bookings with various discounts and perks.

Utilize a Travel Agent

Travel agents who specialize in cruises can be invaluable. They have extensive knowledge of different cruise lines and promotions and can often access exclusive deals unavailable to the public.

An experienced agent can also provide insights into which cruises coordinate best with your interests and budget.

Understand the Cost Breakdown

The cruise fare often only covers accommodation, meals, and entertainment. Additional costs may include gratuities, beverages, specialty dining, and excursions. Consider these when budgeting for your cruise.

Some promotions might include gratuities or a drinks package, making them worth considering for booking.

Consider Cabin Types and Locations

Different cabin types (interior, oceanview, balcony, or suite) come with varying price points. Choose based on your comfort level and budget.

The ship’s layout may affect your experience, so consider the location of your cabin in relation to common areas (like pools and restaurants) and potential noise levels.

Be Flexible with Itineraries

If you have flexibility in your travel dates, be open to different routes or ships. Sometimes, changing your departure port or length of the cruise can lead to significant savings.

By following these tips, you can easily navigate the booking process and find the best deal for your dream cruise. Happy sailing!

Enjoy Shore Excursions Without Missing Ship Departure

by Porthole Cruise and Travel August 6, 2024
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Cruising lets you explore exciting destinations through various shore excursions, offering unique experiences at every port. However, balancing adventure with punctuality is essential. Here are tips to maximize your shore excursions while ensuring you don’t miss your ship’s departure.

Know Your Ship’s Schedule

Before you step off the ship, familiarize yourself with your cruise itinerary. Take note of the following:

Arrival and Departure Times: Understand when the ship arrives and departs each port. This will help you gauge how much time you have to explore.

All-Aboard Time: This is usually set a little earlier than the departure time. Mark it on your calendar or your phone to ensure you don’t lose track of time.

Plan your Itinerary in Advance

Having a solid plan can make all the difference:

Research Destinations: Before stepping off the ship, look up key attractions, local restaurants, and experiences that interest you.

Organized Tours vs. Independent Exploration: Consider booking excursions through the cruise line, which typically guarantees timely returns. If you prefer to explore independently, make sure you have a clear plan for travel times.

Prioritize Must-See Attractions

With limited time in port, decide what’s most important to you:

Top Priorities: Identify the one or two items you want to see and have backup options if time allows for additional activities.

Set Time Limits: Allocate specific time windows for each activity to avoid losing track of time—after all, once you’re immersed in a local culture, it can be easy to get carried away!

Factor in Travel Times

Understanding the logistics of getting back to the ship is critical:

Local Transportation: Learn about the best transportation methods in advance, such as taxis, buses, or ferries. Make sure you know how long each will take, considering potential traffic or delays.

Return Point: Designate a specific landmark or meeting point where you’ll regroup with your traveling companions before returning to the ship.

Set and Stick to a Return Time

Create a timeline that allows you to return well ahead of the “all aboard” deadline:

Plan to Leave Early: Aim to leave at least 30 to 60 minutes before the designated return time. This buffer can help accommodate any unexpected delays.

Use Alarms and Alerts: Set alarms on your phone to remind you when to head back. This will help you avoid the “just 5 more minutes” mentality that can lead to panic later.

Be Flexible

Be prepared for potential changes and exercise caution during your exploration:

Listen for Announcements: Cruise lines typically broadcast important information regarding departure times. Keep your ears open for any updates while onshore.

Be Flexible: If you find an interesting spot but realize you’re running out of time, pivot your plans to ensure a prompt return.

Respect the Ship’s Departure

As tempting as it might be to squeeze in one last adventure, it’s essential to be aware of the following:

Communicate with Travel Partners: If you’re traveling with family or friends, set a collective agreement on return times to ensure everyone is on the same page.
Have a Backup Plan: If you’re exploring independently, know your options for returning to the ship if you miscalculate your return time.

We hope these tips help you enjoy each destination’s excursions while knowing your ship’s call time!

La Laguna’s old town is a treasure trove of historic churches, typical places to enjoy and buy local products, artistic sites, and palaces. This historic quarter, once the capital of the island, is linked to the current capital city, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, by a tram. During Easter Week, La Laguna holds a significant celebration, unique in the Canary Islands. Each night, saints accompanied by brotherhoods walk through the old quarter. The highlight is the Magna Procession on Good Friday, where processions gather at the Cathedral and move into the streets. The Procession of Silence, featuring the dead Christ, is held early in the morning at the Parish Church of Santo Domingo, making this a deeply enriching cultural experience for visitors.

The natural beauty of Tenerife is simply breathtaking, particularly at iconic sites like Anaga Country Park, situated in the island’s oldest region. Here, winding valleys, turquoise waters, and majestic mountain ranges earned the park UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status in 2015. The towering Teide Volcano at 12,198 feet, the world’s third-tallest volcano if measured from the ocean floor, offers unparalleled vistas and holds UNESCO World Heritage status.

The dramatic cliffs of Los Gigantes, plunging almost vertically into the ocean, present a unique sight best experienced by renting a speedboat or sailboat to explore the stunning coastline. Montaña Amarilla epitomizes Tenerife’s volcanic landscape with its serene beach hidden in an ancient volcanic crater, inviting visitors to enjoy a swim in its crystalline waters.

For those seeking a picturesque black sand beach, Playa Jardín in Puerto de la Cruz offers stunning views of Mount Teide and is an ideal spot to visit.

The charcos, or natural pools, are among the world’s most unique attractions. Formed from hardened lava and fed by ocean water, these unforgettable pools exhibit rich colors, intriguing shapes, and diverse aquatic vegetation. Some of the best charcos to visit include Charco de los Chochos, Charco del Rayo, and Charco de la Laja. A visit to any of the natural pools on the island promises a tranquil swimming experience in a safe environment suitable for both children and adults alike.

Do Good While Traveling

by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine August 5, 2024
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine

You can do some good for the Earth while you’re traveling to distant lands — or even just a few miles from home.

Here are a few ways recommended by the European hotel group Green Pearls:

  • When you’re visiting new places, use public transportation or walk, when possible, rather than driving. You’ll see more and help keep pollutants out of the air.
  • Find out about beach or forest clean-ups in the area and pitch in.
  • At your hotel, waive daily housekeeping. Reuse your towels when possible. Some hotels offer a donation to sustainability-minded organizations for each day you pass on having your room cleaned.
  • As a day’s excursion, get to know the destination and meet some locals by getting involved in tree-planting campaigns.

Every little bit helps.

Alaska Railroad Approves Seward Cruise Port with Royal Caribbean Group

by Porthole Cruise and Travel August 2, 2024
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

On Thursday, the Alaska Railroad’s Board of Directors approved purchasing a $137 million cruise facility in Seward. This begins construction of the largest turn port in Alaska, set to open in spring 2026.

Upon completion, the Alaska Railroad will acquire the facility for $137 million, including debt linked to a 30-year pier usage agreement with Royal Caribbean Group, which will have preferential berthing rights. The Alaska Railroad will own and operate the facility as an open dock for multiple cruise lines.

“Large developments are never easy. Today’s greenlight approval was two years in the making. The Alaska Railroad Board’s decision to purchase the new facility shows the value of the certainty of the partnership between Royal Caribbean Group, Turnagain, Seward Company, and the executive team at the Alaska Railroad created,” said Mickey Richardson, CEO of the Port of Tomorrow, representing the ownership of the Seward Company. “The agreement guarantees cruise ships will continue to serve Seward for the next 30 years and beyond.”

ABOUT THE FACILITY

  • 68,000-square-foot turn port terminal.
  • Handles cruise ship provisioning.
  • Serves as a community space.
  • 750-foot floating dock with two berths for modern cruise ships.
  • Future maintenance capability at Seward’s shipyards.
  • Supports fresh water, local fuel, and shore power.
  • 150-foot transfer span connects to Alaska Railroad and ground transportation.

“It will be the largest floating pier in the state” said Jason Davis, President of Turnagain, the design/builder of the Seward port. “Alaska’s infrastructure growth, and for that matter, the growth of the tourism industry, depends heavily on projects supported by the cruise industry, global travel partners, and Alaskans,” added Davis.

The visitor industry is Alaska’s second-largest private-sector employer, providing one in ten jobs (52,000) and generating an economic impact of $5.6 billion. The Seward cruise port is essential for the future of Alaska’s travel industry, ensuring the viability of the Cross-Gulf turn port and supporting tourism development in Southcentral and Interior Alaska.

“The Alaskan experience is at the heart of our decades-long agreement with the Alaska Railroad and the city of Seward,” said Preston Carnahan, Royal Caribbean Group, AVP West Coast Destinations. “This new facility supports our commitment to deliver incredible experiences to our guests while also developing a state-of-the-art facility and community hub. This reinforces our commitment to the Seward community who has graciously welcomed us to their beautiful home.”

Construction on the new terminal will start after the 2024 Alaska cruise season. The foundation is expected to be in place before winter, with pier construction planned for fall 2025. The grand opening is set for spring 2026.

“The existing passenger dock has brought incredible economic opportunities to Seward over its lifetime, but after 60 years of service it’s imperative that we replace this aging infrastructure,” said Bill O’Leary, CEO of the Alaska Railroad. “We’re glad to have partners that recognize that fact as well, as this project would not be possible without Royal Caribbean’s 30-year commitment. The new dock represents a great investment in Seward as well as Alaska’s travel industry across the state, and we’re excited to help support the next 60 years of industry growth and opportunity in our state.”

Your Guide to Cruise Lingo

by Porthole Cruise and Travel August 2, 2024
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Embarking on your first cruise can be exciting yet overwhelming, especially when faced with a ton of unfamiliar terms. We’ve put together a handy glossary of essential cruise terminology to help you feel more confident and prepared for your journey. Familiarizing yourself with these terms will make your cruise experience smoother and more enjoyable.

1. Embarkation

This refers to the process of boarding the cruise ship. Typically, passengers are given a specific time to arrive at the port. After checking in and going through security, you can board the ship and start your vacation!

2. Disembarkation

The opposite of embarkation, disembarkation, is leaving the ship at the end of the cruise. It usually involves unloading luggage and going through customs if you return to your home port or transfer to another location.

3. Itinerary

The cruise’s planned route includes the ports of call and the dates you’ll be visiting each one. Itineraries can vary, so reviewing it before traveling is good to understand where you’ll be heading.

4. Port of Call

These are the stops along your cruise itinerary where the ship docks, allowing passengers to explore different destinations. Each port of call typically offers opportunities for excursions, sightseeing, and local experiences.

5. Shore Excursion

These are organized activities while the ship is docked at a port of call. Excursions range from guided tours and adventurous activities (like snorkeling or hiking) to cultural experiences (like museums or local markets). Cruises often offer pre-booked excursions, but you can also explore independently.

6. Muster Drill

A safety briefing that all passengers must attend is usually held shortly after boarding. During the muster drill, you’ll learn essential safety procedures, including how to find your life jacket and where to go in case of an emergency.

7. Cabin (or Stateroom)

The area where you’ll be staying during the cruise. Cabins can vary in size and features—from interior cabins without windows to luxurious suites with balconies. Your cabin assignment will typically be provided when you check-in.

8. All-Inclusive

Many cruise lines offer packages that include accommodations, meals, and entertainment for one price. Knowing what’s included can help you budget and plan for any additional expenses, like shore excursions and specialty dining.

9. Gratuities (Tips)

These refer to the service charges added to your bill for staff members who assist you during your cruise, including dining staff, cabin stewards, and bartenders. Some cruise lines automatically include gratuities in your booking, while others may suggest a daily rate.

10. Sea Days

On days when the cruise ship is at sea, it travels to the next destination rather than docking at a port. Sea days offer unique opportunities for relaxation and onboard activities, so be sure to take advantage of these moments.

11. Formal Night

Certain cruises designate specific evenings as “formal nights,” where passengers are encouraged to dress up for dinner and evening activities. The dress code usually involves elegant attire, so check with your cruise line for guidelines.

12. Open Seating and Assigned Dining

Cruises often offer different dining options, including open seating (where you can choose when and with whom to eat) and assigned dining (where you have a set time and table for each meal). It’s good to know your dining arrangements beforehand.

13. Enrichment Programs

These are educational workshops, classes, or talks offered onboard that focus on various interests, such as cooking, photography, or wellness. Enrichment programs are a great way to engage and learn something new while cruising..

14. Cruise Credit

A financial credit that can be used for future bookings on the same cruise line. Cruise credits may be given for various reasons, such as adjusting a reservation or showing appreciation for passenger loyalty.

Now that you’re familiar with this cruise vocabulary, you’re well on your way to feeling more confident about your upcoming voyage.

written by Julie Bouchner

Norwegian Cruise Line has announced a series of enhancements for the Norwegian Encore that will elevate guests’ onboard experience.

The updates will include a new Spice H2O, expanded dining at Cagney’s Steakhouse and Teppanyaki, redesigned suites in The Haven, and 24 new balcony staterooms.

RELATED: NORWEGIAN JEWEL TO HOMEPORT IN PHILADELPHIA

MORE ABOUT THE ENHANCEMENTS

Norwegian Encore will undergo a two-week dry dock from November 18 to December 2, 2024. During this time, a new Spice H2O will be introduced as an adults-only outdoor area located away from the main pool deck. This space will replace the existing laser tag arena and will feature a revised design by Studio Dado, combining elements from Spice H2O on the Breakaway-Plus Class with those from Infinity Beach on the Prima Class vessels. The new area will include multiple hot tubs, eight-day beds surrounded by pools, and a bar offering a variety of cocktails.

The enhancements will also expand two popular specialty dining options. Cagney’s Steakhouse, which recently earned the 2024 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, will expand into the former Los Lobos space on deck eight. Teppanyaki will take over Coco’s on deck six to increase capacity. Additionally, Ocean Blue will be transformed into Palomar, focusing on Mediterranean seafood cuisine.

Norwegian Encore will expand its Premier Owner’s Suites in The Haven by Norwegian from two bedrooms to three. The new suites will feature three and a half bathrooms, a renovated living room, a master bedroom, outdoor balcony furniture, and a separate dining room.

Norwegian Encore will also add 24 new balconies and two club balcony staterooms, repurposing part of the Observation Lounge.

These enhancements will complement family-friendly offerings, including the Norwegian Encore Speedway, Aqua Park with multi-story waterslides, and Galaxy Pavilion virtual reality complex.

“Our guests’ wants and needs are at the forefront of every decision that we make, and enhancing Norwegian Encore with more of the experiences they value showcases our commitment to just that,” said David J. Herrera, President of Norwegian Cruise Line. “From more space for adults to relax, to more opportunities to enjoy their favorite dining options and beyond, we are dedicated to providing our guests with an elevated onboard experience as part of their dream vacation.”

After a two-week dry dock, Norwegian Encore will sail on a 12-day transatlantic voyage from Southampton to Miami. It will then offer seven-day Caribbean cruises through March 2025, visiting Puerto Plata, Tortola, St. Thomas, and Great Stirrup Cay. In summer 2025, it will operate seven-day Alaska cruises from Seattle.

Barcelona’s Best: Where to Go and What to See in Spain’s City of Counts

by Steve Leland August 1, 2024
written by Steve Leland

Over the past several years, we’ve enjoyed Barcelona on so many occasions, experiencing great places, unforgettable sights, and wonderful cuisine.

The streets feature amazing architecture and world-class shopping opportunities. Las Ramblas may be the most well-known pedestrian avenue but there are others that branch outward from Catalonia Square. Designer stores share the grand boulevards with sidewalk tapas bars and international gourmet restaurants.

One of our favorite ways to see Barcelona is with Culinary Backstreets, an organization of culinary connoisseurs whose food tours reveal a trove of local delectables. But beyond cuisine, Barcelona is full of eye candy as well.

Sagrada Familia | Photo: Steve Leland

The iconic symbol of the city is La Sagrada Famila. The unique vision of Antoni Gaudi is still a work-in-progress after 100 years, earning him the nickname “God’s Architect.”  His masterpiece is the most-visited religious monument in Spain, with an intriguing mix of architectural styles, from Art Nouveau to organic abstraction.

While Central Barcelona can easily be covered on foot, for longer adventures we rely on our longtime friend and driver Josep at Barcelona Limousine Service. On our most recent visit, he took us to Park Güell. We chose to further explore this World Heritage site and Gaudi’s iconic architectural elements. After a 20-minute drive, we arrived at the lofty location up in the hills.

The park is a sprawling green space with serpentine walkways and plazas that overlook the city and Gaudi’s official residence.  As a public space, Park Güell reflects Gaudí’s artistic genius using organic shapes as inspiration. It also provides a vantage point to look across Barcelona itself.

The city is a feast for the soul. Barcelona’s Gothic buildings, Catalonian culture, and the Mediterranean beaches fill a perfect plate for travel enjoyment.

4 Tips for First-Time Cruisers

by Porthole Cruise and Travel August 1, 2024
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Planning your first cruise can be an exciting yet overwhelming experience. With various options and considerations, focusing on the most critical aspects is essential to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey. Here are four essential tips to guide you through the process:

1. Choose the Right Cruise Line and Itinerary

Selecting the right cruise line is crucial, as different lines cater to different demographics and travel styles. Do you seek a family-friendly environment with kid-friendly activities, a luxury experience with fine dining, or an adventure-focused cruise that emphasizes excursions and exploration? Take the time to read reviews, watch travel vlogs, and gather insights from seasoned cruisers to find the right fit.

Equally important is your itinerary. Research the ports of call and consider what activities appeal to you. Whether you prefer vibrant city explorations, relaxing beach days, or immersive cultural experiences, make sure your chosen cruise aligns with your interests.

2. Set a Realistic Budget

Establishing a budget is vital for a stress-free cruising experience. Start with the cruise fare, which typically covers accommodations and meals on the ship. However, remember to factor in additional expenses like:

  • Excursions: Activities at each port can range from guided tours to adventure sports.
  • Onboard Expenses: Drinks, spa treatments, specialty dining, and gratuities can add up quickly.
  • Travel Costs: Consider flights, parking, or hotel stays before and after the cruise.

By calculating all potential expenses, you can enjoy your trip without worrying about extra costs along the way.

3. Pack Wisely

Effective packing can significantly enhance your cruising experience. Begin with a clothing plan that includes a mix of casual and formal attire, as many cruise lines have themed nights or formal dinners. Be sure to include:

  • Daywear: Comfortable clothes for sunshine and excursions.
  • Evening Wear: Outfits suitable for dining and evening events.
  • Swimwear and Footwear: Suitable options for the pool and explorations onshore.

Additionally, don’t forget essentials like sunscreen, a light jacket for cooler evenings, and any personal medications. Having everything ready will make your cruise experience more enjoyable and hassle-free.

4. Plan Shore Excursions in Advance

Many cruise lines offer organized excursions, but it’s often worth finding independent options that offer a different perspective or a more personalized experience. Research each port of call to identify activities you’d like to do, and if certain excursions are popular or limited in capacity, consider booking them in advance. This proactive approach ensures you maximize your time at each destination and avoid missing out on must-see attractions.

By focusing on these four essential tips, you’ll be well-prepared for your first cruise!

Top Reasons a Cruise is the Best Affordable Girls’ Trip

by Porthole Cruise and Travel July 31, 2024
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

If you are looking for a fun, easy, and affordable getaway with your closest friends, consider a cruise! It offers the perfect backdrop for bonding, laughter, and rejuvenation. Let’s explore why a girls’ trip on a cruise is easy and surprisingly affordable!

 A One-Stop Destination

When planning a getaway, the logistics can often become a nightmare—flights, accommodations, transportation, and dining. With a cruise, however, much of this hassle is taken care of in one convenient package. Your “hotel,” dining, and entertainment are all onboard, allowing you to spend quality time with your girlfriends without worrying about where to go next. Plus, with numerous ports of call on many itineraries, you can explore new destinations and cultures without the logistical headaches.

2. Affordable All-Inclusive Options

One of the most significant advantages of cruising is that many cruise lines offer all-inclusive packages. This means meals, entertainment, and most activities are included in your fare. You can indulge in delicious dining experiences, unwind by the pool, or enjoy onboard shows without worrying about constantly reaching for your wallet. Plus, many cruise lines run promotions and deals to help you snag a cabin at a budget-friendly price!

3. Variety of Activities

Cruises cater to various interests and passions, ensuring something for everyone in your group. Whether your crew wants to soak up the sun at the pool, dance the night away at a themed party, or indulge in a pampering spa day, a cruise has you covered. Many ships also offer organized group activities, making it easy to bond and make memories together through scavenger hunts, cooking classes, or wine tastings.

4. Group Discounts

If you’re planning a girls’ trip, why not leverage the power of the group? Many cruise lines offer group discounts or perks for booking multiple cabins, which can help save everyone money. Additionally, some cruise websites and travel agencies specialize in group travel—allowing you to take advantage of various deals explicitly tailored for larger parties.

5. Flexible Itineraries

Cruises are designed with flexibility in mind. They usually provide options for shore excursions, so you can choose how to spend your time at each destination. Whether you want a laid-back beach day, a thrilling adventure, or a cultural exploration, you can tailor your experience based on the group’s preferences—and everyone can participate in different activities at various ports.

6. A Perfect Setting for Connection

In the whirlwind of everyday life, losing touch with friends is easy. A cruise allows for uninterrupted time together, fostering connection and laughter that can last a lifetime. Whether sharing a cabin and late-night chats on your balcony or lounging by the pool, these moments become cherished memories. Plus, the relaxed atmosphere of a cruise encourages genuine bonding and fun.

7. Packing Made Simple

Cruising takes the stress out of packing. With limited space in your cabin, you can streamline your wardrobe; you’ll only need a few versatile outfits for daytime fun and evening elegance. Most cruises also have laundry facilities, making it easy to freshen up your wardrobe if needed. Less packing means less hassle and more time to focus on what truly matters—fun with your friends!

Grab your besties, book that stateroom, and get ready to set sail on your next adventure! There’s no better way to reconnect, unwind, and enjoy life than on a girls’ trip at sea. Happy cruising!

Disney Cruise Line Reveals New Details on Disney Destiny

by Julie Bouchner July 30, 2024
written by Julie Bouchner

Exciting cruise experiences are coming with Disney Destiny, Disney Cruise Line’s new heroes—and villain-themed ship, which will launch in late 2025 from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

MORE ABOUT DISNEY DESTINY

  • Disney Destiny will be powered by liquefied natural gas.
  • Disney Destiny will explore the contrast between light and dark in classic Disney stories.
  • The ship will feature themed venues and entertainment inspired by Disney, Pixar, and Marvel characters, including a dining experience based on “The Lion King,” a confectionery themed around “The Incredibles,” and specially designed staterooms and concierge accommodations.

“For the Disney Destiny, we will introduce brand-new cruise experiences inspired by the legends and legacies of some of Disney’s most iconic heroes and villains,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Cruise Line. “From the dining rooms to the staterooms and everywhere in between, guests aboard our new ship will be surrounded by extraordinary storytelling paired with the signature service and family-fun adventures that are hallmarks of a Disney Cruise vacation.”

NEW DINING EXPERIENCES

Experience “The Lion King” at Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King, a unique dining event celebrating the film’s music. The savanna-themed venue features changing lighting and views from sunrises to sunsets. Live musicians and storytellers perform in the center, presenting favorites like “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata,” along with a mash-up of “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” and “Be Prepared.” The curated menu complements the music, celebrating family and Simba’s journey.

Two casual walk-up cafes are located off the Grand Hall. They offer a selection of coffee, tea, specialty beverages, and snacks:

Café Megara honors the witty heroine from Disney’s “Hercules” with a “Greco disco” design featuring lightning bolts, clouds of Mount Olympus, and vases representing the Muses.

Café Merida draws inspiration from Pixar’s “Brave,” showcasing a Celtic design that reflects her Scottish Highlands heritage. Highlights include a tapestry from a mounted bow and glowing lights that pay tribute to the will-o’-the-wisps.

Edna Mode’s lab from Pixar’s “The Incredibles” transforms into a unique confectionery at Edna Á La Mode Sweets aboard Disney Destiny.

Inspired by the “Auntie Edna” short film, the lab’s modern sewing equipment becomes sweet-making tools to entertain Jack-Jack, the unpredictable super baby. Guests can enjoy a selection of handmade gelato, ice cream, cookies, candies, and specialty treats, all set among bolts of fabric, costume models, and sculptures of Edna and Jack-Jack—one working hard, the other craving “num nums.”
