• Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced plans to use new pollution-reducing scrubbers to “meet or exceed” upcoming new international environmental standards. Thirteen Royal Caribbean International and six Celebrity Cruises ships will be retrofitted with the systems by 2017, the line said. The technology is expected to reduce the sulfur dioxide emissions generated by the ships’ diesel engines by more than 97 percent. With some pieces of the apparatus as large as a school bus, each installation is expected to take eight months.
• The first-ever SinglesCruise.com Australia and South Pacific cruise will set sail from Sydney aboard Carnival Spirit. The 9-day sailing embarks on November 30.
• Celebrity Cruises is, for a second time, hosting a theme cruise for New York Rangers fans. The Rangers Legends Cruise to Bermuda is on Celebrity Summit, embarking Bayonne on July 26. Rangers greats on board will include Adam Graves, Jeff Beukeboom, Stephane Matteau, and Ron Greschner.
• The Carnival Cruise Lines moniker will soon be a thing of the past. The cruise line is officially changing its name to Carnival Cruise Line. “We are gradually changing the name to Carnival Cruise Line — singular,” Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen tells Porthole. “This is a gradual change that is more closely tied to how Carnival Corporation & plc refers to its [eight] other brands.”
