Sophia Loren Highlights Glitzy Christening for MSC Seaview

When MSC Cruises needs to bring the style, they only have one call to make. Over the weekend, they celebrated the christening of their newest ship, MSC Seaview, with help from famed Italian actress Sophia Loren.

Loren, who is also the ship’s Godmother, made the christening in Genoa, Italy a glamorous affair, just as she did when named Godmother of MSC Lirica in 2003. Loren’s partnership with MSC Cruises is well known as no new ship event occurs without her blessing or attendance.

MSC Cruises’ New Commitment

The ship is the third to enter service in the past year, joining MSC Seaside and MSC Meraviglia as the latest vessels in MSC Cruises already impressive fleet. The new ships are part of a $12.4 billion investment to upgrade the fleet to only the newest, most impressive ships cruising the seas.

Also on hand to celebrate the occasion was Italian TV stars Michelle Hunziker and Lorella Cuccarini, Italian blues singer Zucchero Fornaciari and famed children’s chorus Piccolo Coro Dell’Antoniano. The glamorous event did have a humanitarian focus as well, as MSC Cruises has worked closely with UNICEF to provide funding for children and families in developing countries since 2009.
