written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Holland America Line proudly unveils its new regionally themed menus in the Dining Room and Lido Market on all Caribbean sailings. Guests can enjoy a unique culinary experience, from themed brunches and local rum tasting to a traditional, pirate-inspired punch, allowing them to savor the tastes of the Caribbean.

Offered on sea days, the dishes on the new menu will feature local ingredients ranging from sweet tropical flavors to savory ones, including Jamaican Banana Pancakes, Cuban Medianoche Pork and Cheese Sandwich, Jerk Burger with grilled pineapple salsa, and more.

“The rich flavors of the Caribbean add a new dimension to our guests’ dining experience with an immersion into the region’s culinary heritage — from fresh Puerto Rican tostones made from local plantains to a variety of tropical fruits and spices,” said Michael Stendebach, vice president of food, beverage and guest services at Holland America Line. “Even traditional Holland America Line favorites, like our bread pudding and crepe bar, will embrace Caribbean flavors with new variations in Lido Market.”

MORE ABOUT THE CARIBBEAN MENU

The dining room features a variety of dishes, showcasing island classics and favorites, including Chilly Caribbean Shrimp Cocktail with orange habanero aioli, Jerked Pork Tenderloin with peanuts, rice pilaf and black beans, Mahi Mahi Diablo with cilantro rice and guajillo chilies, and more.

The Lido Market showcases regional classics like Puerto Rican Tostones, regional fruits, and toppings with a buttered rum sauce, Caribbean Lamb Curry, Jerk Lamb Shank, Jamaican Braised Oxtail, Jamaican Garlic Shrimp, a selection of regional island sauces, and more.

Holland America Line’s renowned bread pudding is a signature offering, with its roots tracing back to Europe and the Caribbean, where early settlers crafted their delectable puddings. To pay homage to both these culinary traditions, Holland America Line’s Caribbean voyages now present an array of fresh bread puddings, such as Jamaican Bread Pudding, Chocolate Hazelnut Bread Pudding, Caribbean Bread Pudding, and others, all served with a warm rum vanilla sauce.

2023-2024 VOYAGES

Holland America Line’s Caribbean cruises sail from October 2023- April 2024 aboard the Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Nieuw Statendam, Rotterdam, Volendam, Zaandam, and Zuiderdam with cruise lengths ranging from 7-21 days.

One featured Caribbean cruise is the 14-day Panama Canal voyage aboard Zaandam, featuring seminars from cocktail historian David Wondrich and Jeff Berry, an innovator of the cocktail revolution who specializes in vintage tropical drinks, as well as rum tastings. The cruise departs on March 16, 2024, and is perfect for a relaxing getaway.

Living The Dream: Retiring On A Cruise Ship

by Porthole Cruise and Travel October 27, 2023
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Every cruiser knows that disembarkation day is the most challenging part of any cruise vacation. After days of indulging in amazing cuisine, world-class entertainment, and serene pools, leaving the ship can easily lead to the “cruise blues.” What if you didn’t have to get off the ship and could live there permanently or long-term? Well, some cruise enthusiasts have discovered a way to retire on cruise ships, and it’s not as costly as you may think! With the rising costs of retirement homes and communities, retiring on a cruise ship has become less of a fantasy and a more attainable goal. If you’re interested in learning how to retire on a cruise ship, keep reading!

Pros

One of the biggest advantages of retiring on a cruise ship is the opportunity to travel. Instead of being confined to one location, retirees have the rare option of exploring a new destination every few days. This is especially true for month-long or world cruises because cruisers visit many more ports than a shorter itinerary. Another benefit of living on a ship is the necessity of downsizing. With no ties to hold you down, you can easily move around to different locations for any period of time. An additional advantage is having all your meals prepared and served at your convenience. Forget the days of grocery shopping and meal planning; when you retire on a cruise ship, leave all the work to the chefs. Guests will never tire of the culinary options on cruise ships, as there are endless choices! Lastly, retirees can also relish the daily cabin cleaning and the overall cleanliness maintained on most cruise ships. Although many cruise lines charge additional fees for laundry services, sheets and towels will be replenished at guests’ convenience.

Photo by Sheila Jellison on Unsplash

Cons

One of the greatest disadvantages of retiring on a cruise ship is the challenge of seeing friends and family at a moment’s notice. Undeniably, being on a cruise ship for months or years limits the freedom to choose destinations and social interactions. Another drawback is maintaining your goal weight amidst unlimited food and drink. However, this can be mitigated by adhering to a gym routine at the onboard facilities and watching portions and food choices. Lastly, for individuals aged 65 or older, Medicare coverage can be limited outside of the country. Cruise ships typically prioritize emergency care, with limited access to many specialized checkups or procedures. Those in good health may consider purchasing a private healthcare plan for extended travel.

Cost

According to Cruisebooking.com, the average daily cost aboard a cruise ship ranges from $150 to $250. Money.com reports that, on average, in 2023, a semi-private room in a nursing home can cost around $260 to $290 a day, depending on the facility and the state. With that in mind, if someone is considering full-time living on a cruise ship, they should research the average costs in their home states for reference. Retirees should also consider the services included in the cruise fare, as listed above. While cruise fares can be more affordable than many mortgages, especially if a retired person owns their home, a helpful suggestion may be to consider renting out their home while they spend their time aboard a cruise ship. Renting out your home can easily help cover expenses while at sea.

Cruise Line Suggestions

Holland America Line is one of the more popular lines for seniors seeking long-term itineraries. Offering itineraries ranging from 20-day trips to 133-day sailings and everything in between, guests have a variety of choices when considering extended voyages departing from the United States. In 2020, Holland America Line won the Travel Weekly Readers’ Choice Awards for the best cruise itinerary. Their impressive offerings include stunning sailings such as the Grand Africa Voyage, Grand Australia & New Zealand Voyage, Grand South America & Antarctica Voyage, and much more.

For retirees in search of a more permanent option, The World stands out as a residential cruise ship where guests can purchase studios or 1-2 bedroom apartments. This vessel also provides a comprehensive range of services one would expect on any other cruise line, including housekeeping, wellness programs, dining experiences, concierge services, and more. With 165 other apartments, The World offers its residents an intimate experience that allows them to explore the world without leaving the comfort of their own homes.

Finally, for those seeking a luxury living option, Storylines’ MV Narrative is a larger ship featuring 547 fully furnished apartments ranging from 1 to 4 bedrooms. Retirees can purchase an apartment for approximately $1-8 million, or alternatively, they have the option to rent an apartment aboard the vessel for around $400,000. The MV Narrative even has its private marina at the ship’s aft, so residents can sail, jetski, kayak, or swim in the sea.

Retiring on a cruise ship may seem like an unattainable dream for many retirees. However, after reading this article, hopefully, you’ve gained some insight into how this dream can become your reality. Whether it’s booking months-long itineraries, embarking on sailings that span over a hundred days, or even considering the purchase of an apartment aboard a residential ship, retiring on a cruise ship can be achieved. This retirement plan can be made possible with some research, downsizing, and a dash of creativity. Have you considered retiring aboard a cruise ship? Let us know in the comments below!

Cruise Preparation Checklist: 10 Pre-cruise Mistakes You Don’t Want to Make

by Sharon Waugh October 26, 2023
written by Sharon Waugh

After booking your cruise and making all of the necessary travel arrangements, it’s easy to think that your job is done and that all you have to do is try not to get so distracted by fantasies of sitting next to the pool with a margarita in hand that you forget to pack your underwear.

As someone with experience as both a cruise ship crew member and a guest, I know that there are many things that people overlook when planning their cruises. If you want to switch into vacation mode from the moment you step aboard your ship, here are 10 of the most common things that you’re likely to regret not doing before a cruise:

1. Checking the validity of your travel documents

Photo by Ethan Wilkinson on Pexels.com

This is not specific to cruising, but you should always ensure you have the right travel documents.

Depending on your nationality, the port of departure, and the destinations, some cruises will allow you to travel by driver’s license but most cruises to international ports require a passport. Even if your passport is valid for the full duration of the cruise, it usually has to be valid for a length of time after that, and you normally need at least two blank pages for passport stamps. It’s always advisable to check this long before your cruise to avoid stress and disappointment.

2. Informing your bank that you’re leaving the country

Many people don’t realize that if you suddenly start swiping your credit card in a foreign destination, your bank may identify this as suspicious activity and block your account. This could be further exacerbated if you are out of cell phone range and they are unable to contact you.

When I worked in guest services, we often had to call guests to the front desk when the credit card they had attached to their onboard account had been blocked, and I overheard many intense conversations between guests and their banks to try to rectify this. This can add a lot of unnecessary stress to one’s vacation.

Informing your bank that you are leaving the country can help you avoid this. It can also often be done on one’s banking app. While you could probably do this on board if you have internet access, why would you want to waste time on vacation doing anything on your phone other than making your friends back home jealous?

3. Researching roaming and internet options

Photo by Timothy Hales Bennett  on Unsplash.com

Whether you want to unplug altogether, stay in touch with family members back home in case of an emergency, or document every aspect of your vacation for social media, knowing your options before you arrive on board is good.

Sometimes Wi-Fi is available for free on board, but more often, various packages are offered at different price points. And while more and more cruise lines are switching to Starlink for faster connections, the internet available onboard may be varying degrees of slow. If you plan to work remotely at sea, you should research what you can expect from the internet offerings on your specific ship to avoid any nasty surprises.

4. Downloading the cruise line app

The ship app can often be invaluable for knowing what’s happening onboard, making various bookings, and even checking in. It’s best to download it before you get on board so you can create your profile or link it with your booking details beforehand. You may not be able to do this after you set sail if you don’t have an internet package. It’s also helpful to familiarize yourself with it and the features it offers before you need to use it.

5. Researching the ports and planning port day activities

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten. Photo by Sharon Waugh

While it’s tempting to wing it and take your cruise experience as it comes with no set plans, exploring on your own without understanding what’s available can result in a wasted port day and missed opportunities to do something you would enjoy.

Although a port talk is often presented during the cruise that may help you decide what to do in port, it is not uncommon for popular shore excursions to sell out before this. Researching a port in advance and booking the tours you want to do before they sell out is advisable. You may also explore the option of doing a tour independently and the risks and benefits of doing this. (I.e., An independent tour may be cheaper than a cruise line-offered tour, but if it runs late, your ship may leave without you. The general rule is that if you are on a ship tour and it comes back late, they have to wait for you.)

Doing this kind of research may require more time and internet bandwidth than you may have once you are already on board. Even just looking at a map of the port you visit may help you find other interesting attractions nearby (sometimes even within walking distance of the places you intend to visit). Including these in your plans can enrich your experience.

6. Booking shows, specialty restaurants, and other activities

Le Bistro By Sharon Waugh

There is usually so much to do and experience on a cruise that it’s hard to fit everything in. Suppose you have cruised before and know what you really like, making bookings before your cruise for shows, specialty restaurants, and other activities offered on board may help you make the most of your vacation. People often wait until later in the cruise to book these things, and they may be fully booked. Planning will help you avoid disappointment.

7. Packing for theme nights

Glow Party, Norwegian Cruise Line. Photo by Sharon Waugh

Most cruises have a gala night, formal night, or captain’s dinner when guests are encouraged to dress up and are often denied access to certain dining rooms or venues if not dressed in formal attire. Depending on the cruise line, there may also be a number of other theme nights on board, such as a white night, a glow party, an 80’s party, etc. If you enjoy theme nights and want to get into the spirit of things, planning ahead and bringing the appropriate outfit is good.

8. Familiarizing oneself with onboard offerings

Aside from the internet packages, you may also want to familiarize yourself with drinks packages, specialty dining packages, spa packages, and entertainment offerings.

It may be helpful to figure out which dining options are complimentary and which come at an additional fee. Usually, gym use is included, but certain classes, services, and access to the sauna and steam rooms may come at an extra price. Again, the main production shows tend to be complimentary but sometimes require bookings, while other entertainment options, such as dinner theaters, cost extra. Access to the water slides is usually complementary, but activities like go-karting, laser tag, escape rooms, and other activities may not be.

If you’d like to plan your budget, you may want to look into this before you arrive on board.

9. Packing a carry on bag for the first day

By Sharon Waugh

It’s not uncommon for eager cruisers to want to board the ship as soon as boarding opens, but people often overlook that it can take a few hours for their luggage to be delivered to their rooms. If you intend to use the pools before the ship sets sail, it’s advisable to keep your bathing suit on you, along with sunscreen, medication, or anything you may want to access before much later in the day.

10. Bringing cash or the right currency for tips and small purchases

While credit cards have made international travel significantly more convenient, sometimes cash is still necessary. Although many countries (especially in the popular Caribbean cruise ports) will accept US dollars, it’s good to know what currencies are accepted in the destinations you are visiting and arrange some foreign currency for tips and other cash purchases. While you may be able to exchange money in port or on the ship, planning will help you get the best price and minimize your chances of getting scammed.

The new lineup of ships departing from PortMiami beginning October 2023 are Oceania Vista, Carnival Cruise Line Costa Venezia, and Scenic Eclipse II. In November 2023, Crystal Cruises Serenity, MSC Cruises Explora I, and Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian VIVA; in December 2023, Regent’s Seven Seas Grandeur will begin sailing from PortMiami. In January 2024, Royal Caribbean Group Icon of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world, will set sail from the port.

“We are grateful for the longstanding partnerships with all of our cruise partners and their commitment to providing a world-class experience to our passengers,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “These new ships, and their improved amenities and customer experience, are helping to keep Miami-Dade and PortMiami on the cutting edge of the cruise industry.”

PortMiami has successfully returned to regular cruise schedules and operations and has already made history by hosting its busiest cruise passenger days. On Sunday, April 9, 2023, the port welcomed a record-breaking 67,594 guests, surpassing the previous record of 58,984 guests on Sunday, February 12, 2023, representing a remarkable 12.7% increase.

The port is finalizing its Shore Power Program in partnership with Carnival Corporation, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Group, Virgin Voyages, and Florida Power and Light Company. The program will provide shore power capability to five cruise terminals, with the capacity to connect three ships simultaneously. Shore power will allow cruise ships to switch off their primary engines while docked, reducing air emissions significantly.

Seven Seas Grandeur Debuts New Art Collection

by Julie Bouchner October 25, 2023
written by Julie Bouchner

Regent Seven Seas Cruises has revealed a new multi-million-dollar art collection for Seven Seas Grandeur! The 1,600-piece art collection was sourced worldwide and will launch with the ship in November 2023!

“With each new ship, our team works tirelessly to identify and source the most impressive array of art pieces, building a collection that would be enviable by most modern-day museums, to ensure our guests’ time onboard is as enriching and thought-provoking as their time on land,” said Andrea DeMarco, President of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “It is extremely rare to enjoy such personal access to artwork of this caliber, and now guests will be able to connect deeper with the art and artists they’ve fallen in love with onboard our ships through our first ever virtual art tour. Regent’s art-loving guests will find Seven Seas Grandeur to be one of most engrossing galleries they have ever explored.”

MORE ABOUT THE ART EXPERIENCE

The cruise line will debut Art Experience, a digital art tour, which will be available through the new Regent Mobile App. The app will provide an immersive experience for guests to engage with the artwork and artists such as Rauschenberg, Matta, Sophie Elizabeth Thompson, and Eduardo Arranz-Bravo. The Regent Mobile App will also allow guests to access the daily program guide, view menus, explore shore excursions, and access the ship phone directory. Using expert technology, guests can scan select artworks and watch a film that connects them with the artist’s process and inspiration for the piece.

Regent’s Art Director, Sarah Hall Smith, spent almost two years preparing the art collection.

“Seven Seas Grandeur is inspired by the past, reimagined for the future and we’ve endeavored to mirror this with a fascinating onboard art collection,” said Sarah Hall Smith, Art Director for Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “The artwork featured on Seven Seas Grandeur includes work from some of the most notable artists of our time, from Pablo Picasso to Eduardo Arranz-Bravo, as well as unique installations and features such as the largest hand-woven tapestry on board a Regent ship, a hand-cast glass Bonsai Cherry Tree Sculpture and first Fabergé egg to live permanently at sea.”

art collection HIGHLIGHTS

Pablo Picasso (Lithograph and Linocut). “Toros y Toreros”, “Antes de picar al toro” and “Picador picando al toro, con matador al quite”

  • On deck 10, Prime 7 houses a collection of three exceptional Pablo Picasso paintings.
  • These artworks capture the essence of Spain’s fascinating culture, from the vibrant costumes and movements of matadors to the commanding force of bulls.

Fabergé: “Journey in Jewels”

  • You can find “Journey in Jewels” showcased in the Atrium on Deck 5.
  • This piece represents the essence of the Regent sailing experience, with a three-tiered base showered in azure and ocean-green hues reminiscent of the rolling tides.

Walter Goldfarb: “The Enchanted Tree”

  • Positioned next to the elevator wall in the grand Atrium on Deck 6, you will find “The Enchanted Tree,” a magnificent tapestry measuring almost 40 feet in height. This work of art is carefully woven with intricate details, and its placement allows for multiple perspectives to take in its splendor.

Savoy Studios: “Bonsai Cherry Tree“

  • A masterpiece brought to life by Savoy Studios is the Bonsai Cherry Tree sculpture, crafted from a blend of bronze and hand-cast glass. This exquisite piece creates an immersive entrance to Pacific Rim, the ship’s delectable pan-Asian restaurant on Deck 5.

Zheng Lu: “Water in Dripping – Waterfall”

  • At Serene Spa & Wellness on Deck 5, you’ll stumble upon a magnificent stainless-steel sculpture, “Water in Dripping – Waterfall,” designed and crafted by Zheng Lu.

Haunted Mansion Inspired Bar Debuts Aboard Disney Treasure in 2024

by Porthole Cruise and Travel October 24, 2023
written by Porthole Cruise and Travel

Just in time for spooky season, Disney Cruise Line reveals the Haunted Mansion Parlor, an all-new bar inspired by the iconic Haunted Mansion, a frequented Disney Parks attraction. In December 2024, foolish mortals will sip spirited craft cocktails inside this new venue aboard Disney Treasure.

Guests are invited to partake in the next chapter of the Haunted Mansion, which focuses on the story of a jovial captain who enters the ghostly realm after a disastrous dinner with his beloved fiancé. A custom musical arrangement inspired by the attraction’s original score and adapted by composer Shruti Kumar and Walt Disney Imagineering will set the stage for an anthology of illusions that sweep guests into the mysterious lore of the Haunted Mansion.

Iconic Disney characters and new seafaring arrivals will materialize in mysterious ways throughout the experience. The Haunted Mansion Parlor will blend humor into Disney’s spooky storytelling and follow the nostalgic art style of the original 1969 attraction.

The Haunted Mansion Parlor will reminisce a first-class drawing room from classic golden-age cruise liners. The lounge will include tributes to Disney Park attractions, from iconic purple wallpaper framed by wooden finishes to a mantel clock atop an inviting fireplace and a distinctive purple armchair tucked in the corner. Guests will also encounter a few new ghoulish faces in a portrait gallery depicting the Disney Treasure’s ghostly residents.

SPOOKY DRINKS FOR MIDNIGHT CHILLS

At the Haunted Mansion Parlor, guests will sample from a selection of ghostly cocktails that capture the spirit of the famed theme park attraction, The Haunted Mansion.

  • Sympathetic Libations: Blood orange and sour cherry flavors will harmonize in a shimmering zero-proof cocktail served in a specialty mug aptly titled,
  • Ghoulish Delight: This ube-flavored treat is one that everyone will enjoy. With hints of sweetness and nuttiness, the drink will incorporate decadent ube fudge, oat milk, and tapioca pearls in a purple concoction garnished with a gummy eyeball and ube glitter.

MYSTERIOUS MERCHANDISE

The new bar venue will introduce an exclusive array of haunted homewares and spooky souvenirs aboard Disney Treasure.

  • Haunted Mansion Parlor Music Box: This keepsake is inspired by the eerie music box that will play a melodic soundtrack inside the Haunted Mansion Parlor. As the rumors go, this mysterious box belonged to the captain’s bride-to-be and only opened in the presence of malevolent spirits.
  • Haunted Parlor Mantle Clock : Honoring the memorable grandfather clock seen in the original Disney Parks attraction, this decorative novelty will loom over the fireplace inside the venue, instigating mysterious happenings when it strikes the hour. As a part of the new merchandise collection, Disney Cruise Line guests will be able to bring home their very own mantle clock, just like the one from the parlor.
  • Haunted Mansion Parlor Sculpted Mug: Featuring the same octopus design from the bar’s entrance onboard Disney Treasure, the mug depicts a variety of sea life, including a hidden Mickey Mouse-shaped barnacle.
  • Haunted Mansion Parlor Mirror: This mirror allows guests to take home a ghoulish surprise.

“Shaping Horizons” by Explora I: Robin Hunter Blake’s Unique Perspective

by Judi Cuervo October 24, 2023
written by Judi Cuervo

When I think of astonishing cruise ship images, photographers like the late Harvey Lloyd and the masterful Michel Verdure immediately come to mind. Now, after sailing Explora Journeys’ Explora I, I’ll add Robin Hunter Blake to that esteemed duo.

Largely self-taught, Blake doesn’t possess a lengthy resume of cruise industry credentials, and, unlike Lloyd and Verdure, you won’t find him hanging out of a helicopter to capture aerial views of a ship heading into port. In fact, much of Blake’s photography focuses on fashion and nature, with mood and symbolism taking centerstage. His Explora I assignment was the first time the articulate, 24-year-old ex-boxer who was born in Scotland, raised in Barcelona, and now resides in London, had come anywhere near a cruise ship (aside from the fact that his mother and father—a dancer and a bartender, respectively—met on one).

THE ASSIGNMENT

Of his ambitious photographic assignment for Explora I, Blake says “It was luck, really.  My mum’s best friend married a man associated with Explora and he and I met for coffee in London.  I said ‘There must be a photographic project that I could be involved in’ and the gentleman was very gracious and set up an e-mail introduction which led to me going to Geneva to pitch the project.  Being unfamiliar with the cruise world, it was quite intimidating but very soon, after they reviewed samples of my work, I was given the go-ahead and three trips to the Fincantieri shipyard were scheduled over the following seven months.”

THE EXHIBIT

The construction site that was transformed into Explora I’s stunning Galleria d’Arte

I met up with Blake at Explora I’s Galleria d’Arte, a dedicated art gallery aboard the 63,900 grt, a 922-passenger ship that began sailing in August 2023, for an introduction to “Shaping Horizons,” the result of those three trips to Italy.

“This is where we’re standing right now,” said Blake as he directed my attention to a grainy black-and-white image of a maddening riot of panels, wires, and lights pierced by rays of sunlight, a lone construction worker surveying the scene. I could barely believe that that chaos ultimately became the ship’s stunning art gallery where we stood, its curved, textured walls and arced lighting hovering above gleaming parquet flooring.

“I never felt as alive as I did when I first arrived at Fincantieri!” says Blake.  “It was a symphony of steel, sparks and shouting!  I felt spoiled—there was just so much to play with!”

And play he did.

Surreal steel…a journey from light to dark

As we walk through Blake’s exhibit, I notice that in many cases, he has captured aspects of a ship’s structure and transformed them into treasures that might adorn space at a modern art museum or a wall in my living room:  A massive chain crawls eerily toward darkness from a field of light; a composition, almost cubist, brings Picasso to mind until, upon closer inspection, the viewer realizes it’s actually Explora I’s bow shot from below, the MSC logo ever so faintly visible.

Explora I’s bow…as art!

With “Shaping Horizons,” Robin Hunter Blake has brought a new vision to the documentation of a ship’s construction in much the same way that Explora Journeys has brought a new vision to luxury cruising.

And both, I must say, are enormously impressive.

THE EXPLORA I EXPERIENCE

Explora Journeys aims to deliver the experience of a high-end boutique hotel like the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons rather than that of a luxury ship.  Many members of Explora I’s crew, in fact, served not aboard ships but at lofty hotel establishments around the globe.  In the line’s reinvention of the luxury cruise category, Explora I has introduced spectacles that include a shopping arcade with Cartier, Rolex and Piaget outposts, a breathtaking two-story lobby bar, all-suite/all-balcony accommodations (with Frette linens and bathrobes in the walk-in closet, heated marble bathroom floors and a pricy Dyson hairdryer in each suite), and nine dining experiences, including Anthology, the first specialty restaurant at sea where a Michelin-star chef orchestrates the menu and technique that results in an exquisite tasting menu.

Fortunately, unlike a luxury hotel, the Explora Journeys experience is an all-inclusive one with drinks (including Moet & Chandon Imperial champagne, both white and rose), most specialty dining, wi-fi, and gratuities included in the fare.

Explora I and Robin Hunter Blake are a winning combination. And, with five more Explora Jouneys ships in the pipeline, I look forward to seeing a lot more from both.

Carnival Corporation has been listed as one of the World’s Best Employers, by Forbes, for the third consecutive year! The ranking recognizes companies that are committed to providing a positive workplace environment in a range of areas including work-life balance, career advancement opportunities, and employee diversity.

“Our highly talented global team of shipboard and shoreside employees are at the heart of everything we do and we want to make sure we are fostering an environment where people from all different backgrounds, experiences and walks of life can thrive,” said Bettina Deynes, global chief human resources officer for Carnival Corporation. “As we continue to prioritize a positive company culture and drive initiatives to grow each of our team members’ careers, we are honored to be recognized once again by Forbes for our efforts and commitment to be the employer of choice for hospitality, travel and leisure careers.”

Carnival Corporation was listed as one of the 700 top international employers across 20 different industries, underscoring the corporation’s commitment to its team and cultivating a work environment based on respect, trust, and openness.

The Ranking Criteria

The World’s Best Employer ranking was released by Forbes and Statista Inc after conducting a survey of over 170,000 employers from 55 countries. An anonymous survey was conducted among employees to gauge their likelihood of recommending their companies to their loved ones and rate them on various criteria, including brand reputation, economic influence, employee career growth, gender equality, and commitment to societal welfare.

In addition, survey participants also had the chance to evaluate businesses within their respective industries and nations. To determine the top-performing employers globally, Forbes assessed the recommendations while accounting for any geographical imbalances, resulting in a compilation of the top 700 firms recognized as the World’s Best Employers.

The ranking builds upon a legacy of awards that Carnival Corporation has received for its company-wide commitments to providing a positive work environment in various areas, including employee diversity, career advancement opportunities, and work-life balance.
