Norwegian Jewel Debuts in Houston
Houston, we’ve got a new ship. The recently updated Norwegian Jewel began sailing this week from the Bayport Cruise Terminal, where it will be homeported through April 2015.
Norwegian Cruise Line had not been in the market for seven years, so city officials naturally expressed their delight.
The 2,376-passenger ship has 16 dining options, 13 bars/lounges (including an O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill) and Nickelodeon programming for kids. Western Caribbean cruises from the “Space City” visit Cozumel, the new Banana Coast cruise port in Honduras, and Belize City.
- Dance pros Sharna Burgess and Artem Chigvintsev will perform aboard Holland America Line’s two remaining Dancing with the Stars theme cruises this year. Both are also appearing this season on the hit ABC show. The cruises are on the Westerdam, embarking Fort Lauderdale November 29 and December 6…
- Norwegian Cruise Line has a new president and COO, Drew Madsen, previously with Darden Restaurants (Olive Garden, et al). Kevin Sheehan, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, plans to concentrate on the bigger picture, including the company’s acquisition of Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises…
- The keel-laying ceremony has been held, meaning construction is officially underway in Monfalcone, Italy, on the 3,954-passenger Carnival Vista, Carnival Cruise Lines’ largest ship ever. The 133,500-ton “Fun Ship” is set to debut in spring 2016 as Carnival’s 25th vessel. Specifics on the ship’s innovations and where the ship will homeport will be coming early next year, the line said.
