Empress of the Seas to Return to Royal Caribbean
Cruise News – Oct. 27, 2015
Royal Caribbean International has confirmed that its former Empress of the Seas will be returning to its fleet in spring 2016.
The ship debuted for Royal Caribbean in 1990 as Nordic Empress, was renamed Empress of the Seas in 2004, and was then transferred to Spanish cruise line Pullmantur Cruises (another cruise brand under parent company, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.) in 2008 when it was renamed Empress.
Following an extensive refurbishment, the 1,877-guest ship will return to the name Empress of the Seas when it rejoins Royal Caribbean’s fleet next year. No other details, including itinerary information, have been announced at this time.
This news follows the July announcement that another smaller Royal Caribbean ship, Majesty of the Seas, which was set to transfer to Pullmantur, would instead stay with Royal Caribbean to sail short cruises to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral beginning in summer 2016.
