Norwegian Introduces Legal Weddings at Sea
Cruise News – Apr. 3, 2015
Couples can now legally tie the knot on select Norwegian Cruise Line ships. A new Wedding at Sea program begins this month on Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway, and will also be available on the new Norwegian Escape when that ship debuts in the fall.
The line had previously offered only ceremonial weddings at sea, requiring a legal ceremony on land. With the new at-sea option, the marriage license is issued by the Bahamas and the ship’s captain can perform the ceremony on board.
In addition to Wedding at Sea packages, Norwegian offers Harborside Ceremony packages, with the ceremony held while a ship is docked in port, as well as Destination Ceremony plans, where you get married in select ports of call – including same-sex ceremonies in places where the marriage is recognized by local law.
All packages include an officiant to perform the ceremony as well as an on-site wedding coordinator, private ceremony location, bouquet and matching boutonniere, bottle of sparkling wine, keepsake wedding certificate, and wedding cake.
