Celebrity Century Sold to Chinese Travel Company
In a move that may make fans nostalgic, Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Century is heading to China. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is selling the ship to Exquisite Marine Ltd., a holding company led by Ctrip.com International, a leading Chinese travel service provider.
The 1,814-passenger ship, built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, debuted in 1995, a modern beauty with “wow” features including a thalassotherapy pool, modern décor, and a cutting-edge art collection.
“Since its inaugural sailing, Celebrity Century has created many wonderful memories for hundreds of thousands of guests, and we expect this successful history to continue as she transitions to the Chinese cruise market,” said Royal Caribbean chairman and CEO Richard Fain.
The ship will leave the Celebrity Cruises fleet in April. The line rescheduled what was supposed to be a Dubai-to-Rome sailing into a Dubai-to-Singapore itinerary, embarking April 15, 2015.
