Porthole Cruise News Briefs – May 13, 2016

  • This week, Carnival Valor left dry dock with a host of new dining and drinking spaces, including Guy’s Burger Joint, Cherry on Top sweets, RedFrog Pub, SkyBox Sports Bar, RedFrog Rum Bar, BlueIguana Tequila Bar and Alchemy Bar. The renovation was part of the ship’s preparation for its run of 3- and 4-day Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral.
  • Celebrity Millennium emerged from dry dock as well, after a luxurious overhaul that gave the 2,138-passenger ship the same onboard venues and experiences that have proved popular on Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Infinity. The new Rooftop Terrace, suite enhancements, and conversion of the Olympic restaurant to Tuscan Grille will first be enjoyed by those sailing on Alaska cruises this summer.
  • Crystal River Cruises has passed a milestone, cutting the first steel on its four new river yachts at Lloyd Werft Shipyard in Germany. Crystal Debussy, Crystal Ravel, Crystal Mahler, and Crystal Bach will begin cruising the rivers of Europe in 2017, following the debut of Crystal Mozart on July 13, 2016.
  • The seas will get heavy again for the Monsters of Rock Cruise 2017, with 15-plus performances by rockers including Vince Neil “The Voice Of Mötley Crüe,” Cinderella’s Tom Keifer, Queensrÿche, Night Ranger, Saxon, Slaughter, and Stryper. The action takes place on Royal Caribbean International’s Brilliance of the Seas from February 2 to 7, 2017, in the Caribbean.
  • Cunard Line, responding to enthusiasm for its previously announced Marilyn Monroe-memorabilia sailing, will display additional personal items from the estate of Lee Strasberg, the father of method acting in America and Marilyn’s personal acting teacher. The legendary starlet developed a close personal relationship with Lee and his wife Paula, and she ultimately bequeathed all of her personal effects and clothing to Lee in her will.
