Porthole Cruise News Briefs – July 15, 2016

 

  • American Cruise Lines successfully launched its newest ship, American Constellation, which is being designed and built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland. The launching comes just weeks after the joining of the major two hull sections. Upon completion, the 170-passenger ship, which is scheduled to begin cruises in the spring of 2017, will bring American Cruise Lines’ fleet up to nine ships.

 

  • Seabourn and Molton Brownare introducing Seabourn Signature Scents, a creation of exotic fragrances designed exclusively for Seabourn guests. It marks the latest launch of the 14-year collaboration between the luxury cruise line and the London-based fragrance pioneers. Available aboard all Seabourn ships as complimentary bath amenities in guest suites, the Seabourn Signature Scents collection will also be available for sale in early 2017. Two exclusive Seabourn Signature Scents were blended from four unique ingredients sourced from the coastlines that Seabourn ships explore.

 

  • Holland America Line has celebrated a significant construction milestone as the first steel was cut for ms Nieuw Statendam, due for delivery in November 2018. The 99,500-ton ship — the 15th in the fleet — is the second Pinnacle-class ship for Holland America Line, joining sister ship ms Koningsdam, whichsailed its first cruise in April 2016.

 

  • Carnival Corporation announced the official opening of the Arison Maritime Center, its world-class facility dedicated to providing rigorous safety training for its bridge and engineering officers responsible for the navigation and operation of the world’s largest fleet of cruise ships. The new 75-million-euro facility in Almere, Netherlands, just outside Amsterdam, was celebrated with a ceremony honoring longtime board chairman Micky Arison and his father Ted, founder of the company.
