MSC Cruises Unveils Catalina Sugar Beach

MSC Cruises has revealed new details about Catalina Sugar Beach, its new beach destination on Catalina Island off the coast of La Romana, Dominican Republic.

The destination, developed in partnership with CTL Maritime and Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, is scheduled to open in November 2026.

Catalina Sugar Beach will welcome passengers sailing with MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, as well as visitors staying at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas. Beginning in November, the destination will be included on every MSC Opera itinerary.

Visitors will have access to white-sand beaches, water activities, shore excursions, and new island amenities. Excursions include catamaran cruises, snorkeling, trips to Saona Island, and visits to the Cave of Wonders and Altos de Chavón. Private cabanas and daybeds will also be available to rent.

Catalina Sugar Beach Highlights

  • Beach Pavilion: Open-air buffet serving international dishes and local specialties.
  • Bars: Two bars, including an open-air palapa bar with ocean views.
  • Water Sports Center: Equipment rentals for exploring the surrounding waters.
  • Private Cabanas and Daybeds: Rentals available throughout the beach.
  • Upgraded Facilities: New changing rooms, showers, and restrooms.
  • Nature Trail: A walking path with scenic overlooks and educational signage about the island’s native trees.

MSC Cruises will begin year-round Southern Caribbean sailings from La Romana in November 2026. MSC Opera will operate weekly seven-night itineraries, with the option to combine two sailings into a 14-night cruise.
