Construction begins on new Holland America Line ship

No name yet, but construction on the first Holland America Line ship since 2010’s Nieuw Amsterdam is underway at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard in Italy — the first 680-ton block lowered by crane into the building dock during a keel-laying ceremony.

The 2,650-passenger, 99,500-ton ship will debut February 2016 as the line’s largest ship to date.

“The keel-laying of our new Pinnacle-class vesselheightens the anticipation for delivery because very soon we’ll see the ship begin to take shape,” said Stein Kruse, president and CEO of Holland America Line.

Among new features, expect culinary and entertainment innovation. At work on the interiors are noted designers Adam Tihany and Bjørn Storbraaten.
