American Cruise Lines launches second ship on Mississippi

May 1, 2015

American Cruise Lines christened its second ship on the Mississippi, the 150-passenger paddlewheeler American Eagle, with Cheryl Landrieu, wife of New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, serving as godmother.

American Eagle has staterooms ranging from 300 to 600 square feet, most with sliding-glass doors leading to balconies.

Décor reflects classic late-1800s riverboats, but don’t let that fool you: Officials say American Eagle is the “most modern and environmentally friendly ship on the Mississippi.”

Like sister ship Queen of the Mississippi, the new ship will be based in New Orleans. American Eagle will operate primarily on the Lower Mississippi between New Orleans and Memphis.
