Wine and your Health

Grape Destinations: Wine and Your Health

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but so too can a glass of Argentinian Pinot Noir, bold and fruity to the nose and complex on the tongue. Wine and your health may not seem like two things which go together, but there are plenty of benefits to enjoying a glass of the right wine every now and then.

Does Red Wine have Nutrients?

After a long day at the office or sitting back in a deck chair on board a cruise ship, a glass of wine does more for your health and wellness than most people think. First and foremost, red wines like Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and more contain antioxidants like resveratrol which have proven benefits for the heart. People can get antioxidants from a number of different foods like berries and nuts, but red wine is by far the most entertaining way to get your much-needed nutrients.

How does adding nutrients like antioxidants translate to healthier minds and bodies? Studies show that wine can aid in a number of areas like heart health, immune system defense, increased bone density, lower cholesterol and even a reduced risk for diabetes.  Some studies have even shown a link between men who drink wine fairly regularly and a reduced risk of prostate cancer.

Wine and Stress Relief

The most obvious health factor wine helps with, however, is mental. We all have things in our lives which stress us out or give us anxiety. From work to school to family and friends, it can sometimes seem like life is out to get us. There’s plenty of evidence that when it comes time to relax, a glass of wine can be a wildly helpful aid in that regard.

Just remember, enjoying wine and reaping its health benefits is a matter of moderation. A glass of wine offers numerous health benefits, however, the negatives of drinking the whole bottle outweigh those healthy aspects. When kept in moderation, wine can be a great addition to anyone’s day!
