Newest Holland Ship Gets a Name.

Cruise News – Sept. 19, 2014

Holland America Line’s new 2,650-passenger ship, currently under construction in Italy and set for debut in 2016, will be called Koningsdam. The Pinnacle-class ship will be the cruise line’s largest ever built.

While the 141-year-old cruise line has a habit of passing down names as older ships retire and new ships are built, Koningsdam is a brand-new moniker – koning means “king” in Dutch (and all Holland America ships have dam at the end).

The name pays homage to the company’s deep roots in the Netherlands and honors King Willem-Alexander, officials said.
