So in each issue, we’re bringing you answers to your most frequently asked questions in order to make your next trip even smoother.

What are your tips for getting through airport security as smooth as possible?
You’d think by now that every traveler would know the drill. For starters, take your shoes, belts, and jackets off before going through security. And if you haven’t already, learn the 3-1-1 rule, which states that you are only allowed to bring a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams, and pastes through the checkpoint. These are limited to 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item.

Next, be sure to pull your laptop/coins/keys/phones/computers out of your bags and have your ID out and ready to go. And if you know that a certain accessory, such as a belt, usually sets off the detectors, take it off and place it with your shoes on the conveyor belt. Another very important tip: Wait until your belongings go fully into the machine before going through the detectors. Otherwise, the person behind you can easily steal your valuables.

If you travel more than once a year, I highly recommend signing up for TSA PreCheck. It’s the U.S. government’s expedited security screening program that allows low-risk passengers to go through (usually) a separate security line that is (usually) much shorter since you don’t have….
