Mexican Riviera Aqua Adventures

Aqua Adventures

Hit the water for some of the Mexican Riviera’s best at-sea experiences.

By Christy Woodrow

Born and raised in California, I’ve always considered Mexico to be my second home. I still visit at least once a year, attempting to explore a new area of the country each time. Inevitably there are a few locations so enjoyable that they lure me back for multiple visits. Among them: Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas.

Cruisers sailing Mexican Riviera itineraries will most likely call in Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas, as well as ports such as Mazatlan, Acapulco, Ixtapa, and Ensenada, and will discover that these sun-drenched ports are perfect playgrounds for water lovers and adrenalin junkies. With so many shore excursion options to choose from, here’s a taste of my own experiences to help you decide which aquatic adventure is best for you.

Puerto Vallarta
Located in the western part of the state of Jalisco, Puerto Vallarta consists of long stretches of beach and an underwater world just begging to be explored. Even as one of the most-visited cities in Mexico, it remains full of charm, friendly locals, and limitless aquatic adventures.

Las Caletas Private Beach Getaway
If you prefer quiet beaches but can’t decide whether to kayak or snorkel, don’t miss the Las Caletas Private Beach Getaway excursion. Arrive in Las Caletas beach by catamaran, savor an island buffet lunch, and spend the rest of the afternoon kayaking and snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters. Las Caletas is only accessible by boat, so it truly is a hidden paradise. This beach is perfect for viewing the sights from above the water or by getting up-close and personal with the sea life while donning a pair of fins and a mask.

Jungle Zip Line and Rappelling
The Jungle Zip Line and Rappelling excursion offers two amazing experiences in one. Your tour will most likely begin with a thrilling zodiac speedboat ride to the secluded Boca de Tomatlan beach, followed by a 4WD ride through the jungle. After a quick safety briefing, take a ride up the mountain on a mule to begin your zip-lining adventure, enjoying the view of the jungle from high above. To cool off, finish with a breathtaking, heart-pounding adventure rappelling through waterfalls into the natural pools below.

Flyboarding
Thanks to new water sports technology, you can now fly high above the ocean, propelled on jets of water. Flyboarding is the newest extreme water sport, and it gives adrenaline seekers the chance to learn fun mid-air ….
