Queen Elizabeth II

Which Iconic British Oceanliner has a New Home in Dubai?

There are countless luxury hotels in Dubai for a weary traveler to rest and recuperate, but it’s one of the city’s newest hotels which has the richest history. The Queen Elizabeth II, a once stunning ocean liner operated by Cunard, is now a stunning hotel permanently docked at the Mina Rashid marina in Dubai. After millions in renovations retrofitting the famous cruise ship for modern hotel guests, the ship is in the midst of its soft opening before the grand opening in October of 2018.

Perhaps the most famous vessel owned and operated by Cunard, the Queen Elizabeth II spent more than 50 years at sea before finally ending an illustrious career as a floating hotel in the Persian Gulf city of Dubai. Guests enjoy spectacular views of the Persian Gulf or the Dubai skyline while in the staterooms or dining at one of the 13 venues on board. Queen Elizabeth II is the first floating hotel in the region and her rich history is what’s attracting visitors from all over the world.

The ocean liner was renovated extensively, but there was an effort to maintain its classic appeal and British influence. The ship has also become a floating museum thanks to the QE2 Heritage Exhibition, a collection of the ship’s history and transformation from the day she launched in 1967 all the way to now. From her time carrying happy guests to her time shuttling troops during the Falklands War, the ship is truly a living part of British history. The library on board even has a few books which were present on the ship’s very first voyages.

The Queen Elizabeth II’s new location in Dubai is in close proximity to the city’s other popular attractions like the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Dubai International Financial Centre and the Dubai World Trade Centre. Dubai is as unique a place as you’ll find with incredible history and culture coupled with fabulous resorts and beach getaways for a great vacation.
