Brazil has a pleasant climate, attractive beaches, colonial architecture, an easy-going, music-fueled way of life, flavorsome food, and, let’s not forget, the caipirinha; Brazil’s ubiquitous, powerful cocktail made of cachaça, a sugarcane liquor shaken with lemon, sugar, and ice. No wonder vacationers love this country.

If your future cruise calls on this sizzling South American country, here are five Brazilian experiences worth checking off your list.

1. Watch a Soccer Game in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is Brazil’s most famous city, praised for its Copacabana Beach, Sugar Loaf Mountain, and the statue of Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer). It is also the perfect place to get a feel for some classic Brazilian culture, such as Carnaval, or watching a soccer game (in Portuguese called futebol). Locals would be correct to say that you can’t leave Rio without having watched a futebol game. Games are often a colorful family affair with plenty of cheering for their teams and dancing to samba drums in the aisles, making it a fun and exciting outing. (Ask around for a low-risk game.)

Rio de Janeiro is also home to the Maracaña Stadium, once the largest stadium in the world and known for some famous players who scored here, such as Pelé. In fact, the stadium will be host to the final in this year’s FIFA World Cup.

2. Take in the View of South America’s Largest Metropolis, São Paulo

Cruise ship passengers disembarking in Santos can take a one-hour drive to the non-coastal city of São Paulo. With 20 million inhabitants, this is South America’s most developed and multicultural city, known for its nightlife, international food, and its Modern Art Museum….
